I just did this. Started from scratch. Waited till I could afford DJI goggles and decided on the crossfire Tango 2 radio. 150% I am so thankful I did not waste my time with anything else. Every day I am amazed with the quality and feel of the DJI goggles and Tango 2 radio. If your starting from scratch, it’s a hard decision to upgrade to DJI and crossfire later. So invest a little more now and buy once. Also portability of a small case with a tango 2 is a major thing! Also, forget a GoPro or other camera for now. Use the DJI air unit or Caddx goggle video recording until you improve a lot. At that point save up for a GoPro hero 8 black. I have the GoPro already. But 90% of the time, I know that my “learning” video is simply not worth running the gopro. Especially with damage risk. So I watch the amazing caddx / DJI goggle footage very happily while I am learning to fly smoothly. It’s more than good enough. My 2c

Couldnt agree more. I personally like my dji tx too, mostly becuase it just makes things sooooo much easier for me. However, there is no doubt that having crossfire is a plus. Excellent recommendations. But I would go with 6S quad and lipos (1100mAh CNHL Black Series). They may be a little more expensive so you could pick 5 lipos instead of 6 for the 800 dollar budget but 6S is a) more fun and b) more future proof. Gadgets I regret buying: Cheap frames with aluminium parts that bend and cannot be bent back and the iSDT lipo discharger. Gadgets I absolutely love: TS100, AOK Cellmeter 8 with 150W discharging bulbs, Antennenfreund double quad goggle antenna, Vifly Finder 2, Ummagrip, Beitian BN220T GPS on all 5" quads.

Great breakdown, covered all the bases! Personally after a year in the hobby, I opted for DJI goggles. Out of the price range for $800, but digital is most definitely the future. Analog I think the Skyzone is right no question, but without other pilots in my area, the lost social aspect is moot, and the option to go analog is available. The only tidbit I'd add is don't fly with a GoPro to start! Excess weight, your DVR and the joy of free flight is just as good to start. Speaking of starting, and budget I think software like LiftOff is a must. You can get stick time early while waiting for the non controller buys to come in, especially if you wait for sales or quality buys, so when you actually fly, you don't break on the first pack but your last one, where you'll then have a trainer to practice as your new arms come in!

Wish I heard about this when I was in Australia. Bangood does not ship to Nz and we have 1 shop that will ship a drone and control for over $600 compare to other countries.

Hey all, I have been flying DJI photo drones in the past 6 years. I just came across your great video on FPV drone from under $300 2019. If I was looking to mix and match from that one to this one, could I still use the TX16S and the sky zones with the Nazgul5 then, at a later date add to 5-in drone? I am a good flyer, for more along the lines of driving Miss Daisy as opposed to Mario andretti. Thanks for the great content looking forward to viewing more

Honestly for a complete beginner that is not sure yet of his commitment, I would suggsest a whoop kit... Especially for a safety aspect. A 5'' is really dangerous without proper knowledge. On the other hand, if you are sure that you want to produce footage, go ahead and follow this tutorial but be patient with yourself. It's not an easy hobby

Would you recommend a radio that is capable of plugging into a PC so you can do sim practice?

I just bough the TX16S with Crossfire for less than £200, unbelievable package when I think what my first radio cost (a Spektrum DX6i £218), albeit that was 8yrs ago.
