I have been wearing dresses all my life and just went through my seventh pregnancy last year. I sew nearly all my clothes and just a few months ago I finally designed a dress that is nursing friendly without looking odd or with all sorts of layers/flaps😆. I have sewn five of them now and I feel so lovely and feminine, and it is a flattering cut for my postpartum body. Thanks for covering this topic!!

I had two babies and but only 1 maternity garment: a pair of maternity pants. I wore it with a couple of large button-up shirts and woollen cardigans. Other than this, 3 pretty non-maternity shirt-dresses that were large at the waist and worn without the belt after the 5th month when my belly started to really show. That's all!! It was the late 90s and it's true we didn't feel comfortable showing every detail of our belly and pregnant body. I was very proud of my body but I felt as if larger clothes would somehow protect my baby and belly more, like a soft cocoon :) I always put comfort first during pregnancies but also enjoyed staying pretty and presentable at all times.

As someone currently nursing, the wrap dresses she mentioned are really nice, anything with a stretchier neckline to pull down under a nursing cover, nursing tanks (I’m not sure if they make nursing slips), and there are many online websites that make nursing dresses. Hi Nikki, you look beautiful today (well always). I love that gorgeous dress. Maternity wear has certainly changed since I had my first child in 1968. All there really was to wear were blouses called smocks. Wide enough to cover the belly with extra room. I probably had those pants with the maternity panel in them. I would have never worn a t-shirt with stretch pants like you see today (would be so embarrassing back then) . I'm enjoying seeing your subscribers closets.

Hi Nikki, Ah the joys of motherhood does leave its changes to our bodies but it is part of being a living sacrifice as scripture says in the New Testament. Having babies in my 20's, 30's and 40's brought quite the changes in maternity styles! When our last 2 full term babies were born, maternity clothing was super fitted and regular clothing roomy so I lived in a slimming denim maternity skirt and slimming black skirt with tops mostly from J Jill. I was able to use these tops for nursing and happy to get back into my regular skirts after 6 weeks. Great topic! All the best, Julie

I'm currently in my 3rd trimester and one thing I do often to make my non-pregnancy clothes is to wear a long cardigan. It hides any weird back things that happen when wearing a non maternity garment. The thing in struggle with most with clothing this pregnancy is that I'm also caring for 1.5 yo twins and there is no way I can wear something twice anymore. So the amount of clothes that I had with my first pregnancy is not nearly enough this pregnancy.

I found "swing" dresses from Old Navy to be very comfy in my last pregnancy. Now I lean more towards wrap dresses, as they hide my tummy best and still highlight my waistline, I avoid elastic waistlines on dresses at all times, as I find that they make me look bigger and frumpy.

I have so much in my closet it’s utterly ridiculous but that being said I wear every single thing in there I clean out quite frequently and get rid of tons , but I sew a lot of my clothes so I always have those creations , and on top of going to thrift shops frequently, translates to an over abundance .
