With proliferation of pouches, I’ve also been migrating to transparent, semi transparent, pouches (including mesh… or ziploc :) ). There are also pencil pouches that serve well.

I had a hard time narrowing down this list, there are so many great pouches! And like you said, pencil or mesh pouches work great, it doesn't necessarily need to be a "toiletry pouch" to work for toiletries.

I love Tom Bihn for domestic trips, but for personal item only or Europe trips the trusty ziplock it is. I always have an extra or two (qt and gal) in my bag as they are useful for lots of travel emergencies.

These are very useful on an airport. I have the Osprey. I don't use liquid deo, soap and shampoo. Nite ize is very good but very expensive, for a bag... Instead I would put the things in a small, clear plastic bag before putting bottles of liquid in these bags. The best quality bag Nite Ize if u look at the leaking test. The zipper however I heard becomes more hard to use after using it for a while. ps. For the test to be more truthful as if u travel, u should instead of pouring water on them fill them from inside and see how it lasts until it starts leaking.

Good point, the liquid will come from the inside. These bags aren't really designed to be waterproof per se, except maybe the Nite-Ize, which I imagine would perform the best in this test.

Eagle Creek makes some pouches that are simi-clear but are durable and work well for me. The Pack-It line is something worth comparing in this category.

I'm not sure they make those any more. I have several Eagle Creek toiletry bags, but not a clear one. I'll be doing another video soon that will comare just ultralight toiletry bags, the Isolate Quick Trip will definitely be in there

@@OneBagTravels I have two sets of white silnylon (I think) pouches from Eagle Creek that I used to use as my 3-1-1 bag. Even though they're not transparent, I have never had any issues with TSA accepting them (domestically) because they are the right size. When you think about it, the liquids go through the scanner, so it shouldn't really matter if the bag is transparent or not. I've never tried to used them internationally so I don't know if they'd be accepted there. I did eventually buy an inexpensive but serviceable "TSA approved" container from Amazon for about $10. It does the trick.

@@Jax3cats I seem to remember the clear bag being a thing. But I checked the TSA website and it doesn't say anything about needing a clear bag. However many blogs still repeat that you need a clear bag. And yes, it goes through the x-ray so why would it need to be clear? I don't use a clear bag and I've never had any issue.

Thanks for your great video's. You keep it real and practical. You include options for those who can't afford/ can't access the newest and most expensive gear. Thanks for the recommendations for women's travel gear too. I would love to see reviews on Decathlon bags. These are affordable options and are actually available in my country. Can't wait for the Quechua NH 500 Escape 23l backpack to become available here. With shipping and import costs the price for a bag is 3 times more than the listed price.

i just love your videos and reviews. would it be possible to do a video for the items you carry for toiletries and also one for women? i understand this might not be an option and every person is different but just a basic list and going into detail about the item would make my day! i seriously binge watch your videos. you make me think about every purchase i make and you help me decide on what best suits me. i love how in depth you go into everything and thank you for all of your efforts. i also love that you mention GRAMS! :)

That's a great idea, I realized I don't actually have a video on minimalist toiletries. It's hard because toiletries are so personalized, especially shampoo, soaps etc., but I suppose the basic idea is the same. I could do a much better job talking about what I use, or men's toiletries in general. I'm not sure I would be much help with toiletries for women though.
@emmapeebles2784
@emmapeebles2784 2 жыл бұрын
@@OneBagTravels that would be awesome! Even the small containers you use, to the thought process of "I can pick the product up at my destination". I'm searching far and wide for ideas for minimal travel toiletries for women so hopefully there is something great out there soon. I love the idea of living out of your bag for amount of time you are away. That way you can see how much of a product you actually use and if you would need to pack more or less. That would be a neat video... or maybe I'm just a bit strange! Haha. 😅👋
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 2 жыл бұрын
@@emmapeebles2784 No you're right, that would be a neat video. Mostly what I use is silicone bottle for shampoo, matador flatpak case for soap bar, GoTubbs for thicker pastes, and Stax or Nalgene bottle for anything else small that might leak. If a store has a sample/travel section, that can also be a good place to pick up products and mini bottles. Also you can refill a travel toothpaste from a larger bottle ;) A lot of people like shampoo bars, I usually go with a castille soap bar that's more of a multi-purpose soap, but there are lots of options out there with more specific uses, conditioners etc. You may find the Reddit r/HerOneBag page useful, it's an offshoot of r/OneBag, but focuses more on women-specific travel. Lots of good recommendations in there for travel toiletries, clothes, etc.

