Would YOU try these drills? What drills do you think make people faster? Let's get this discussion going 👇

wickets should be sorted by height. Vince Anderson explains this in one of his videos. First 2 wickets are at the person's height, then add 3" for the next 2, and increase in those increments in however many wickets you're doing. run in should be calculated not guessed. take the mid mark of in between wickets 1 and 2. and then from that mid mark go back the runner's height and subtract 3" from each step. there should be 6-7 steps before you get into the wickets.

Please make more speed videos, I’m a track runner and hopefully one day in the Olympics

What hurdles hight is recommended (cm)?
@JKKID32 жыл бұрын
No height. Having a hurdle often causes excess knee drive where the emphasis should be on putting force into the ground

When I do wickets with my track team, I always knock them over. How can I avoid hitting them when I’m running?
@theloniuslucien60583 жыл бұрын
Get your knees higher
@mkdorkov1233 жыл бұрын
Turn the hurdles so they're not elevated. Lay them down. Many coaches just use flat slats, PVC pipes, or short cones.

This is exactly why wickets are not necessarily a good drill for everyone. They teach you to think about things (like knee lift) that *should not* be part of your conscious focus. Good mechanics come from the “hammer action” of the feet, high forces into the ground, proper hip positioning, and good arm action. Most other things are a derivative of these, and you should not be thinking about them. The most important thing is that you focus on punching the ground with your feet. (Incidentally, increasing vertical forces will lead to both faster running and higher heel recovery, which may solve your problem.)

Don’t use wickets. It is absolutely critical to have them set up and measured precisely for *each* individual - and this is a big time cost, for questionable benefit. Maybe if you’re a professional and have 3 hours for a workout, then sure. But it’s inefficient. (Nowhere in CFTS, for example, is there anything about wickets.) Maximum speed is developed by performing electronically-timed flying sprints of 10-30m at 100%. Preferably with video analysis if you’re worried about mechanics. That’s it. As DJ would say, “Simple, not easy.” Timing accuracy is critical, so be prepared to spend $500+ for an accurate system. (Freelap is usually a good option for non-professionals.)

that drill is almost meaningless in developing a dominant fast-twitch sprinters ham (says a guy who had crazy speed)

his knees are not high enough
@jameshegeman56602 жыл бұрын
It depends on the individual. Knee lift is a product of other mechanics, and not something to actively think about.
