Follow these five easy steps to make your English sound more fluent starting today. 1)Smile and breathe. No matter what your level of English, confidence is vital. ... 2)Memorize examples with vocabulary. Don't just memorize lists of words. ... 3)Listen to learn. ... 4)Exercise your mouth muscles. ... 5)Copy a native speaker. Whoever reads this comment, I wish u achieved all the goals in your life and became a great person! Cheers, Afiya :^)

If you want to wish someone something good, don't use verbs after 'wish'. And 'wish' could imply something that you do not have. You should use 'hope' in case you want to use verbs to show goodwill.

@johneyon52573 жыл бұрын
i agree that in meetings - there is a lot of small talk at the start - in fact - that small talk usually starts before the meeting does - it starts when the first people arrive - and will last past the arrival of the last person - but in retail stores - asking something like where an item is - it is not required to make small talk - i don't think i've ever engaged in small talk with staff at a store

Dive in ! Make mistakes ! Write down a dozen (12) words you have seen but don't understand completely and ask an English speaker to explain how to use it to you, and then make up a sentence using the word and ask for feedback from them on correctness/meaning . People will help you if you try, and I think this is universal around the world. It shows that you care about their life and world enough to learn their language.

Hey friend, how are you? I think some of your suggestions are actually nice for continuation of conversation rather than starting a conversation. In China, one of the conversation starter is "have you eaten?" and it actually means how are you. For me, "how are you? work like a magic to start conversation. However every culture has its own conversation starters. For example, when I live in Germany, while meeting we use bright smile 😁 almost a laugh and say Halo, wei gehet? But I returned to my country in Pakistan, my friend burst on me while I saw him first up and smiled. In case, you find other in a different emotional state, try to modify the starters to share their problems and providing a rationale for the bad situation. Anyways, I liked this video very much ❤️.

i can't believe the Costco guy didn't answer your question right away - no service person has ever not answered my direct question directly - they don't waste my time with small talk - or a "how are you" - maybe that's a Costco protocol - but i would consider that guy very rude - even insulting by suggesting i'm not doing things properly for the 60+ years i've shopped in american stores - it's business-like - americans might precede the question with a "hi" - but that's for attention-getting - not the start of a conversation - and that is not always required
@lylestavast76523 жыл бұрын
Exactly. More commonly someone might see an employee and say something like "Hi, I am looking for , can you tell me where it is if you still stock it". Or maybe you shop the same store often and something isn't where it was previously, "Hi, they used to have the next to the cheese cooler but it appears to have been moved, can you point me to where it's been moved"... Women tend to be more into "small talk" than men, unless men are flirting a bit to be seen as not too gruff. (some good words for people to look up in these sentences). And after you ask for assistance, tell them "Thanks, you were very helpful" . Women who small talk men are often taken as flirting, so some of what she was describing is woman-woman small talk. Men are more direct generally, IMO (in my opinion).