This might be a dumb question but do you have to use a clear bag for your toiletries when going thriugh the airport? Im thinking not since you also review toiletry bags that arent clear
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 8 ай бұрын
It depends on where you're going. The TSA in the US doesn't require the bag be clear, I generally just put all my toiletries in the same bag and it's fine as long as it's small enough. Europe requires for your liquids to be in a clear separate bag and are more strict on enforcement. The easiest way to meet these different requirements is to just use a clear bag. Alternatively if you don't have a clear bag, bring a 1 quart zip lock and transfer your liquids when going through security.

I am going to buy the Nite Ize 3-1-1. However, I think European / Uk travel standards are it needs to be fully transparent. So think could cause me an issue!
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 2 жыл бұрын
I just see they say "transparent." Seems like 3-1-1 pouch would work. You'd have to have a pretty uptight agent to have a problem with that. Plus I visited 4 countries in Europe last year with no clear bag at all and they never said anything 🤷‍♂️

Why is the Tom Bihn hanger inside the bag so it has stay open while hanging? It otherwise seems like an excellent choice, but that might drive us crazy! Thanks for your video - very informative!

Good question. Not sure but it keeps the hook in place so it's not getting caught on things being outside the bag. But yes it means it has to stay open while the bag is hanging.

Depends on where you are on how strict they are. In the US they don't care much about your toiletries being in a clear bag, but in Europe they can be much more strict. I would recommend putting all your liquids separately in a clear pouch, that way you'll be good everywhere.

Great review! Been looking at replacing my old no-name bag for a while now, and the sea to summit hanging one is my favorite so far. What’s the deal with a clear pouch? Is it just to make it easier for if/when they wanna check it at the airport while going through security?
@IntriguedLioness
@IntriguedLioness 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, TSA requires liquids replaced in a separate clear pouch now and not mixed in with your toiletries. The TSA website has a great breakdown of what can be brought and at what limit. It is up to date even to the point where hand sanitizer is not included in your 3-1-1 limit!

That's a great point that I didn't really go into in this post. LG is right, TSA requires liquids be placed in a separate 3-1-1 pouch (3.4 oz or 100ml containers, in one quart sized container). They don't have a requirement that the pouch be clear, but it can help get your through security quicker. TSA used to be very strict on this rule, and they still are on the 3.4 oz size limit. However from my experience they don't seem to be as strict lately with requiring all liquids/gels etc. be in a separate bag, which I haven't really done for years. I don't tend to travel with a lot of liquids to begin with though, so this probablly helps.

@@OneBagTravels one of my last flights before the pandemic landed me in TSA line behind a woman who was either belligerent, argumentative, or it was her first time flying ... ..she was actually arguing with TSA that her bottles didn't add up to that fluid amount whereas it doesn't actually matter to TSA if it is a 100 ml bottle with only 20 ml in it it counts at 100 ml!! PS if you ever want to laugh watch George Clooney and Anna Kendrick in "up in the air" if you haven't already.. funny scene involving profiling which TSA line to get into! _EDIT: A 47 second clip is on YT!!!_

@@IntriguedLioness I've seen that movie but I'll have to rewatch that clip. And for sure, it's the bottle size, not the liquid content that they care about. However I managed to get through TSA once with a larger than 100ml bottle of peanut butter when I dumped half of it out. They aren't usually so picky about food, but that day they weren't having it 😆
