Best electric car in Australia? 2023 Kia EV6 review (GT) - EV test

Wow, the ignorant uninformed haters are out in force ! They really have no idea ! Best to ignore them i think. I've had my (Blue) GT for about 10 weeks now. It is simply absolutely astonishingly good. Stunning to look at. Very masculine. Broad shoulders and voluptuous hips. The seats are really supportive and comfortable. Non-electric is really a non-issue. Much easier and faster to just manually adjust instead of waiting......waiting..... waiting ..... for the electric motor to move the seat. Stereo really pumps. Interior lighting is amazing. Auto pretty much everything ( Lane keep, auto steer, wipers, lights, adaptive high beam, adaptive cruise control, surround cameras ..... on and on ) I'm a now retired mechanic of 45 years and without doubt, the ev6 GT is the most amazing car I have ever driven (and I've driven most) It is effortless to drive. Brutally rapid (zero to lose your license in 3 seconds). Astonishing amount of grip, and goes around corners like it is literally on rails (wet or dry) . Even in "Eco" mode (where I do most of my driving) it is quicker "light-to-light" than anything I have ever driven. Without even trying, you hit the speed limit by the time you've crossed the intersection. It seems to just jump to the speed limit rather than accelerate. My kids say it is like when they engage warp drive on StarTrek. It just "jumps" up to the speed. It is actually really hard to keep to the speed limit because it is just so quiet and smooth. I use the adaptive cruise control A LOT ! Step it up to sport mode or GT mode and all hell breaks loose. The power available obviously changes, but so do the brakes, the steering, the shocks, the regen and the throttle mapping. Also to note, the GT is VERY different under the skin than the lesser ev6 models. It has different motors front and rear. Runs 21" wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres Different power inverters and also runs two inverters in parallel for the rear motor. The front suspension utilises a dual lower ball joint design that was pioneered by BMW with the M3's and M4's. In fact, Hyundai/Kia poached Albert Biermann from BMW to help develop the ev6 / i30 N. .....and it shows ! It has an adaptive electronically controlled rear eLSD. Extra Body bracing and strut bracing. HUGE brakes. Higher spec battery and motor cooling systems. Oil cooler for the rear gearbox / diff. Matrix LED headlights and sequential indicators. Heat pump air con system. Oh, and don't forget the "My Drive" mode where everything (power, traction, LSD, brakes, dampers, steering) is customisable, and then there's the "Drift Mode" Which puts all of the 430kW to the rear wheels ............................. So far, the only thing that I am not happy about is that it has the turning circle of a barge, and some of the higher spec tech is not included in Oz. ( Kia app and wireless car play ) Also the dealer support from the Kia mothership is pretty non-existent (and it really shows ! ) And just putting around the 'burbs, using cruise control to avoid the speeding fines, and not being a dickhead boy racer at the lights, my "fuel economy" averages out at about 19kW/100Km. Haters are going to hate, but those that know, KNOW !!! And on the rare occasion that I have hopped back into an ICE car to drive, it really does feel like there is something wrong with it !!

Very good review of the car 👍😊 It does however have adaptive dampers (Sport-mode is 30% stiffer than ECO- and Normal-mode, and GT-mode is 60% stiffer than ECO- and Normal-mode). The backseats can recline, but you have to make sure that the bar containing the boot-cover is moved a bit back to its second position, if you want to be able to do it. I went for the GT, and got it 4 months ago after 20 months of waiting… 😊

Love your reviews,I am starting to love the concept of Ev cars,in particular, performance orientated. Having just bought a brand new i30n sedan and mostly loving it. I'm immensely inspired by EVs performance capabilities. Love the looks of the ev6 compared to Tesla 3. I will most likely transition to an Ev in next year or so. Keep up the good reviews, helps us decide our future exhilarating car purchases.

Already have on unbelievable all rounder if looking for a EV best move we've made. It also has adaptive suspension normal mode isn't bad but really stiffens up in Sport and GT mode.

This car would be a total weapon for suburban soccer mums driving around Melbourne picking up there kids from school and cricket practice at 4-5pm on a weeknight, One high heel mistake would send 600HP of 2.5 tons into the back of some poor ladies Toyota Yaris.

There are cheaper EV options incoming with more range. MG4 will have 440km for $45k. Then there’ll be BYD Dolphin sub-$40k. It’ll be the “challenger” brands that offer affordable EVs and established ones will play the expensive game.

The volume of your video is up and down, up and down, depending on which scene you're talking in. Is there a way for you to normalise it for the whole video so we don't need to keep adjusting the volume to hear you?

If i was to buy one it would be the cheapest one same Wank value for less. Problem is you have to recharge it no spare tyre. If you use those repair kits they supply the tyre is a throwaway.

Great video. I own a GT. Had it for 3 weeks. WOW.. Great car. I have for the last year a 2022 ev6 gt line also that my wife and I love. Kia did an amazing job with these cars. Faster than my 1968 Chevelle SS 396 that I drove in the 70's. By the way Great video!!

Thank you, great review....I have the Runway Red EV6 GT and it is absolutely amazing. Have had a great many performance cars and would now never go back to ICE. The performance and suspension combination of the GT is superb. As per the review the interior is awesome, those seats not only look great but yes so very comfortable. Initially I thought the non electric adjustment could be an issue, but you get used to the manual adjustment, and guess what it saves weight which equals more performance.
