You guys trying to neutral drop it becuase “it has no transmission” was a real bug brain move lol. This is the latest generation of the Honda hybrid system. It’s still just removed from the accord though. And Weber auto has a good breakdown of how these Honda hybrid systems work. Yes they do mainly just use the engine as a generator. So it’s only spinning a motor to generate electric which goes to the battery and traction motor to turn the wheels. BUT there is still a direct connect to the wheels for what we consider 6th gear on the manual, or Overdrive on an old school auto. It does this over 60-70mph in many scenarios. And as far as the cvt function goes I can and does have different ratios thanks to meshed gears in the transmission that go from the generator motor to the traction motor. There are three functioning modes for the transmission. It’s a very cool system. But it does in fact still have a transmission. Thankfully Honda foresaw someone trying to neutral drop it and programmed it to not be possible lol.
@robertMSP194 ай бұрын

@marcinmerrimack17264 ай бұрын
@roochiecooch Does the traction motor still contribute to the power in “direct connect” mode or is it only the engine itself powering the car then?
@pi.actual4 ай бұрын
@@marcinmerrimack1726 From what I've seen (Weber Auto video) there is no way for the traction motor to disconnect from the wheels so I would imagine that in "direct connect" mode it is given enough power to at least make it's mass neutral in effect. But the system controller is pretty sophisticated and I think it's going to provide whatever it determines is the best combination to get the car to do what you're asking it to do.
@marcinmerrimack17264 ай бұрын
@@pi.actual Ok, thanks for your answer. Makes sense. I should have a look at the Weber videos. The ‘concern’ I have is that at highway cruising speeds, the Civic Hybrid power train relies solely on a 2L engine. My Accord has the K24 2.4L and is able to give me some punch if I want it especially if I downshift. Of course whether the traction motor can actually assist or is just made ‘mass neutral,’ the power required for that would have to be diverted from the engine itself or be supplied (for a very limited time) from the battery. Would be nice to know what exactly happens at highway speeds.
@pi.actual4 ай бұрын
@@marcinmerrimack1726 I have owned the sedan for over a month now and have done a number of road trips. At speeds below 80 mph it will still go into full EV mode running off battery and engine shut off. Above 80 mph I have not seen it do that. But even above 80 if I punch it I can still feel the torque so it is obviously not relying solely on the engine. The best way I can describe the system is that it is totally seamless. It drives so much like a normal car, even the simulated shifts, you wouldn't know just by the feel of it.

@KNRS9274 ай бұрын
@@TheStraightPipesthing is, it isn’t really base Camry vs top trim civic for US pricing. We recently got an XLE Camry, no options, for less OTD as Honda dealers wouldn’t budge price wise.

@@Tigerex966 i feel most hybrid buyers don’t care about driving dynamics like we do. They just want a Point A to B reliable car that’ll run forever, which the Camry is. And most families probably will appreciate the bigger backseat, bigger usable trunk behind the seats, better ride, and better value. Plus it isn’t a bad car if you need one do-everything car. It’s like I say, if this was 29k-31k, I’d buy it in a heartbeat. That’s Corolla/elantra pricing and this destroys them. But 33k against bigger, nicer cars, idk.

As someone who drives a 2021 Honda Insight EX with just a little over 40,000 miles, I really like this one. That being said, idk if it will be worth it for me to trade in for it since its only a slight upgrade with hatchback space and a bit more range. Plus the Insight has a 10.3gal fuel tank size that still gets me 496 miles of range. I would totally go for it if I didn't already have an Insight with more than half the loan paid off...that and it only cost me $26k msrp before TL&F.

I like most of it. I don't like that it doesn't have vents at the back and the back pocket behind the driver seat. Also the price is high. I still wish there were analog gauges in cars. Could you get them to make manual hybrid?

I plan to buy this car, drive it myself for the next 3 years and then give it to my daughter when she turns 16. She’ll have a lightly used, safe, modern car that I won’t care too much about when she inevitably bangs it up.

Not currently in the market for a car, but if I was, I'd be buying this. Every sub-midized sedan, hatch, and SUV up and down the entire market should be scared of this car. Interior is better looking and more ergonomic than everything except for Porsches, fuel efficiency of a Prius, impressive hatch space, and rear seat headroom that beats most small SUVs. As someone who has lived in a very snowy climate, the only thing this car lacks is AWD, but that isn't necessary for 95% of people in North America.

Should I get this or a 2024 Prius (non-Prime) Limited? I usually prefer Honda over Toyota but the Prius has all the bells and whistles (360 cam, ventilated seats, mirror camera).

Thanks for demonstrating the difference between the fake engine sound between modes.
@wallace-bv4rl3 ай бұрын
I may be the only one but I don’t believe the sound is fake. It’s piped in more in sport but it’s always there. There’s no gearbox so as the charging motor and electric motor realise how hard the acceleration (and fast power drain) then the engine throttles up in stages to provide more power. The staged revving is faking gears but it is real staged increase in revs for a real purpose. My opinion based on 6,000 miles. Virtually no one can review this car’s drivetrain correctly

Civic eHEV hatch is a good car that is balanced and energy efficient. If you have the chance, be sure to test drive yourself.

Maybe I'm getting old, but test drove one of and I have to say that if you like hearing road noise/tire noise this is a car for you. Maybe it wasn't that bad but after getting out of my Altima and getting into this, the honda felt small and cheap.

Have engine design & tolerances gotten so good that oil weights are dropping every year? Wow 0W-20. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have a 2012 Subaru & it recommends 5W-30 or 0W-20Syn. Of course being a 12yrs old car it has it's issues but I specifically remember the Oil Temp light coming on during a very long drive. The mechanic said the oil is too thin thus allowing overheating. Since then [3yrs] I have been putting 10W-30 & never seen the Oil Temp Light again even in a few hard drives. [You got an oil sponsor now, so should fit right in.]
