I’m here for hater Bobbi 🙂↕️🙂↕️ I was super excited for the movie when the cast was announced but the more I heard about Emerald Fennell’s handling of it the more apprehensive I was. That woman gives me bad vibes for some reason 😗 I never ended up watching it but I’ve heard so many people talk about it that I feel like I have 😂 and yeah, I do feel like it very much wanted to be Emerald’s venture in class commentary but because she has no experience being working class, and she didn’t really want to shit on her own class too much, it didn’t really work 😂

I still say that this movie tried to take from the Talented Mr Ripley's nachos and failed but i had a ton of fun regardless! who doesnt like to witness rich people's downfalls 🙂↕️ (Edit: OH, im just realising you mentioned it too LMFAOOOO)

i hard agree! subsequent viewings make the ending twist fall apart even more honestly. it’d be a much better movie if it was just a campy flick about a sick little freak that got a little too gay about his friend. alas. also LOVE that you’re a fellow eternals truther!

Hey I just scanned over the sections of the video and I didn’t see anything about Return to Oz, do you have any comments regarding that? I feel it’s only fair to bring up seeing as it’s the first mainstream adaptation to get Dorthy’s age right, this carries over into Wicked where we see Dorthy as she’s portrayed in the books. A kid. Probably no connection but something interesting to think about.

i’m honestly shocked calvin and hobbes isn’t bigger for the same reasons as peanuts, calvin also talks a lot about adult issues and is very existential 😭 i guess it’s because there’s not calvin and hobbes merchandise allowed like there is for snoopy

Snoopy is awesome. He is lazy, aloof, cool, always forgets his owners name, a little bit selfish, imaginative, and he has several different personas. He is a world war I flying ace, hack writer, an attorney, etc. He has to escape to fantasy because being a dog is secretly kinda boring even though he brags about being a dog sometimes. Animated Snoopy is great but he is at his best in the comics. In the comics you can see more of hiss 3rd minesnions more ealily because you can read his thoughts.

I’ve talked about this issue with others and they thought I was exaggerating about the significance of 9/11. I didn’t grow up enough to acknowledge what happened (I was literally a year old) but look back at what life seemed like in the 90’s leading up to the tragedy, it almost seemed like the world stopped on that day.

I absolutely love Snoopy and I don’t like to gate keep anything but I’m so scared that he’ll become Sanriofied and ppl start acting crazy at Tj Max looking for Snoopy merch. I’ve always seen Snoopy everywhere like in Aeropostal, and American Eagle but it scares me seeing him all over tik tok bc it’s feeling like it’s not my algorithm anymore, but more of the overconsumption media

It’s been funny to see because I notice it too. I’m from Charles Schulz county and we have peanuts statues all over town dressed up. A Mexican taco truck plaza opened up and they have a mariachi snoopy. I tell people I grew up with snoopy that’s my boy.

Great video. Lots of insight. Fantastic costume yourself! When they talk about silver and white not "popping", I can't understand their logic. The white parts in Dorothy's costume looks so crisp and very beautiful on screen. And silver? The Tinman, whilst a horror in terms of health and safety looks incredible. On the flip side, I've never seen anything so insipid and lacklustre as Glinda's outfit.

Love this video! Just as a quick correction, the costume you showed for Elphaba in the musical (with all the layered colors) is her Act II dress, not her Defying Gravity dress. It is such a masterpiece and it weighs 40 pounds! In Defying Gravity, she is wearing a simpler black dress

Just an aside Jack Dawn was the creator of the makeup on The Wizard of Oz, while The Wiz makeup effects were created by Stan Winston, who also did The Terminator.

So interesting but I'm curious why you left out the title character of the Wizard, who appears in all three adaptations. Apparently, Frank Morgan in the 1939 film wore a vintage coat that originally belonged to L. Frank Baum (the book's author) although the costumers did not realize this until well into filming. From Richard Pryor's pajamas in "The Wiz" to tall Jeff Goldblum's flashy green Edwardian suit in the movie of "Wicked", the humbug wizard deserved to be included in your retrospect traced back to Denslow's illustrations.

Thank you for commenting and sharing this! Honestly, there was so much ground to cover so unfortunately I had to cut down parts of the script for the sake of brevity. However, that lives room for a second part in the future!

The wiz as a movie is an absolute tragedy compared to the wiz on stage. The wiz movie is awful, gritty, poorly filmed, and poorly cast. Live versions though are a whole vibe!

I loved hearing this in depth explanation of the costumes in various filmed Oz adaptions. Fashion and costuming aren't something I'm well versed in so this insight is much appreciated! I've recently rewatched the 1939 Wizard of Oz myself, and it occurred to me that in the technicolor Oz scenes there is almost no orange or purple to be seen in the costumes or sets. This seems significant to me is because orange and purple are next to red on the color wheel so the absence of those colors makes the red elements pop out that much more vividly even in the super colorful surroundings. I also noticed that at the end of the movie when the Wizard gave the Scarecrow a diploma, the Tin man a heart shaped pocket watch, and the Lion a medal of honor, all three of those props also contain a deep red matching Dorothy's slippers. This reiterates how all those items symbolically represent the ways in which all four characters contain what they were looking for within themselves the whole time.

While I agree that Elfaba's wardrobe does (in story) serve to "cover" her skin color, to stand out as little as possible, I believe it also serves as protection from water. I believe another (out of story) reason for her outfit is that the more skin covered by fabric is less skin that needs to be covered in green make-up.

As a millennial coworker to so many Zoomers I always found it kind of adorable that they all loved and know about Snoopy. For me, he was always one of those cartoons I watched with my parents and grandparents but never was a huge cultural (I actually still have my Snoopy and Woodstock baby pillow case). I'm glad to see a friendly lil guy has spanned generations and really is for the people - I get a lot of joy seeing people share all of the Snoopy shenanigans.
