Having a mass amount of I/O and 10Gb + 2.5Gb Ethernet makes the $500 a little easier to swallow. But at that price, def should be including a USB with the drivers rather than a waste of polycarbonate. If I decide to go with Zen4+ or 3D V-Cache, this could be the board I go with. Couldn't care less about OC anyways. AMD is already pushing these CPU's to the hilt out of the box. I'd just enable the 105 watt eco mode TBH.
@kaseyboles30

That or set a lower temp target. One guy set his to 85c and actually saw a TINY perf increase, though that could be just silicon lottery on his 7950. Either way if you don't happen to get a cpu near the bottom of the silicon lottery you shouldn't see any noteworthy loss to perf (0-3% is what I've mostly been seeing on reviews of the 105 eco mode).
@TheGameBench
@TheGameBench 2 жыл бұрын
@@kaseyboles30 Ah... good point. I'd be curious to see how 10 degree drops down to 65 degrees would compare to the 110 eco mode. If I could limit it to 75 watts, with a lower hit to perf, that would be a much better solution.
@kaseyboles30
@kaseyboles30 2 жыл бұрын

@@TheGameBench Understandable. Unless your using it to make money and that tiny percent adds up to a bigger income. At that point tweaking for max performance makes sense and could even yield a cooler running chip if you do well enough in the silicon lottery.

I debated going that same route with the 12900k and Z690 board. I think the timing of the purchase worked out well that the X670 is almost out and went with that. The future proof-ish addition of the PCI-E 5.0 m.2 slots and 2.5+10GbE ports won me over to the X670 side. I really love what AMD has been doing the last few years, and the fact that it is reasonable to believe that they will stick with the AM5 design for 4-5 years makes the board just a bit more valuable in my mind as an upgrade in 3 years only requires an new CPU, and maybe some ram depending on how far forward that leaps.

It is such a good board compared the gaming board I was using before, I haven't ran into any software lockups (anomalies) or weird usb issues like I did on the gaming board, micro stutters in 3d art apps, etc. You pay for the build quality, longevity and stability checks that Asus sends these boards through. What's ur opinion on this vs the Asus Strix Gaming x670e-e? I'm building a new workhorse pc that is literally all purpose from 4k editing to high end VR gameplay and recording, streaming etc. I'm really torn between the 2. I don't need the 10gb lan but the usb 4 seems nice to have, the 16+2 power phase concerns me but I only plan on using the automatic overclocking features of the 7950x would this be enough? Full build should be 4090, 1300w psu, 32gb 6000 ddr5 and a 7950x. Only reason I passed on the asrock x670e tachi was the lack of the lower pcie lane or else I would have jumped on that. I don't think the upcoming 13th gen has what it takes - 8 extra e cores is nice and all, but they aren't full performance cores. plus it's still 10 nm.

Well the benchmarks are out today. As leaked, multicore and performance benchmarks check out. Performance for price is not bad at all... the question is whether one wants to jump into a generational dead end (14th gen will be new socket) and pay premium for it - I mean if you don't care about upgrading why not AM4? Would be cheaper and still provide ample performance and blow this out of the water. Admittedly AM4 motherboards are all kinda bad on I/O, whereas new Z chipset motherboards have superb I/O and sport Thunderbolt 4 ports (you might not care about port specifically but that's A LOT of bandwidth on separate controller to connect tons of USB peripherals...)

These new X670 boards use the Intel JHL8540 chip (which is a Thunderbolt controller) yet the ports are technically not TB4. There aren't many TB4 devices out (compared to the USB4-compatible TB3), but I still find it odd that these aren't "TB4 guaranteed" - do you think it's Intel politics, or just about time/money? The last X570 ProArt had TB4 certification.
@blkspade23
@blkspade23 9 ай бұрын
Yeah there effectively 2 things that make USB4 and TB4 different. Min spec feature set, and Intel certification. The former mostly comes down to PCIe tunneling for most people, while the latter is an additional check by Intel to use the Thunderbolt branding. That's both politics and money/time added to the process. This board is TB4 without being able to call it as such. The actual drivers in the OS even still refer to it as a TB controller. On AM4 only Asrock made the move to get 1 ITX-X570 board TB3 certified, while they had a 2nd ATX X570 that included TB3. It isn't called that on the box while it is on the product page. Referred to as Hyper USB-C on the box. I think very much that motherboard makers needed a way to offer the feature on AMD in a way they could market it, without having to pay Intel to call it Thunderbolt. So now we have an official USB4 spec that can be (but not always), equivalent to TB4 without the Tax. Gigabyte and Asus wouldn't release "TB" boards until the AM4 socket was effectively EOL. The X670 Proart was cheaper and more available than the X570 version.

As mentioned in the video, there's a 10g Ethernet port built-in, which, if you need it, saves money. Not to mention, that if you buy a separate 10g Ethernet card, you'll use up one of your PCIe slots. For me, I'm using one PCIe slot for my GPU, and another for a Black Magic DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K. I really don't want to use up the last PCIe slot just for a 10g Ethernet card. Having 10g Ethernet and Thunderbolt 4 on the motherboard are two must-haves for me. I'd gladly spent $500 for that motherboard, if only they made one with a Z790 chipset.

