Hey Lanky Lefty! Will this work okay with the Dreamwear Full Face mask? I need a strap to keep my mouth closed. I’ve been using an old respironics chin strap that works okay with my Amara View(which I hate and want to get away from it as it is incredibly painful). However, when I use it with my new Dreamwear the strap along the top of my head gets in the way of the tubing. Any suggestions?

I recently went back to using The Knightsbridge chinstrap. I think it's great. I've been trying to stop those frustrating mouth leaks for years. If I could get by without wearing this cap plus 2 large strap headgear, I would. But this chinstrap is the ONLY way that I succeed in comfortably and reliably preventing mouth leaks through the night. It makes a huge difference in my sleep. I tape (Cover Roll Stretch, great) which is essential, and I use nasal masks that rarely leak (Bleep, Resmed N20). I've tried other chinstraps, various mouthguards, various taping setups, full face masks, neck braces, and other things suggested as possible solutions by LL27... The leaks don't fully stop for me unless I use THIS chinstrap (and CR stretch tape). As I said before (below), I think it is essential to get the right fit. If you get one that is sized too large, it will slip off.. (Unsolicited comment here, no proprietary interest, just glad this actually stops my mouth leaks)

The massive patch of Velcro makes it hard to put on your headgear and makes it pill really quickly. I cut out a matching patch of Velcro to keep everything from sticking because it felt uncomfortable with the headgear underneath the cap. Also caveat is that it’s SUPER loud when you rip off the straps. I put my other hand over my ear to reduce the noise whenever I have to adjust it. I find that I can leave the straps as is and slide the cap on/off and just take them off to wash it. I lastly wish the straps were a little narrower. I get that the extra width gives more surface area to make it more comfortable but I have a pretty small head and I feel like it’s kind of choking me unless I slide the strap to the tip of my chin. Overall I’d still recommend it but some extra tips for those interested.
@Freecpapadvice3 жыл бұрын
About the straps being too wide: couldn't you fold the strap in half so that it is half as wide? Then it stays under the jaw where it would be most effective.
@eddiec5893 жыл бұрын
@@Freecpapadvice I’ve had it about 2 months now and using it full width at the tip of my chin has been working. It created a hot spot on my chin bone making it sore at first, but with some breaks in-between I’m fully used to it now without the pain (kind of like everything else with cpap, it took some patience, experimenting, and time). I’m glad this works for me now but I’m still on the hunt for a good cervical collar style alternative. The snore eliminator wasn’t deep enough so I may have to macguyver something. Thanks for the great content.

I bought this chinstrap and followed your instructions carefully. My wife and I measured head size several times and I was right in the middle of the large size but no matter how tight I adjust the cap it slides forward during sleep. I stay on my back but once the cap moves forward the chinstrap loosens and no longer works. I really wanted this to work because of a combination of sleep apnea and snoring, lucky me, but it doesn't look like it is going to work for me. Maybe if I put the other type of chinstrap on top of this one on top of the CPAP. What a sight. Oh well, someday they will build a better mouse trap that will work for me. lol
@MikeBroderick334 ай бұрын
I've got some tips that might help you. If you fold up a bit of the material where the back strap of the Knightsbridge starts, you can make it tighter. I also pull the Knightsbridge down really hard at the back towards my neck, which pulls it higher up my forehead. I then start by putting on my Resmed Quattro Air full face mask on first and get it pretty tight. I then put the Knightsbridge on over the top of it. I put the blue strap on very tight with the white one over the top of it less tight. I then slide both straps forward to the front of the underside of my chin which makes it more comfortable. Lastly, I release the two bottom straps of my CPAP mask and pull them over the outside of the Knightsbridge straps which makes it much more comfortable. Since I've been doing this my sleep has greatly improved, my AHI's have averaged between 0.6 and 2.4 an hour, and my dry mouth has improved. I've been using this in combination with some pain medication, the humidifier, and a Resmed Climateline Tube, and it all works well together. I feel like I've got the chinstrap figured out. I actually keep the head part of the chinstrap fairly loose, but having the blue strap tight, the white strap a bit less tight, and the bottom mask straps over the top of them keeps it all in place with no sliding around. I hope it works for you.

This was something I worried about when watching, too. Even though it's mesh, I sleep REALLY hot and wake up all sweaty even when keeping the house at 68. I think I would need something with a lot less coverage, though I understand why that makes things more difficult in terms of strap positioning. :\ On a mostly-unrelated note, I lived in northern Michigan for a few years! I really loved being so close to Lake Michigan (which imo is one of the most gorgeous bodies of water ever), but I couldn't handle the gray skies from November to April every year (not to mention all the freaking snow, lol)!

