Why don't you put the 'real range' of the Model S in the video then?
@LoanwordEggcorn4 жыл бұрын
Most drivers in the EU drive fewer than 60 km per day since most daily driving is local. Therefore range is largely irrelevant. Long range makes very long road trips possible, along with a good fast charger network, but otherwise is a non-issue for the daily use of most drivers. Pretty much any EV will meet daily driving needs. Longer range makes long road trips possible, but even without that EVs are already highly practical for the driving most people actually do every day. Similarly charge times are largely irrelevant. Most EV drivers plug in at home or work and have a full charge before they leave. Charging an EV is not much more difficult than charging a phone or laptop. It's much more convenient than going to a fossil fuel station, since an EV can be charged any place that has electricity. There's no need to go to a filling station if you have electricity where you live or work. P.S. Don't test drive a Tesla Model 3 unless you want to end up buying one. It is one of the best cars anyone has made so far. Drive one, and see for yourself.

you guys got some things wrong, the model S performance does 0-60mph in 2.4 seconds not 3.7 and its top speed is 163 with an estimated EPA (not WLTP) range of 390 miles (that was recently announced tho but the model S cars that where made in the last few months should reach that). i say its worth the money since you cant find a faster, longer range car than this for its price.

I agree with this video 100%. I have owned my tesla model 3 performance for about 3 month and so far, it is the best, most fun, safest car (NHIS) I have ever owned. I have owned lexus gs350, bmw 550i, benz e350 previously. Those were all very good cars. Model 3, yes a bit pricey, but no more then other compact or midsize luxury sedans. Ofcourse it costs more then camries or corollas, but tesla model 3 is not camries or corollas. Plus very low maintenance costs compared to ICE cars, plus savings from gas. I am SO glad with my decision to go with model 3. The performance of model 3 is just unbelievable. Go test drive one, and you will see why they chose it for #1. Don't test drive a Model 3 unless you want to end up buying one. Almost everyone who test drives a Model 3 buys one. It's that good. We have owned multiple Mercedes sedans. The Tesla Model 3 is a better car in every aspect, though it's not quite as well built. Teslas are built as well as BMW or Toyota. Build quality is very good. But the driving and ownership experience of any Telsa, but particularly the Model 3 is almost incomparable. It's impossible to find any other car that has the torque, smoothness, quiet, handling, comfort, safety, automation, continually improving technology, range, fast charging network, etc., at this price. Model 3 Performance is objectively and subjectively superior to a BMW M3, particularly in terms of ride comfort but also performance and smoothness. It's also quicker around a race track.

@@fleyua7176 The Hyundai and Kia EVs are very good cars, but they're no Teslas. The reason the Korean hatchbacks have good range is because they're smaller cars. And unfortunately the Hyundai and Kia EVs are built in relatively small numbers, which is why they're hard to get. It's a sign that the Korean automakers have not really committed to building EVs in large volumes, unlike Tesla. The Tesla Model 3 has better highway efficiency than the Kia or Hyundai EVs because the Tesla has extremely low aerodynamic drag. Yeah. I found that to be a real eye-roller of a comment. I wonder how much this list would vary if done from an American roads perspective. I understand much of Europe finds the Tesla M-S and M-X too large to comfortably operate everywhere. Also, in 2020 America, the Tesla Supercharger network blows away non-Tesla options for fast charging. Not so much OR so important in much of Europe. As an American, I have a hard time imagining a rational analysis of available EVs concluding that the ETron, IPace or any other EV would be more desirable than an S, X, or Y.
@jammy25974 жыл бұрын
Did a quick comparison using configurations for the Model X I-Pace and E-Tron (uk sites as that’s where I’m from and where these reviewers are also from), spec for spec: no autopilot option selected to make the assistance systems more alike as well as no fancy lighting for the Jag or Audi, no heads up displays, 5 seat option for the model x with base battery pack, no exterior colour or wheel options selected. The Audi was £61k but had the least range and comparable space to the Jag, the Jag would be £70k and the Tesla would be £86k. This does not take in to account discounts at Audi and Jag dealerships which can drop the prices for the I-pace to around £60k. While the Tesla is definitely and unquestionably the better car... you’ll pay the best part of £16-20k for the privilege, although not one of these cars is exactly cheap :)

