Congratulations on the project. It turned out very good. Allow me a suggestion: to provide more stability when lifting, it would be interesting to install two more pantographic structures parallel to the central structure. In this case, closer to the side bars of the frame/chassis. This way, when lifting, it won't wobble as much, even reducing the risk of breakage due to overweight.

I built a dump trailer a few years ago. My base trailer had coil springs and I cut the truck bed frame right behind them. This allowed me to tilt the trailer bed about 30% closer to the front. It turned it into more of a teeter totter effect. I then built a sub frame for the trailer bed. This required much less mechanical force to lift it, as the weight in the back helped lift the front. This also put the bed right on the ground allowing me to drive my ATV right in without the use of ramps. I loved your idea of lifting it, mine was not as ingenious. The two ideas combined would have been just the ticket. Thank you, I really enjoyed the video.

The bed is connected only to the hinge on the frame. The airstream could cause the bed to raise up. Especially if you want to transport something light with great wind resistance. Therefore, I would recommend an additional lock that fixes the bed to the frame, so that this can be ruled out while riding.

All you need to do to double the lifting power of the winch, would be to double the length of cable, add a pulley to where the cable is anchored on the hinge, and the cable would be strung through the pulley and anchored on the post that mounts the winch. Excellent video.

Just a suggestion, might add a couple of front left & right corner drop in bolts or spring-loaded pins to prevent heavy loads...rock & sand, etcetera, from stressing/shifting frame laterally in the front two corners tying upper & lower sections together during travel. From your video, it appears all front lateral force is dependent upon the three rectangular tubes at the lift/pivot point. Thanks again for a very good build!

in order to increase the power of the winch you would have had to lead the hook back to the winch because then you have a pulley system where you only have to apply half the force the way you have guided the rope now the winch has to when it pulls the lever carry full load but your work is otherwise clean and tidy👍👍👍

Also, if he adds several meters more cable, the winch will be stronger. The more cable on the spool, the larger the spool becomes. Like gears on a bicycle, the larger the front gear, (at the pedal crank) the more power you’ll have.

@@MegaClaymor As an avid off roader, I'd suggest you've got it backwards...First layer wrap on the drum has the most power as it's the smallest diameter, successive wraps increase the diameter and reduce the pulling power. All winches are rated on the first wrap, with up to a 50% decrease on units with long cables. In your bicycle analogy, the larger front (crank) gear increases speed and reduces power. Easy to confuse!

Great job on that, very neat. Is there a reason for running the cable through a pulley first then to the fixed point, could you not just have the fixed point where the pulley is. If you could do it that way, with the stronger winch, you could unhook it from the fixed point and then use the winch to pull heavy items onto the trailer, the winch mounted a bit higher and cable left full length of course. Hook it back on when you want the tipper function again.

Creative design! However, as the bed begins to raise, the raising mechanism has nearly "zero" mechanical advantage (because the mechanism is acting nearly in a horizontal direction, & only a small force component is acting in the vertical direction, to raise the bed), but as the bed raises higher, the mechanism has a greater component of force in the vertical direction, which would allow for less total force required (from the winch) to raise the bed. A moment arm with right angle to the bed lift arm, & located at the pivot point of where the winch cable attaches should provide better mechanical advantage. The winch cable would attach to the end of the moment arm, rather than the raising mechanism's pivot.

Just to point out a small flaw in a otherwise great video; That trailer is without brakes, so I guess it has a max. load of 750 kg. By the looks of it it was added quite a lot of weight in material to build this, which would reduce the trailers carrying capacity by the same amount. It would have been interesting to see by how much. Make the same design on a trailer with a maximum capacity of 3 tons or so would be interesting.

1) The winch has more strength if there is a full wrap of wire rope ( cable ) on the drum when you have it fully deployed ( bed down in this case ) so the cutting it shorter is a big cause in the lack of strength you noticed. 2) if the pulley was instead a snatch block you could remove the cable from, you would be able to easily switch from dumping to pulling a larger item onto the trailer. 3) chains from the side of the trailer to the top of the tailgate would let it be a slight extension to the length of the bed for both hauling and dumping.

re:1) no, it will be weaker, smaller drive shaft for cable = stronger pull, larger drive shaft = weaker pull (it has to do more work. 2) yes.

Not so, on the extra wrap of cable, the bigger the diameter if the drum , the less power, experiment,,put bigger tires on your truck, you will notice you have less power and need more engine to climb, same sinereo.
@therealsideburnz
@therealsideburnz Жыл бұрын
@@jaquigreenlees 1 full wrap of cable is generally required on a winch because the friction of the cable on the drum reduces stress on the cable anchor point. Pulling a heavy load with no wraps is likely to pull the cable from its anchor point. You can think of the winch drum as a gear. Larger diameter (more layers of cable) is a higher or larger gear. More layers of cable will increase your line speed, but reduce your pulling power.

Abs, Alexandre Lar - S. Paulo.
