The difference is in penetration between a thin hook and a thick hook and the weight. I use Gamakatsu Octopus circles off the beach and rocks and hold the rod. They're a thin hook, and I sharpen them if I have to. I can feel the bite, give a bit of slack , and then let the hook do it's job. I'm hooking the fish in a different way. I'd never use those thick, heavy circles. Circles stop the fish getting pricked. A thin hook is lighter and gets inhaled easier. Dad used to use really thin wire sliced shank Mustads and 15lb mono handlines because we just hooked more fish. Inshore bottom bashing. I think that it was for the reasons above.
