i added up the basic exam only cost of the certification in the WGU cybersecurity BS.. the tests alone were $4085 or so - for an extra 200 you get to add a BS to your resume instead of just the certifications. Many automated hiring processes reject any resume with out degrees. So it's absolutely worth it - IF you can knock it out in 6months.

WGU Is definitely a really good program, and I can say this with confidence being in the industry for about 10 years, having having multiple certifications, as well as having a Masters in Cybersecurity! I do like how they have certifications included it because honestly. Now, If you want to do research, and go maybe a research track, then a bigger University is probably the better option since they get grants, funding, and professors that are working on research so that is something to think about.

So be careful about swapping careers they may not just take anybody. @CharlieJ25882 жыл бұрын
Also in the military, have you looked into possibly cross training into any kind of cyber operations career field? Client Systems Technician, Network Infrastructure, Servers etc. all good career fields to get your foot in the door. I’ve spent the last five years doing networking in the military and it’s one of the most foundational disciplines in cyber security. If that’s not an option talk to your supervisor explain to them your long term goals and develop a game plan together to get there, see if your leadership will let you volunteer to help the comm. squadron. Speak to the civilian contractors at your base who work with clients servers networks and ask if they could use an extra hand as a volunteer. Not only will that be volunteering hours but that’ll get you away from your usual duties and you’ll gain some experience. There is cyber security involved in so many aspects of DOD networks and you’ll get that hands on experience! Hope this helps and good luck!

Hey man, I went to a web dev boot camp after high school, and I’ve been working a full-stack web dev role professionally for the last few years. I’m now looking to get my degree and make a transition to the cybersecurity field. My plan consists of obtaining a bachelor’s from WGU, and a master’s degree in cybersecurity potentially from Georgia Tech. Hi! Nice vid btw! I appreciate your experiences and input on being as a student in WGU. However what do you think about WGU for students that JUST graduate from high school? I'm planning on applying for a BA cyber security degree, however hearing that people just don't reccomend applying to this school without work expierence is kind of demotivating me to attend. I would really appreciate it if I got input on this, and it would help me be more comfortable on deciding on other options besides WGU. If I do want to get work expierence on the field without any type of degree besides a highschool diploma could I still possibly apply to a help desk job? Degree. Absolutely no to a boot camp unless you're already in a job and have a fair bit of dev and systems experience. I had the same question when researching which path to take since I already had my bachelors in a completely different field. I decided to go the BS route (which I start in 3 days) instead of MS, because the courses provided really seem to help build a solid foundation of IT concepts and principles (especially for someone like me not having a technical background).
