Started trainging in sims a month ago, and thats exact the thing i understood - if the gates to tight to you, don't rage-quit, just fly over them keeping as close as possible over them to the best line, further skills will come a little later. Other tips for those who have not yet stocked up on their five-inch or is just a misanthrope(or like me - just like the process of flying itself wherever it happens): train in at least two simulators at once, yes, drones and rates will have to be configured at least similar to experience a minimum of pain, but re-accustoming between them is the moment when your brain absorbs the most information about how control feels. Freestyle is good, but the best lap time is a great incentive for your fingers to twitch a little more correctly and quickly. At the very beginning, learning is hampered by the monotony of turns of simple routes - just stop flying as the developers intended, and fly everything efficiently in the opposite direction, this will give you a more consistent experience. If one of the sections is going very poorly compared to the others, forget about the timer, go back, and start flying it better and better. The key is the joy of the process of flying itself. Cheers!

what neil said in the beggining was spot on. iv been flying for 4 years now. i consider myself a good freesytle pilot. i just raced for the first time a couple weeks ago and did horrible. i had a blast but was surprised how much harder it was to get clean lines than i thought it would be. i wanted to start my racing endeavors last year but covid lock downs messed that up. i now have built some gates and plan to continue practicing .

Thank you ! and yes, the race director needs to be careful creating the heats, and but the slower people together, faster people together. Worst thing can possibly do, is put a beginner with an experienced racer, because when lapping someone, very high increase in chance of midair. I have been there, Limon has midair' me out of the air many many times. Back when i started, he used to fly a russian designed frame that had a metal cage. It was like a giant truck just smashing everyone left and right.

Great video, I have been getting into it and I definitely waited too long to go and race. Hope this video makes more people realize that. Once I got to my first race like 6 months ago I found it was way less frustrating breaking all my shit when there are some homies to BS with. Think I learned more in a couple months than I had in 5 years of RC tinkering. All the guys in our local chapter are super laid back and helpful.

RATES (533) and CAMERA ANGLE (40-50). Fly slooowww to learn the course and fly slooowww through the gates to get as tight a line as possible. You'll get faster with practice, but you have to learn the lines first.

Hey Jon great video! I'm kind of a new pilot (started last April) and I would love to get involved in something like this. Trouble is in my area (cedar rapids, IA) I can't seem to find any groups or organizers. Do you know of any resources that help people find groups like yours ?

Hey Jon, liking the videos. how do I .....find races in my area? Is there like a website that lists like local racing chapters ...or? I am in Michigan and would like to bring my quad out to some races in the spring but don't really know where to start.
@JonE5FPV4 жыл бұрын
Easiest is to search your town (or nearby) + FPV in fb and see if they have a group. Some organize there. Some on discord. But we have fb groups in our town. Multiple. Go there and ask how to find out the racing schedule, and where to start.

noob here trying to understand the track, which way to go around, through loop or the gates. Pointers? All I have is a heavy Source One. What is a tough HDzero/amalog build or bind to learn on?
@JonE5FPV2 жыл бұрын
We learn the track during a track walk where we physically walk around it to learn it. Then there is usually 1-2 track Fly's where 1 person flys the track by themselves and everyone watches in their goggles to learn it. Learning tracks is a skill in itself, i used to struggle a lot with that, but simulator practice on racing tracks helps a lot. For HDzero racing, in town we use the Open Racer. There is a special HDzero pod that joe momma uses. Or you can also use the lighter HDzero 533 switchback edition.

I've only been flying since March please elaborate on don't plug in
@MrSabram074 жыл бұрын
And where can I find races
@JonE5FPV4 жыл бұрын
When you plug in when other people are flying your video transmitter will start broadcasting your quads video. If your channel is close to what they are flying, they may start seeing image from your quad instead of theirs. Causing them to be blind and lose control. That is why there is always cordination of channels and we fly in groups of 4-8 at a time with a combination of channels known to work with each other without issues. Never plugging is always the rule unless it’s your turn
@MrSabram074 жыл бұрын
@@JonE5FPV so let me see if I got this straight, if you show up to a race you have your drone in your hand you literally cannot turn it on, is that correct? Unless it's your turn at the starting line, or do you have to disconnect your VTX. And thanks for your reply

Also, if you can, bring more than one quad that works. Crashes happen, and it's a lot harder to break two of the exact same part, so odds are way more than doubled that you can have more crashes and still be able to fly.