Yet their supercharging is only available on relatively new cars, and Tesla can and do turn off the facility remotely. And €59,000 for the base model is way more than even the most dedicated green warrior can afford. When you put that against the €43,433 of a top spec e-Niro or the €36, 815 for a similar spec Zoe, it becomes almost impossible to see the Model 3 as an affordable option. Personally, I also hate the Tesla's instrumentation / ICE. Personally, I think I'll wait a while and see what future generations of batteries will be capable of. Having seen some interesting results from hemp-based batteries that should prove significantly cheaper and better performing than even the Tesla's graphene based batteries, I'd be surprised if future generations of batteries can't significantly improve on what is currently available, and be cheaper into the bargain.

The issue I have with Tesla is that they are pretty much an upcharge for lot of the options that don't come on the base model and which you probably want. By the time you've done some of that up featuring and shelled out some more bucks so that you can plug into non Tesla chargers (cause believe it or not, they aren't always where you need them) you are paying a heck of a lot more than the base price in Canada. By contrast, the Niro has two versions, two prices and heck of lot of features for similar money of a slightly above base 3. Yes the 3 has faster acceleration and so on but having driven both and even compared it to an older leaf, I can't say I would ever shell out for the 3. I would rather have the S if I were to go that direction. Not to mention my friends 3 leaked right off the lot. Imagine getting a car in a rainy climate that leaks? Tesla had to come out to fix it but that should never happen. He went for a pretty upscaled version (extended range, AWD etc.). By the time he finished adding up the bill he was into the plus $70000.00 range for a model 3. The problem with ratings is that they don't really take into account the different priorities of drivers. For example, I couldn't give a rat's you know what about having a 0-60 time in the 3-4 second range. I hate the fact that so many cars focus on that metric. It doesn't represent anything really practical for the most part. Normal driving doesn't often if ever require that level of acceleration and there are far more important things that one could focus on so far as I am concerned. Give me practical transport, that is comfortable and that is what I am looking for.

There is still so much improvement to be made before I even consider any of these. I need less screen and more buttons. I can change my AC settings on my 1995 Celica with my eyes closed. It was the price when this was made. @Noah_E3 жыл бұрын
Entitlement? Do you mean higher expectation and needs? America is a much bigger country than Europe and many cars that are capable city cars there are simply not practical here. We tend to need longer ranges since we travel more and longer distances. The average European drives 7,450 miles (12,000 km) a year vs 13,500 miles in the USA. That is a HUGE difference. I'll never understand why this is such an important figure.
@Danielevans24 жыл бұрын
@@bujin1977 it indicates how fast the car feels on the body. It's only when you accelerrate and brake that you feel the power of the car. Just like flying in a plane, you only feel the speed when you take off and land because your body expereinces the g forces on it. Sure when you're flying at 550 mph you can see the plane moving quick but that's not the same as feeling the weight on your body as you accelerate. Also every second counts when it comes to 0-60 times.At 11 seconds you'll feel an additional 1/4 or 25% of your weight on your body. At 5 seconds it doubles to 1/2 or 50% and at 2.74 seconds you'll feel the whole weight of your body pulling you back.
@bujin19774 жыл бұрын
@@Danielevans2 I understand the concept of acceleration and g-forces. I also understand the importance of quick acceleration from, say, 30mph to 50 or 60mph as that is useful for overtaking. 0-60mph is also fairly useful if you're pulling out of one of those short slip roads onto a dual carriageway, which (at least, for me) happens on very rare occasions. Outside of those circumstances, the acceleration of the car doesn't seem like an important metric to me. And the ability to accelerate to 60mph in 3 seconds is not only totally unnecessary but pretty dangerous, and encourages reckless driving.

