I bought my first cigars today for a reunion with my Army buddies. Diesel whiskey row, Churchill, a medium/full body flavor profile, I went in knowing my palette and knowing I prefer stronger flavors, but I didn't want to go all in on a straight full body. We're going to be sipping some mid shelf bourbon and reminiscing on the dumb shit we did in the Army together, and playing catch up learning what we're up to now.

Evan as a seasoned smoker I prefer the Robusto size cigars. I get a great amount of time to relax and enjoy what I am smoking. When I am short on time I grab a LFD DL452 ( Not for starter smokers). When I have hours to kill ...I can grab a LFD DIgger with 8 inches of tobacco bliss. ( Also not for starter smokers) . Hey, Mazz talks about Ashton cigars....I talk about LFD. P.S. Guys, great information that all new smokers need to know.

For newbies I'd even cut this selection to robusto and corona, excluding toro, not even due to the smoking time, budget etc., but due to the amount of nicotine your body is capable to process without getting sick... With that said corona and robusto are just perfect to avoid possible unpleasant experience and get the best of your cigar 🙌 Spot on video as usually, guys 👌

Me and wife last tuesday went to Gatlinburg and ate at the greenbrier for r anniversary. I noticed a cigar list on the spirts menu. We have never part taken in cigars or smoking. So we gave it a shot. Perodomo, champagne 10th anniversary was recommended by the women that handles the cigar and bar area.. she cut it for us. And said dont inhale and take your time and relax and sit out by the fire pit. We hate smoking and being around it... it was a great experience and enjoyable.. we will do it again on special occasions for sure. And i might partake even more. I thought it was gonna be like cigarettes smoke. Im happy we decided to try new things. Also she poured us both a woodford. Mine with a big rd ice ball. It was refreshing. Cant wait to try another kind and flavors.

Have to say as a former cigarette smoker, my first cigars did (and some still do) feel massive in the hand. It's definitely intimidating. I'm not sure about dissuading new smokers from perfecto. I've only been doing this for a month or so, and two of my favorites are perfectos: Fuente Hemingway and Olive G Maduro. Sure, I'm not getting the full experience of a more experienced tobacconist, but they are damn fine cigars. It was interesting and fun to learn. The Internet is FULL of useless info (like which end to light 😂😂).

So today I had my first real cigar (Have had cigarillos before). Its a quorum short robusto, about $6 us considering cigars are far more expensive here in South Africa. Things couldn't have gone more wrong. I didn't have a cigar cutter, why would I for a first time smoker, they cost a fortune here. The kitchen scissors and knife demolished the head of the cigar. I then got a partially good cut with a box knife/carpet knife. Next, the brand new butane jet lighter I bought gave in before the cigar was properly lit, so I ended up with a soft flame gas lighter. Heres the thing. Despite all this, every third or fourth puff had such a pleasant aroma/taste, and as such I absolutely can't wait to retry on cigar number 2 in a few weeks.

Always start small. You must build a tolerance for nicotine. If you don't have a tolerance for nicotine, that will be something you build up with use. Ingesting certain amounts of nicotine for you the first time, you won't feel very well, and the opposite of relaxed; probably won't want to pick up another stick again. Get a petite corona from a quality known brand and work your way to others. if you don't like it, you won't have guilt tossing it. On related note, today's smoke, Opus X Petite Lancero with iced coffee (my go to drink with cigars), also picked up some weekend goods; Plasencia Cosecha 151, Plasencia Reserva Original and a Rocky Patel Edge A10. So far have smoke 3 of my Oliva sampler, The Connecticut Churchill, Serie O and G. The Connecticut was surprisingly delicious.
@jonathanwyse52715 ай бұрын
When it comes to trying something new (and I'm still in a places where just about everything is new), robusto or corona are the sizes I prefer. Churchill are only for those I know and like when I have the time. I'm grateful that the cigar of the month club comes in mostly robusto size. If I could presume upon Mazz and Facc for a future video would be a deeper dive on cutting especially with shaped cigars.

I'm not entirely sure why aficionados in the States don't really dig into smaller ring gauges, never see any petit coronas, half coronas, panetelas, lonsdales or similar sizes coming from US. Anything below 46 is a no go but... they are absolute flavour bombs!
@marcusdc25 ай бұрын
Well i have to say you are right, but I personally like some of the smaller ring gauges too. I'm not a huge fan of 6x60 ring gauge. My assumption is that the larger ring gauges and slightly longer sticks (6x52 etc) smoke longer and still have a lot of flavor. So maybe....just maybe, its because most of us can sit and enjoy that stick for an hour+ as opposed to 30 to 45 minutes. But you do bring up a great point. in fact one lounge in my area seems to only carry 6x60 sticks. Then i looked at who hung out there and it was a bunch of Overly wanna be macho guys. The type who thing a lancero is only for women. But hey, to each their own.

If somebody were to come to me and ask what I would recommend after smoking cigars for about eight months, I would suggest a 52 or less ring engage in a 5 inch like you said. If they wanted to know what blend I would start with something like Esposa or a lot 23 with a Connecticut shade rapper. If they wanted to spend a little more money, I might recommend a Connecticut Habano from Perdomo. Very creamy very rich and pears so well with a cup of black coffee. That is if you’re going to..everybody’s pallet is different but when I first started out, I tried the darkest I could get and paid the price.

my general take on cigar sizes has always been time it takes to smoke. Not many beginners have the luxury to have sit-down time just to smoke (they maybe are simply smoking on work breaks, occasional golf outings, vacation, etc.) where they can pick and choose which sizes emits their favorite palettes irrespective of time. It wasn't until I started smoking more regularly where size really became a factor for flavor.

Lately though I've been picking up a belicoso or torpedo formats on blends I'm familiar with. For me time and location is an issue. The nearest cigar lounge is an hour plus. Reluctantly my wife has been cool with me enjoying a cigar or 2 in the house. If provided It after 10pm. So for now the carona formats give me the perfect time frame.

Great video guys, I appreciate the content always. When your video drops I watch. A suggestion though, for those who may be new like me a explanation of ring sizes and gauges would have been nice. You are talking about these different sizes and ring gauges but to in beginner these names are foreign and don't know where they land as far as cigar sizes are concerned. Keep up the great work, love the video with Facc.
@holtscigars5 ай бұрын
Thank you! We will cover it in a future video but until then for reference, cigar sizes have two numbers like 6x52 for example. The first number is the length of the cigar in inches. The second number is the ring gauge out of 64ths of an inch. So a 64 ring gauge would be one inch in diameter.
