For all of the heavy stuff in this episode, they actually put quite a few humorous moments in it. I personally found the part where Lestat is holding his plank of wood/piano key board and he says "Siri pause" was pretty fucking funny. Having an over two hundred year old vampire say "Siri pause" is so ridiculous.

It's funny, cause that's one of the things I love about Lestat. He's obscene. He really is. He's basically a clown (both respectfully & derogatory). Absolutely hilarious, honestly without actually even meaning to be. It's one of the things that is a core part of him in the books, and I love so much that both Sam and Rolin really seem to get it. He does and says the most outrageous shit, at just about the worst most tension or drama filled moments, and you really can't help but laugh. He's so consistently, entertaining. And it's honestly why so many people find it hard to legitimately hate him. And I love that aspect of his character 👌🏽

Lestat let him go with Armand because one, after his part in the Trial, that’s what he thought he deserved, and two, he was giving Louis the agency in that moment, and wasn’t going to force their relationship on him any more.
@-Arkin333 ай бұрын
Thankyou for saying that, alot of people completely misunderstood that, and went straight to freaking out over the assumption that Lestat was treating him like property. Or a pet. By saying "enjoy him" to Armand, then "I gave you", etc... One thing that people seem to completely neglect to consider or remember about Lestat is; yes he was controlling, yes he's a brat and always wants to have his way. And the list goes on... but he never in fact took away Louis' agency. He never forced him to do anything, or stopped him from doing anything. Even for things that he was completely against, and should have stopped (as Louis' maker). Like the starvation and feeding on only animals. He didn't. He constantly was on Louis about human affairs, and complained. But never stopped him. Tried to warn him how things would end with his family and the pain he'd both cause, and experience, but never once stopped him from seeing his family. Louis could come and go when he wanted, could carry on whatever business and do business with whatever and whoever he wanted. Etc. He's always been possessive, etc. But never actually treated Louis like an object, or an actual possession or anything like that... Like I know Armand is not part of the convo here, but it's honestly one of the things I think Armand really got wrong, and really struggled with. And how ultimately he never had, and eventually lost Louis. He constantly basically took away, played games, and bartered with Louis' agency. And honestly didn't seem to understand that what he was doing was wrong, or a problem. Starting way back before they even officially got together. All throughout their relationship, well to the very end. Threatening him (blatantly or subtly), lying to him, taking away his choice or making a choice for him, claiming to do so for Louis' own good or protection. Taking away his very choice to remember, etc. Even making it seem like it was completely Louis choice, when in reality he had just manipulated and twisted the situation to seem that way. Armand tended to treat Louis more like a rare kept animal/pet, or a prized possession, or even trophy that he won... in ways that Lestat never did. And yet still, many people are quick to accuse Lestat of it. Something i've never fully gotten. Sorry, that got away from me 😅

Absolutely LOVED this finale and this closing act of the initial IWTV story. There was a perfect balance between justice, unmasking, and redemption for all of the main characters and Claudia - my Claudia, my light - was finally laid to rest. Her yellow dress was a beautiful memorial headstone in Louis’ home. Claudia really is the beating heart of this story. And she was often cast aside, ignored, and neglected. And that’s THE POINT. That you can love someone so much and realize it too late. That someone can be both the center of your world and a mirror for your own self-indulgence. That’s why Louis’ anger at Armand after the plot twist isn’t “casting away” Claudia - they were _all_ complicit in her execution. Armand was the only member of the love triangle who didn’t give a shit about her, and his true role as overseer made that clear. Throughout the show, the characters wrestle with love and grief, love and abuse, love and complicity and episode 8 shows that all can coexist. Lestat’s abuse doesn’t invalidate his love for Louis or his grief over Claudia. Louis’ complicity in Claudia’s creation doesn’t invalidate his deep, enduring love for her. Even love for New Orleans where so much trauma and transformation took place. Like all human things, love is elusive. It’s complex. It’s beautiful. It’s painful. And at the end of the day, this is a love story. IWTV is an incredibly rich creation and Bobbi, you analyzed it with such nuance, thought, and patience. I’m so happy we had your recaps to look forward to every week!