Currently, if ever I decided to go "full EV", the only make I'd go for would be Tesla. And that is purely for the infrastructure they have already in place. They are just so far ahead of the rest of the market it's laughable. And if Tesla made the Model 3 with a dashboard similar their bigger models, it would be a clear winner. But EV's are so vastly overpriced at the moment, it makes buying one, especially if you're on a pension due to ill health, totally impossible.
@stiglau4 жыл бұрын
If you’re American; often take long trips and need a large car, then Tesla has few competitors. As an European/Norwegian city dweller, the most important factor is whether you can tether (your cable) overnight or where you park at work. As a family of five, we chose the eTron due to price over the Tesla and preferred the boot space over the Jag. You buy what you can afford and adapt your lifestyle to what you’ve got.

The Zanzibarbarian. Totally agree, other manufactures are just playing at it with their Self Charging Nonsense, what's the point of having an EV with a Petrol Engine to charge the battery to drive the car, just have the Petrol engined car and save yourself a fortune, the public are being misled again like they were with Diesel, on top of that the Government are now saying hybrids will be outlawed as well in twelve years. They need to make a plan and stick to it, all this uncertainty will cause chaos to the Motor Industry which are already struggling because of all this changing of minds. The Government had better get their finger out and build some new Power Stations because if they pull the plug on gas fired central heating as well as cars going electric the Grid will never Cope with demand, what an utter Balls Up this is going to be, this is what happens when politicians get to make decisions that they Know Nothing about just to please the Green Agenda. They have made commitments on climate change that can't possibly be achieved in the Timescale they've set themselves. Millions of charging points will need to be installed across the country for people without driveways or live in flats, try plugging your car in from 20 floors up, that's one hell of an extension lead you'll have to have, as it stands NOW the whole thing is Pie in the Sky until the infrastructure is installed and batteries are a Lot Better.
@davidellis2794 жыл бұрын
John Edwards. Are well that's the solution to the problem then, so I buy an EV to pop to the shops or into town and hire or buy another car for longer journeys, I don't think that's going to work for me, I buy one car that's does both and the only car that does that is either a petrol of diesel powered vehicle, problem solved and no hanging about waiting for batteries to charge up, at my age I haven't the time to waste on this nonsense or the money to run 2 vehicles when 1 will do. This sort of thinking is going to make parking and traffic jams even worse than they are now when EVs run out of charge and block the already congested city centres, the Breakdown services are going to have a field day recovering EVs that people have forgotten to charge, try putting a gallon of electricity in a can to get home.
@davidellis2794 жыл бұрын
John Edwards. I can see your very much in favour of EVs and in an ideal world where charging points are everywhere and charging takes minutes instead of hours I can see the advantage of them. They will be great from an environment point of view but their limitations will not suit some people in all situations. People on low or fixed incomes like pensions will be hardest hit by these changes even though they are urgently needed for the planet but more thought should have been put into these changes by people who know what they are doing instead of knee jerk reactions by MPs to please the tree huggers. We are both disabled and can't wait for hours waiting for batteries to charge when on a long journey with no toilet facility's around it just won't work for us and I'm sure many other people in the same situation.
@thezanzibarbarian57294 жыл бұрын
@John Edwards - Renting a car is OK if you have a planned trip. But what happens when you suddenly need to drive 300+ miles in an emergency? From the South Midlands I had to go up to Carlisle one evening (450 mile round trip.) and if I had an EV, it would most likely have been on it's overnight recharge so instead of taking just under 4 hrs just to get there, it would have taken 6 hrs or more. And of course, once in Carlisle, it's stopping near enough to where I needed to go to recharge the car before the trip back south again. I see the point of EV's. But it's the excessive cost to buy one and all the other paraphernalia that goes with them that stops me buying one.
