I believe it hints that Maximus’ suit fixed it. They keep referring to his suit having some sort of tempered lining that improves mobility, but there was also something else Lucy was about to mention when she saw the suit but she got cut off before she could bring it up. I kind of assumed that the tempered welding was likely the after-market fix to that issue.

He instantly calls him out on not knowing how to pilot it, and then proves it by dismantling the armour without even needing to shoot and kill Maximus. The Ghould doesn't give a shit about Maximus and whether he lives or dies, he just does it for the love of the game as he mentions in the first episode. This also allows the Ghoul to prove to us that he knows the T60 and it's weaknesses, rather than just telling us at the end in final fight before taking on those knights. So no, it's not bad writing. It's actually quite a good example of show don't tell.

Enclave Hellfire is my fav. It’s completely blacked out, has good stats, and it doesn’t burn through cores fast. Also highly customizable