Okay...now I want a mini Season 2.5 just about The Vampire Sam😂😂 Coz wtf?? Sam infiltrating the vampire covens to spy for the Talamasca and then retiring as a DJ (if that's even true) has to be one of my favourite side quests ever 😂 Will we EVER get the justice we need against Bruce??? I can't stand the idea that he might still be out there after all this time 😠 That entire scene in present day New Orleans left me shattered! I wanted to be mad at Lestat for not telling Louis but let's be for real, with what we know about Louis' personality I don't think it would have made much of a difference. I think he knew Armand had already implanted false memories into his mind and Lestat did genuinely believe that if Louis wanted to leave him he wouldn't stop him. But we're still missing some context between what happened to Lestat after Paris and all the way till now in present day. Why did he suddenly switch to eating rats and living in squalor? He still had a lot of money right? Why did he trust Armand to call him to tell him about Louis in the 70s when he already knew everything was all Armand's plan to keep Louis for himself? And putting Daniel's turning aside, why was the Talamasca even interested in adding those particular questions into the interview? Surely it would interest them more to find out the depth of Lestat and Armand's powers linking all the way back to ancient blood in them more right? Did Sam himself write those questions as some kind of "dun dun duunnnn!!" moment since he's such a theatre nerd?😂 There were way more important things to ask about besides Armand lying about his involvement in the trial!

I'm pretty sure Armand knew that Louis was going to kill the coven. That's why he let him out of the coffin. He used Louis rage as a weapon to destroy the coven. I have a feeling that Louis and Armand were going to either kill or forcibly turn Daniel after the final interview. They said something about having something special for him at the dinner. It sounded kinda ominous. Raglan James told Daniel that four people had previously tried to interview them and they were all either dead or undead. I think that's what they may have had planned for Daniel. I'm pretty sure Real Rashid hauled ass out of there after he delivered the scripts to Daniel. His cover was about to be blown. I feel that the last scene where Louis challenges the vampires to come get him was less about swagger or trying to be tough and more about Louis finally embracing his vampire nature.
@C4ffe1nated_M0rt1ci45 ай бұрын
I agree with everything, but Armand had the plan to change Daniel. Louis, according to Jacob, viewed Daniel as an "annoying little brother" and appreciated the bond they developed. Armand always had it out for Daniel in the series. He was a threat. When he exposed Lestat saving him and the notes in the script, Armand looked at him with fury.

I've actually seen some ppl questioning Daniel's age, but tbh being turned into a vampire at an older age doesn't really matter. Mostly it's just an aesthetic thing. We're all so afraid of getting old we can't imagine being 'stuck' as old forever, even though despite how you look you would be healthier and stronger than any human 25yr old, see better, smell better, move faster, heal faster, etc.
@katyak56645 ай бұрын
Moreover, in the books, the older someone is, and the more life experience they have, the better they do as a vampire. It's the young ones who get the most fucked up in the head.

Lestat was still recovering from the attempt on his life in 1940's New Orleans. On the night that the coven went on a rampage to the Eiffel Tour and the broke into the observatory to steal the telescope lens, Lestat was unaware of this. By the time he mind-pushed the trial to "sentence " Louis to banishment, he was too weak to do more. When the skylight was opened, there was no time for Lestat to do anything. Madeleine and Claudia were on their way to death. He was as horrified and shocked as the audience was when the sun consumed Madeleine and Claudia.

