Minority Nomad Hey I need your help as I know you get around Europe. So coming up on my 5th trip to Europe. A girl I met in Austria wanted to meet up in Venice for a romantic weekend. I have other locations to visit on 20 day stay. Whoever I'm 7 days from take off and the chick bails on me. From what I've read Venice isn't my cup of tea. To touristy but if I have to land there I guess I need to at least check it out for a half day. (Note; Never ever plan your travel plans around women.) So my question for you is: are there some other cities I can get to in a short time which has decent night life and not so expensive as Venice but still offer a unique experience? Keep in mind I plan on moving towards the east of Europe (Slovenia and Slovakia). So anything you can think of heading in that direction. I don't want to back track. Yo thanks in advance. Cheers! 🍻
@Minoritynomad7 жыл бұрын
+Demargo Smith hmmmm. Sucks that happened. Why the list of women I would travel for is VERY short. Lol. But make the best of it as it seems you are. Venice is ok. But alone, boringggggg. Are you looking for suggestions close to Venice or Europe in general? Like someplace to do after a day in Venice?

Well Italy is my home and I enjoy every city here so besides that I'd say Wroclaw, Gdansk, Bucharest, Athens, Kiev, Lisbon, Budapest, and Dusseldorf. Least favorite would be London, Paris, and Amsterdam.

London is a great choice. Long ago Samuel Johnson, who wrote the first English dictionary, said: "He who is tired of London is tired of life."
@lifeofnosocks36257 жыл бұрын
I'm from London and I've also been to Berlin, Stockholm and Budapest. I've lived in London most of my life and I wouldn't put it on this list, unless you're exclusively talking about summer. London is a depressing and imposing city that destroys your soul if you live there, except for in the summer, when it's an entirely different place. I've been to Berlin twice, both in winter and while it was fun, I didn't really see all the hype. It was crazy cold though, like -7C when I was there so that probably has something to do with it. I'd say that Copenhagen gave me the experience that I'd expected in Berlin. I also went to Budapest on that same trip and it was -10 to -15C, so needless to say I didn't really enjoy it. You should make a similar list but about places you've lived rather than visited, I think there's a massive difference between the two -- for example if I had just visited London in the summer, I'd probably love the city. I agree with you on Stockholm and on Swedish people -- I was actually shocked at how beautiful the city was on first sight.
@Minoritynomad7 жыл бұрын
It's all a matter of perspective and opinion of course. Had I made this video two years ago, London wouldn't be on the list. But my tastes have changed and certain aspects of the city as well. I don't know what to say about Berlin. I'm a flat out mark for that city. lol. If people only made list like this based on cities they've lived, these would be damn short videos. While I agree, living and visiting a place are two different things, I think it's unfair to dismiss someone's opinion of a place they've only visited. As long as that opinion is clarified in the context of being a traveler with limited time. Drives me crazy when people say they hate Bangkok and only spent two days there. But I understand the emotion behind it.
@lifeofnosocks36257 жыл бұрын
Haha true they would definitely be short. I've been thinking quite a bit about that lately as I just started working remotely and I'm making enough to potentially go anywhere. My first instinct is to just zip around the globe like a maniac, but then after thinking more I realised I'd rather live in X amount of places than visit X amount of places, if only for the deeper understanding and connection it can give you with the people, the culture and even yourself. So I guess now I have to decide what defines living in a place as opposed to just visiting? Is it time frame, or having official things like an address or bank account? Or a bit of both? I haven't quite figured it out.
@Minoritynomad7 жыл бұрын
+Life of No Socks that's something everyone needs to figure out for themselves. Too often people define their views based on the perception and beliefs of others. For someone going to Europe for the first time, and they want to visit the 3 most impressive European cities...my advice would be to check out London, Paris and Rome. London because, like New York, it has that buzz, that energy that never stops. It has so many iconic buildings and neighbourhoods. Brilliant museums, parks and pubs. The Beatles, James Bond, Jack the Ripper. Glorious grey and dreary weather. Love London. Paris because it is without a doubt the most beautiful city ever built. It is an artistic masterpiece on a massive scale. The city is a living, breathing work of art. Nothing like it on Earth. And Rome because it's the Eternal City. It's been there for so long, seen so much history that you can see and feel as you walk around, bumping into ruins that are thousands of years old. And the food and warm weather and the chaos of being Roman. London, Paris and Rome... The Top 3 European cities to visit. Then after that, it's a big toss up. Lisbon, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Seville, Venice, Porto, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, etc., etc., and so on. All are breathtakingly beautiful cities with so much to offer. You can't go wrong with any of them. The most beautiful cities in the world are European. No doubt about that.

