If you have bad eyesight like I do, I recommend saving up the extra cash to start straight away with the DJI digital system. I just started using it last week, and it's the best purchase I've ever made since starting this hobby 3 years ago. I've never enjoyed flying as much as I do now. I didn't want to like it as much as I do, but it is what it is. Great suggestions here Stew, thank you.

I just did this. Started from scratch. Waited till I could afford DJI goggles and decided on the crossfire Tango 2 radio. 150% I am so thankful I did not waste my time with anything else. Every day I am amazed with the quality and feel of the DJI goggles and Tango 2 radio. If your starting from scratch, it’s a hard decision to upgrade to DJI and crossfire later. So invest a little more now and buy once. Also portability of a small case with a tango 2 is a major thing! Also, forget a GoPro or other camera for now. Use the DJI air unit or Caddx goggle video recording until you improve a lot. At that point save up for a GoPro hero 8 black. I have the GoPro already. But 90% of the time, I know that my “learning” video is simply not worth running the gopro. Especially with damage risk. So I watch the amazing caddx / DJI goggle footage very happily while I am learning to fly smoothly. It’s more than good enough. My 2c

Couldnt agree more. I personally like my dji tx too, mostly becuase it just makes things sooooo much easier for me. However, there is no doubt that having crossfire is a plus. The biggest turn off and pain in the ass in this hobby is 100 percent hands down shitty analog video components. Going to digital was far and away the single best decision ive yet to make in this hobby.

I have literally spent the past 8 weeks watching hundreds of KZbin videos learning about FPV drones. I went with a Tango 2 pro, and DJI digital goggles. I ended up spending just over $1500 to get started. My first frame comes on Monday and then I should finally be able to build my first drone. I didn't buy a gopro or mount yet. After some practice I will buy one and post some videos of me crashing the drone.

Excellent recommendations. But I would go with 6S quad and lipos (1100mAh CNHL Black Series). They may be a little more expensive so you could pick 5 lipos instead of 6 for the 800 dollar budget but 6S is a) more fun and b) more future proof. Gadgets I regret buying: Cheap frames with aluminium parts that bend and cannot be bent back and the iSDT lipo discharger. Gadgets I absolutely love: TS100, AOK Cellmeter 8 with 150W discharging bulbs, Antennenfreund double quad goggle antenna, Vifly Finder 2, Ummagrip, Beitian BN220T GPS on all 5" quads.

@@LightsCameraandLego Definitely a Toothpick. Batteries are cheaper and it is just easier to get a lot of stick time (in the backyard, parks, playgrounds, anywhere) which is essential for beginners. With a decent radio and goggles you can upgrade to a 5 inch later anytime. An Eachine Twig would be a good candidate imo.

Great breakdown, covered all the bases! Personally after a year in the hobby, I opted for DJI goggles. Out of the price range for $800, but digital is most definitely the future. Analog I think the Skyzone is right no question, but without other pilots in my area, the lost social aspect is moot, and the option to go analog is available. The only tidbit I'd add is don't fly with a GoPro to start! Excess weight, your DVR and the joy of free flight is just as good to start. Speaking of starting, and budget I think software like LiftOff is a must. You can get stick time early while waiting for the non controller buys to come in, especially if you wait for sales or quality buys, so when you actually fly, you don't break on the first pack but your last one, where you'll then have a trainer to practice as your new arms come in!

I'm exactly at this point, what a great video and at the exact perfect moment! I just got my TBS tango 2 and doing tutorials on the sim at the moment. I went straight to the Tango 2 because of the size and the protocol won't be a problem for me since I'm not planning to own a lot of quads, one or two and I get the great range as a plus. I'm doing my reasearch on the goggles and it seems these are the way to go for my price point.

My other, tyro 79 emax 1507 hak 20A 4 in 1 stock f4 fc akk 600mw. Better equipment is always worth it. No flip of death, lost signals or inconsistant behavior. I use an old vr pro box goggles because budget at first but found them to have great reception, comfort and a DVR so they work for me. Transmitter/receiver is a modded flysky i6 running 10 channel firmware and the fly14+ because it's small and light with rssi out and decent reception. That 16s is on the list as the next upgrade tho. So far nothing but good things about it. Curious about it's short comings.

Considering there's the entry level equipment that suit a budget best, the more expensive equipment will mean a better quality overall production? Plus going for an FPV with blade protectors I think is a very good idea. The DJI Mavic 2 Pro seems to be more or less the same price as an Avata. Am I not a bit ambitious here for a newbie?

I do recommend the aomway hd588 10" monitor but because the internal battery dies after like two flights.. get an external one . Other than that I did like it haven't tried box goggles but it was similar price to eachine 800d but now I have an extra monitor

My starting kit would have to be stew’s 2017 or 2018 build the eachine wizard X220 with an aftermarket runcam 5 and the flysky remote with the eachine ev800d goggles (FYI if you wanna run crossfire get a better remote controller)

Great advice. I like CNHL batteries but I would also take a look at Ovonic batteries which are also very good in a similar price range when on sale.

I wore out My tx16s gimbals in less than 2 months! Put new springs in and a month later shot again. Waiting on radiomaster to see if they'll replace on warrenty but daily driving tx16s even will hall gimbals isn't feasible it just wears out so fast.

What camera and Transmitter would you suggest for a RC plane? After playing with quadcopters I'm ready to get back and make my own RC plane to fly ,but I have no idea how to apply FPV to it. Any advice would be appreciated or just a suggestion to put me on the right path.

Loved this. Is there any way you would do the same thing with a slightly higher budget for a digital version?

Let me preface my comment by saying that I have a spending problem. I jumped in with both feet and got the Mr Steele 6s Apex kit and enough extra parts for a whole nother drone (not the pre-assembled one), the ORQA goggles w/rapidfire, I already had a Qx7 but I added hall gimbals, and full sized crossfire module. Admittedly, I fly my brushless acrobee more haha.

ironically i never gave two craps bout drones but yesterday I got gifted a lil cheap Deerc D10 drone which is like... super cheap but I greatly appreciate the gift cause it's my first-ever drone, and now I am looking at all kinds of different drones like the DJI Mavic mini 2 for amazing aerial shots of nature and places where I don't really take decent shots with and looking at fpv drones of just that rush and community. really thinking though that if I get into this fpv stuff, would I have to register it to the FAA due to weight limitations? hmm... maybe there is a nano fpv drone line...

This sounds good. I'm new to fpv but I would prefer a decent camera in lieu of a gopro attached. What would you recommend? I'm also wondering how long each of the batteries each last for per charge?
@JP-qq2kn

Batteries last about 5 min give or take a bit depending on how you fly. Cruisin you get longer flights, punchouts drain batteries faster.

I would also recommend getting a 5000 mah, 6s battery to do some field charging. They go on sale from hobby king some times, I got mine for 35 usd. It turns my 4, 4s packs into 12 packs!

Hey all, I have been flying DJI photo drones in the past 6 years. I just came across your great video on FPV drone from under $300 2019. If I was looking to mix and match from that one to this one, could I still use the TX16S and the sky zones with the Nazgul5 then, at a later date add to 5-in drone? I am a good flyer, for more along the lines of driving Miss Daisy as opposed to Mario andretti. Thanks for the great content looking forward to viewing more

Honestly for a complete beginner that is not sure yet of his commitment, I would suggsest a whoop kit... Especially for a safety aspect. A 5'' is really dangerous without proper knowledge. On the other hand, if you are sure that you want to produce footage, go ahead and follow this tutorial but be patient with yourself. It's not an easy hobby