Great review again. What a fantastic episode and what I loved the most was the score. Daniel Hart really went above and beyond this episode. I haven’t read any of the books but I think Armand was always going to save Louis anyway even if he had been sentenced to death in that trial. He would have used some last minute loophole to let only Louis off the hook. He wanted Claudia dead so he could have Louis to all to himself. He would have found some way to save him and then come off looking like the benevolent one. But the ever unpredictable Lestat beat him to it so what does a cunning opportunist like Armand do? He immediately improvised his plan on the spot. This was an even better storyline in his script. And would make Louis even more indebted and bonded to him. He even retold it as him straining to use all his powers and strength to save only Louis. I might be wrong though. Thanks again for the review.

Lestat had to choose between Claudia and Louis. He may have had the power to control the human crowd twice, but he wouldn't have been able to hide the trick from the vampires twice. As for Armand, IMO, if he hadn't manipulated Louis' memories, Louis may have figured out that Lestat was the one who saved him decades ago.

When Lestat saved Louis, Armand was forced to recalculate his revenge by turning Louis against lestat & keeping them apart. He knew loneliness is the only thing that could kill lestat & Louis was the only thing lestat cared about, & ultimately look where lestat ends up in a decaying husk of a house mirroring lestat’s last ~80 years w/o Louis. He didn’t know if Louis would ever return. He was living like Louis was when Claudia left in season one. I hope this will be a lesson for the both of them regarding relationships, but if you read the books Lestat cannot stay out of trouble. I don’t like what they did to Armand’s character in the finale. His actions in the finale completely contradict everything he’s done throughout the season. Not only did it hurt Armand’s characterization but Lestat’s. It felt like a cheap excuse for a twist from the writers. They should have just followed the book’s ending. Rolin Jones admitted the other writers weren’t initially on board with his decision to not follow the original book ending. Also I think they took away from Claudia being the emotional focus of the finale. The writing in the show was so good until the finale, it really felt like a step down. A lot of the moments in the finale didn’t feel earned. Weakest episode of the season and maybe of the whole show, in my opinion.

@@yvettelang1961 I’m not talking about Loumand being endgame. I know Louis is with Lestat and Armand is with Daniel. In the books, Armand does save Louis, that’s what I’m talking about. If Armand was okay with Louis dying, why didn’t Armand just kill him in the sewer when the Coven wanted that earlier in the season? Why did he rescue Louis out of the wall when the Coven was still around? Santiago was the true villain when it comes to the trial but the finale episode really takes away from that. Also, Lestat in the book really had no control over the situation regarding Claudia’s death, whereas in the show he has some power and controls the audience during the trial. It leaves the question of why didn’t Lestat save Claudia? Why did Lestat let Louis leave with Armand? Especially when they made it known Lestat is basically as powerful if not more powerful than Armand by him saying he has the blood of not just Magnus but Akasha. In that case, he could have saved Claudia. It makes it hard to understand Loustat’s reconciliation at the end of the episode. They made it more about Louis thanking Lestat for the dark gift when the loss of Claudia should’ve have been the main focus during this episode. Also, in the book, there was genuine love between Louis and Armand at some point during their relationship, whereas here the relationship is completely out of spite. It just doesn’t make any sense narratively. Also how are we supposed to root for Armand and Daniel when Armand made him out of spite towards Louis? It really takes out the complexity of Armand’s characterization who will do whatever he has to do to receive love. The almighty ancient and powerful Armand was just a passive bystander all along??? When previous episodes showed how powerful, badass, cold, and calculating he actually was? Armand controlled the whole Coven in the restaurant but didn’t do anything during the trial? Even though he’s more powerful than all of them? The writers instead made Armand into a doormat. Overall, it would have all made more sense for the loss of Claudia to overwhelm Louis and how yes, the idea that Armand could have saved Claudia, to get Louis to leave Armand and go back to NOLA. Also, it makes no sense why Louis is mentally okay and already content with himself when he just found out his partner of 7 decades wasn’t the person who saved him and actually was involved in Claudia’s execution. Realistically, he would have been in Kendall Roy-level trenches. This episode really contradicted so many decisions made during previous episodes.

I think it was all of those things. They all could have had a wonderful life if Louis hadn't been so selfish.