I would assume it is the lack of Q-Code and a Clear CMOS button. You would have to diagnose somewhat blindly and go old-fashioned with a jumper on a header to reset the Bios after a failed overclock. Well none of that matters when you can download latest drives from ASUS website as you should always do anyway. I personally favor ProArt board cause I think it is overall better apart from overclocking or RGBs. On my opinion, none of those really matter. Thanks for doing this. Always thoughtful and informative. I’m a ‘content creator’ but with quite different needs from those usually covered in this and similar reviews. I use large orchestral libraries to write music. These are best saved on fast NVMe drives and partially loaded into memory for real-time use. There are lots of ways of optimising a computer to get the best from limited resources, but ultimately, a fast multicore CPU, solid state drives and at least 64GB of RAM (128GB+ is better for large orchestral templates) are optimal. A powerful GPU is of limited use in this type of work. * The other essential attribute is silence - or as near to it as you can get. The last thing you want when trying to record or mix music in a studio is a computer doing impersonations of a household vacuum cleaner. Moving the computer away from the studio/control room to a quiet cupboard isn’t often a viable option and that’s why, after decades of using PCs, I am considering paying a ridiculous amount of money for a Mac Studio. I like PC’s and I like using Windows too, because I know what to do when things don’t work properly. However, builds like the one featured here make increasingly less sense to me. Here’s why: It doesn’t matter which CPU you choose, INTEL or AMD; to achieve the performance they offer you must supply them with masses of power and then spend good money trying to cool them down. It is the same with GPUs. Year on year the situation gets worse: more power and more cooling. It is nuts and, unless I have missed something, the only company that seems to be trying to buck this trend is Apple. An elegant solution to a problem is an efficient one and I don’t think that word can be applied to any of the more recent creator builds I see on line. Wish me luck with the Mac Studio. The only Apple product I have is a phone and I have figured that out so there is hope. 😉 *Worth noting that a company (GPU.Audio) are working on applications which redeploy GPU processing cores for audio processing. This is huge for people doing what I do.

Hmm... I had lots of bad luck with this mainboard. I built 2 identical PC's with this mainboard and got no image, just a white LED. I bought an older CPU thinking it was maybe the new x79503d that wasn't supported but still no image. Tried flashing with USB flash, no luck. Tried a different GPU, different PSU, different RAM, tried onboard graphics too, cleared CMOS, but no luck. Remember, this goes for both PC's, both had the same problem with no image. Maybe these boards are very picky with RAM. I swapped for a MSI MEG ACE and problems went away.

should you use this for gaming?
@Foxhood

This motherboard can be used as just a solid gaming platform. It has all the features you can find on a gaming motherboard, It just has a bunch of stuff on top for prosumers. Would be a bit overkill if you only plan to game and not use some of the extra features though. General Advice: Picking a Motherboard is mostly just a case of picking whatever has all the IO you need. Does it got enough M.2 slots? Enough USB ports? enough PCIe of the right speed? etc. Other than that. Pretty much any decent motherboard should prove reliable and perform well these days.

Can you use video over USB from the iGPU? What I mean is without using the Display Port in from the dGPU.
@Foxhood
@Foxhood Жыл бұрын
Yes! The motherboard has two USB4 ports with video output (DP-Alt) on the back. Port 1 connects to the dGPU (if you use the cable, else it is inactive), while port 2 always connects to the iGPU. So you can just plug any usb-c monitor or C->DP cable on the second port. If you want to verify yourself: I've quickly looked it up in the digital user manual that is available on Asus's website under support. Page 2-23 of the english version. Never hurts to read the manual before considering a purchase!

@@Foxhood I downloaded the manual, its right where you said! What does the warning do not swap USB4 ports when Motherboard is on?
@Foxhood
@Foxhood Жыл бұрын
@@CreateNowSleepLater "Hot swap" is the act of (dis)connecting a active powered device to another powered device. Which is often advised against. It basically is saying "Please turn OFF the monitor OR your PC, before you either plug it in, or pull it out". Standard precaution. It normally isn't harmful, but better safe than sorry.

what is not really clear to me ( which I've bought one of this) is why even if I connect an 8x pcie 3.0 on the second pcie slot the gpu got bifurcated... Like if the bandwidth is actually 24 pcie lanes 5.0 from my ryzen 9 7900x why asus won't simply allow the bus to use the correct lanes instead of trunk those? I mean if the 3rd pci-e got 4 lanes 4.0 isn't understandable that the bandwidth should make it work an 8x 3.0? I don't just understand this mechanism... In the previous model with the 5900x I didn't have this problem at all. I had fitted everything in the moba ... 3 m.2 and all the 3 slots, ofc there I can understand the gpu to go at 8x ... but on this moba I don't really understand this thing of the bifurcation is so strict restriction... I whish I can use an old BDM capture card which use 8x gen 3.0 on the 3rd slot but turns out I can't... and if I put that on the 2nd slot my gpu goes auto at 8x... I don't really understand. If the first two are 5.0 pci-e why doesn't that simply work at it full speed with the lower gen of pcie...

No. You’d be good. The boards that are creators are going to have pretty much all the things you’d need. Keeping in mind that most people don’t OC the piss out of their CPU and stuff. The only thing I think this board is lacking that I physically wish it didn’t was the reset CMOS button. Instead they put a couple of use functions on the board that as a gamer I’d never touch. However… whether it be this AM5 board or the z690/790 variant you’ll be set.

Can you test this with a Storage controller? I have an MSI MEG ACE x670E which does not both with a storage card (I use raid6 card) present. Seriously you can enter BIOS or boot menu, but will not boot.