There many cities in Europe that I like: Berlin, Hamburg, Hannover, Dresden, Leipzig, Munich, Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Luxembourg, Strasbourg, Basel, Copenhagen, Goteborg, Vienna, Bratislava, Sopron, London, Paris. Breslau. While there were no cities that I disliked, there were attractions, which I felt did not live up to their hype: Copenhagen - little mermaid (it is very little); Brussels - Manneken Pis - same thing; Rome, Brussels, Belgian trains in general - full of pickpockets; Salzburg - dishonest taxi drivers (and I speak German like a native); Cote d'Azur - unfriendly people.
+CNVideos wow. Didn't see Sofia coming. Lots of people love that place. I absolutely hated it. Need to get back to Dublin for extended time. It was always in and out.

My experience in Berlin was probably the worst out of all the cities I've visited. I did a solo trip (I'm a black female) for my birthday 2 years ago. Foreigners living there were great, but Germans, not so much. Stayed in a nice hotel in Charlottenburg, moving around was easy and cheap, food was ok. I met a guy from tinder who showed me around E-Berlin, he turned out to be kind of a jerk, maybe it was the german sense of humour that I didn't get. Probably won't go back for a few years, way over hyped anyway. Looking into taking a trip to Krakow in Aug, any tips ?
@Minoritynomad7 жыл бұрын
+ghanwin well I wouldn't judged Germans based on the people I met on Tinder. No offense to those that use Tinder. Lol. Kraków, not a lot to do outside of Holocaust history and drinking. I'm a history buff so works for me. Know some people find it boring.
@ghanwin7 жыл бұрын
Lol, of course not, that was just one of many instances that stood out in my mind. I've met Germans outside of Germany and even those encounters weren't all that great. I've always liked the language and will for sure visit another city at some point in time. I'm actually quite interested in WW2, so I wouldn't mind the history aspect of the trip, thanks anyway.

I regarded Amsterdam like I regarded San Diego: A major, "laid back" tourist hub that people really hype up, but is kind of a let down. (Yes, I'm calling both Amsterdam and San Diego let downs; I guess I'm weird.) There were several smaller Dutch cities I liked better. On the other hand, I regarded Berlin like I regarded Los Angeles: A city that isn't particularly tourist-friendly, a city that requires some research and effort to get to know, but ultimately very worth it. Also, I'm still surprised at what a good time I had in Vienna. I think it was the people I was with.
@Minoritynomad6 жыл бұрын
people you travel with and meet can make or break a trip for sure. I feel the exact opposite about LA and Berlin. I LOVE Berlin but absolutely hate LA. I'm there a couple times a year and it's a nightmare for me. Goes to show that not everywhere is for everyone as I like San Diego and Amsterdam a lot. Bangkok is another city that really isn't as tourist friendly as people think but has amazing gems.
@fromrighttoleft83286 жыл бұрын
You're right, it's about the people. I grew up in the po-dunk South and never thought I'd like LA, but, hey, it's my favorite mega-city in the USA. NYC and Chicago are nice to visit, but I'm ready to get out after 3-5 days. The people and vibe I've encountered in LA have made the difference for me, but I also generally avoid the whole west side/Hollywood BS--and that area makes many dislike the city. (By the way, LAX and John Wayne-OC airports seem to be mostly staffed by a-holes.) Unfortunately, my experience in San Diego was a combination of feeling very underwhelmed, meeting a lot of jerks, and experiencing a lot of poor customer service (but their airport staff are friendly). Bangkok interests me more than Chiang Mai, for the simple reason that Chiang Mai seems to have a higher per-capita concentration of fellow Westerners. If I'm going to venture out of Anglo/Western culture, I kind of want to do my thing amongst locals or a healthy mix of people from around the world. I ventured out solo in Fiji and it was so much more rewarding than going to the resorts (however, I learned that poorer Fijians aren't shy about using clever ways of begging for money from Westerners).
@Minoritynomad6 жыл бұрын
your last paragraph pretty much laid out why I HATE Chiang Mai. lol. I get in trouble with friends all the time that invite me to these ex pat meetups. I'm like I would stay my ass home if I wanted to be around a bunch of westerners all the time.

Hey, just discovered this channel. Will be checking out your other vids. I'm from England and it's interesting because I've found every capital city I've been to overrated...London, Copenhagen, Budapest, Amsterdam and Prague. Vienna is probably the only one that I enjoyed more than I thought I would. I think I'm just not a fan of cities in general, more a townie. Heidelberg in Germany, Mont-Saint-Michel in France and Leiden in The Netherlands are a few of my favourites.

mehhhhhh. I just left and things are quickly changing. not sure how much longer it can survive overtourism.
@antifax84345 жыл бұрын
the problem is mass tourism, the authorities of Barcelona must regulate quickly if they want this beautiful city never to go out of fashion.