Just make sure to attach the straps near the front of the Velcro patch. That makes the force most vertical. Attach the nonelastic blue band so it is snug. The elastic white band need only provide an additional gentle upwards force.
@sandyjarvis44712 жыл бұрын
I just bought this and used it two nights so far. I like it much better than all the other chinstraps I've wasted money on! I can definitely tell the difference in how it doesn't pull the jaw back at an angle. My only problem with this cap is that the double straps seem unnecessary to me. I realize they have separate purposes (blue strap is non-elastic and prevents jaw from lowering; and white strap is elastic and provides gentle upwards force). For me it seems the blue strap provides enough upwards force (if not, adjust it tighter). Plus, the blue strap has a softer feel on the delicate neck skin. The white elastic has a coarser feel and is uncomfortable for me (you guys might not notice this so much). This is just my own personal (and OCD) observation after just two nights. I'm seriously thinking of cutting off the white elastic strap, but at the cost of this item, I don't want to ruin it! For tonight's experiment, I have the white strap going up/over the cap and secured to the velcro pad (not under the chin). If the blue strap keeps my mouth closed all night without flapping my lips or giving me a beef jerky tongue, this will be a HUGE WIN for me!! Thanks for doing this video, Jason. You are my Favorite Papper-Person!!! 🤩😛😘

Yo papper master. I got the head strap but it was too hot for me and didn’t seem to fit me, the wife def thought she was sleeping with an astronaut (that’s a bonus I guess). Also I noticed the velcro rips off right next to my ear canal which gets real loud if I wasn’t careful. Back to mouth taping and nasal mask. Got any solutions for drooling with mouth tape? I’ve tried putting thin amounts of cotton from a cotton ball across my lips to hold in the moisture which does seem to help but it’s also a bit inconsistent.
@user-fl5lr1nm5v2 жыл бұрын
The surgical tape tends to loosen once it gets wet but can also cause irritation of the lips. So, here are some solutions you can try. 1. Wear a surgical mask (or bandana wrap or home made cloth mask) but wear it so it only covers your mouth.The material will catch the saliva and absorb it or 2. Get a thick tissue or bit of paper towel and put it between your lips. Unfortunately if you drool a lot the tissue gets saturated and disintegrates but it depends on how much you drool or 3. A combination of the above, ie a surgical mask/bandana with a tissue on the inside of it covering your mouth. I tried the surgical tape initially and found while it worked, some nights it would get saturated with drool and peel off whilst on other nights it would irritate my lips and I’d have chafed lips in the morning (I’m guessing due to a combination of saliva and tape ‘glue’). So then I tried just using a surgical mask just over my mouth (snug fit) and it seems to work by tricking the brain into nose breathing because mouth breathing is now harder thanks to the mask. Good luck.

I used to wake up with the bottom of the mask in my mouth -- no more! However, this head gear is a bit of an ordeal. I've come a long way since the first time I tried a cpap mask and got claustrophobic, but a couple of times I have been awake at night and had a very strong urge to get this thing off my head! My only reservations are both the unbalanced texture point you made and more importantly how comfortable it's going to be dressed for bed like a Bengali Vaishnava in winter when I sleep in steamy Kolkata. I bought This from Affinity HM and tried this product for two days and threw it away because it's very uncomfortable and restrictive when it came to allowing me ease of movement of my neck and head and even though I bought the premium which is supposed to be cooler it was not it was 70 degrees in my home both days and I was perspiring in it and also caused me to have a headache and also the blue non stretch strap is narrower than the elastic strap so the elastic strap rubs your neck causing irritation and a lot of itching. These are all huge flaws in this product and it made it impossible for me to use anymore. That said I have bought on Amazon, a few V-type chin straps that I know can me maneuvered to work 100 percent and are much more comfortable and they are a fraction of what this product costs. It is very easy to move the top forward and the bottom chin part back to expose the chin so the strap doesn't push your jaw back. This is just one of the better V-type chin straps sold there are a few more you just need to search for them and look at the pictures how they rest on your face you will see some rest further towards the forehead on the top than others those are the ones that will work 100 percent and will last just as long. Here is a link to just one of the better V-type chin straps sold there. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075ZMW1MF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1and will last just as long here is a link to just one of the better V-type chin straps sold there.

@ TheLankyLefty27. Do you place the Knightsbridge Chin Strap on first or the mask first and then the chinstrap?

I put the chinstrap on first. That way the mask can come off easier.

I was listening to you very intently, but as time went on I realized I was watching a guy with a weird full headcap, and somehow it kept getting funnier. Serious question, though: I know you said no for people with nasal pillows, but what if you're taping your mouth? The other night, the air leak into my mouth wound up incorporating itself into my dream. I was getting very upset in said dream that I couldn't make air stop burbling under my tongue. 😂

There might be an application where the straps coming down on the cheeks prevents air from accumulating in your mouth. As I prepped for recording I said "F it.....I'm keeping this baby on for the duration of the video".

I'm going to recommend the manufacturer creates a version of this with an opening for a ponytail or bun. No way in hell I'm wearing this over my whole head in addition to having my thick, long hair tucked against my neck or held into it like a hairnet or swim cap. Thanks for the review!

Now I can be part of the cirque soleil one night and a fighter pilot the next. Sweet baby popcorn jesus I'm going to have to fight off the women. I ordered the black one with a little breath hole and zipper. lol. Hey Jason, be sure to leave this head mask by your bedroom camera porn studio during the home tours. lol For us Canadians we save $5.70 using the LANKY15 coupon code. Can't wait to try it out.

These are now well over $50. Shameful!

I can understand your feeling on the price. They're really well made and thought out. Other chinstraps are made of "wetsuit" material and pull your jaw back at a 45 degree angle. Hard on the temporal mandibular joint and also pulls the jaw back into the airway....sometimes making jaw drop worse. KB chinstrap pulls straight up. Other chinstraps $20-30. I think it's a fair price considering they're all hand made. Just my two cents: $49.98 left. 😉

This is awful and horribly uncomfortable these have to be fake reviews and this company will not respond or give any refunds

The company currently as no stock because civil unrest in Guatemala has stopped their production. For the price these could be US made - the PapCap is US made and costs less!
