@@ismailweber1899 I really love the car, I think that the range especially around town is a real winner. I have a 7.6kW home wall charger 32Ah So charge from 20 to 100 percent in about 5 hours. I like the clean-cut simplicity of the car, it's the rear-wheel-drive GT Line so, no sunroof which I didn't want, never liked them! and longer range than the AWD and hundreds of Kilos less weight without the sunroof, the extra motor and additional shafts and extra suspension etc. I have a Tesla Powerwall in my garage and 5kW of Solar cells with an SMC inverter, the car costs me nothing to run and nothing to charge. I've had it now for 3 months and driven it nearly every day locally, I charged it to 100 percent the day I got it, I recharged it again for the first time a few days ago, it still had 45 percent charge left. Some people might like the extra power of the AWD but for an old bloke like me, this one is perfect.
@ismailweber18992 жыл бұрын
@@glukes9 Thanks a million for the quick response! How often do you charge right up to 100%? I was thinking if I just use the recomended capacity and stay between 20% and 80% battery range, I leave a whole 40% untouched, which is quit a lot unused power. Your thoughts?
@glukes92 жыл бұрын
@@ismailweber1899 That's what I intend doing from now on 20 to 80 percent which is the recommended charge parameters. We bought the car to use as a town car, I have not charged to just 80Percent but when the indicator on the dash shows 80 percent of charge left it also shows a remaining distance of 430kms. Two things I haven't mentioned is, I nearly always drive the car in eco mode and always use i-pedal regen, so I get a lot of regeneration while driving suburban. Another thing to note is, the higher the charge in the battery, the higher the Voltage in the battery, for instance if you put the mode to Sports and push the go-fast pedal with 80pc in battery you will only get 80pc of the power available of having 100pc in the battery, or something like that. In Normal mode it wouldn't make any noticeable difference, but when using Sports-mode it is allowing the battery to use as much Voltage as is available. In Sports mode the car has about the same performance as a WRX.

Kia is bringing 500 cars per year to Australia. There are currently 1500 orders. That is where the 2-3 year delivery claim comes from. But, in actuality, the 500 cars are split up with each dealer getting a set allocation. So if you can find a dealer who has fewer orders, you may still be able to get a car sooner. I placed a deposit on my ev6 a couple days ago and was quoted 18 months. Every dealer in Adelaide quoted me a similar time.

Excellent review as I can confirm all your points. Ours is the same as in your review: EV6 GT-Line AWD (just in red) 11-2023 designated as a MY24 model. I can confirm that the car is capable of 233KW charging as we tried it out on a 350KW Super Charger. We charged from 56% ~ 80%. Charge at outside temperature of around 29C started at 133KW and peaked at 233.46KW before slowing down again to around 150KW. Charge time took 9 minutes for 21KWh. We did get the V2L external adapter as part of the purchase (no extra charge) and the excellent V1 Mains charger that can be adjusted from 8A ~ 12A...all part of the package. We added the boot rubber mat and the foot mats. I can recommend both of these. Car is excellent in all the main points and ours is driven mainly in ECO and REGEN "3", as even ECO has got more then enough pickup when needed. So far we got 3K on the clock and it just had it's complementary service check.

Regarding styling and the Ionic 5 comparisons you’re spot on, all in the eye of the beholder - I5 looks really odd to me whilst EV6 great - but I respect others views. Quick note on costs, I spent $3.17 at a public charger putting about 100km range in the battery, so sub $15 for a full ‘tank’. I’ll be saving $6-7k a year on fuel, insurance and servicing compared to my old X5. So, after 10 years or so it’ll pay for itself!

Hey bro, I am looking for a ev6 gt line rear wheel drive . Just wondering how do you charge the car at home .did you buy the home charger the Kia recommend?how fast is charging at public charging station? If you have to choose between Tesla y rear wheel drive and ev6 gt line RWD , which one will u choose? Thanks
@jimmantle43612 жыл бұрын
Ok, thanks for questions on charging. A standard household 3 pin socket will take forever (1.3kw - 40 hours), but a 350 kw public charger does 10-80% in 18 mins. A standard public charger at 50kw throws in 40-50% per hour. But everything is on curves. Charge is fast from low, charging is slow at over 80%. I’ve installed a home charger (Evie I think) but I have 3 phase so I get about 10% per hour. The trick is to plan ahead and just stick it on and leave it. Most of us have the car in the driveway most of the time.

I just ordered my EV6 and asked the dealer about the matte paint. Apparently, in addition to the cost of the paint, they mandate you purchase Kia's ceramic coating. Great review. Not too over the top! I too am surprised by the lack of overall storage. Without a spare I would normally expect to see a sizeable boot space under the rear floor. The frunk space is a why bother. In time they will learn how to better integrate all the components and create space. There is also no room to put anything under the back seats. I carry a fair bit of safety gear and not having a spare I like to carry the ability to jack and remove a wheel so I can get it repaired or at least install a plug more easily. I do worry about third party batteries and overall thermal management. I see great things coming from this company in future and appreciate this Korean company is starting to head in this direction. Unlike Japanese counterparts. Biggest drawback is the lack of a reliable charging network. We all don't live in the big cities.

Just curious - outside of the fact we have a limited EV market in Australia, I wonder how Kia’s brand and price positioning in the EV space will work out. Especially against Tesla that undercuts it on price but still has a fresh air to the brand, and is often compared to the 3 Series and C Class. While Hyundai and Kia have shed their 90s to 2000s reputation, they still firmly feel like a mainstream manufacturer that’s now in luxury pricing territory. I’d even say Mazda or VW occupy the upper side of mainstream, and it would be less of a push for them to make a car like the EV6. Nothing on the car though, seems great though the half hatchback half wagon shape is a bit polarising. I’d prefer a sedan tbh but I know most Australians (and people around the world for that matter) would take a medium size SUV, so it’s crazy they didn’t use a bestseller platform for their new design.

Why do EVs have regular car batteries as well as their big battery pack? I noticed it next to the frunk and I’ve seen it on other EVs too

it's to run all the 'normal' 12v systems. If the 12v battery is flat, you can't 'start' the car (same as the Ionic5). The batteries that provide the motive power would need a significant inverter to step down to 12v so a normal battery is a cheaper more eficient option.

@@azraelizdog oh right, thanks for the info. Does it somehow get charged when the car does given the voltage difference you mentioned?

@@TAB10688 Truthfully, I don't know the mechanism for the low (12v) charging system. Whether it is a step down transformer or a separate 12V charging system (maybe from the Re-gen energy). Mmaybe there's a Kia Tech monmitoring this and can provide an accurate response.
