Mark, I love your videos and have been watching your content for years. In Portugal, when you went to the restaurant "O Rei dos frangos" in the city of Guya, you didn't expect to be given a pass or to save time in the hour-long queue. You simply asked for the 10-minute 'takeaway' option and happily set off to eat your meal in the parking lot with your family. Your videos not only have great content, but your attitude and character are also very pleasant. You're super famous, you have over 10 million followers on KZbin and you're probably one of the most down-to-earth people out there. I'm from the 'O Teodosio' family and what you said is so true "small front shop, small humble origins", it was created by my uncle (mom's brother that passed away way too soon), the Restaurant's old part (small front side where you were waiting) was actually my grandfather's house that my uncle turned into the Restaurant and as you said; it comes from humble/poor origins. One thing I was happy to see as someone that comes from the culture is: eating with your hands (as you should), it is way tastier to eat with your hands and the right way to do it! Fun fact: I don't know if you noticed the car pictures in the waiting hall but they are from the son of the owner that races in Rally and is the current National Rally Champion.

Great video! Thank you Mark for several reasons: 1. This wasn't about ordering 50 plates of food and see how you can munch away as much as possible. 2. You chose humble, simple but delicious food that anyone can afford. 3. For putting, once again Portugal on the food map! I have lived in Portugal for almost 6 years, speak the language fluently, skipped only 1 year to date that I didn't visit Portugal since 1994, and it is my favourite country in terms of food (and wines, don't forget about those please). Nowadays, living in Holland again, I always go to Lisbon for my birthday and in summer for a holiday (usually the North) and in terms of food, it is very hard to beat. Sure, I go to Italy for work at least 3 times a year, and I do enjoy it there, but the Portuguese have something special. No other country I have visited, has restaurants that offer fresh grilled fish and meat every day, in simple traditional restaurants where Mum cooks and Dad serves the food. Next time you intend to visit Portugal, please consult me, because you are yet to try Porco Preto or Salchichas Frescas or Moeleas Estufados, and frankly speaking, apart from the grilled fishes, they are as much signature dishes as is the Frango Assado. Saúde Mark! Cheers!

If you are ever able, the 1st Weekend of August New Bedford, MA, USA has the biggest Portuguese Feast in the World, (Madeira Feast). You will be in heaven, huge fire pit, Madeira Wine, Malassadas, and tons of Grandma food. It screams Mark Wiens.

@@SenorFischmann Why not? I'm portuguese and am mighty curious. Emigrants tend to preserve traditions fiercely.

You should have gone to Mozambican Chiveve Restaurant in Lisbon, they have the very best chicken in Portugal. It's called Zambeze Chicken and it's marinated with garlic, lemon juice, gloves, piri-piri and coconut milk. The marinade is then turned into sauce, which is served with the grilled chicken.

The food you have been sampling is "simple", "uncomplicated", "Clean", "original". It is not overly complicated and pretentious. That makes for some of the most enjoyable food as I have found over time, during my travels. I am sure you have found the same :)
