The latest update for S1: So after the rightly deserved bollocking you gave me in the last post, you’ll be happy to learn that Ailie and me aren’t talking anymore, and it’s probably for the best. Eliza and me received the condolences hamper in the post and it was primarily … soaps. Not in the sense of fragrant body lotions or luxury packages, or even organic bars … just regular, run-of-the-mill soaps. There were two dispensers that were faintly rose scented but it was so mild you had to really look for it. There were several white soap bars that didn’t smell of anything, really, it was so confusing. The only items that suggested it was a proper gift basket were a £6 bottle of Chardonnay and a box of Roses chocolates that looked a fair deal more effort than the cleaning equipment at the nearest pub. The weirdest item though? A pair of women’s underpants. Not lingerie, not anything lacy or risqué, like - just a plain pair of white pants. They were actually kind of grubby, there was a faint orange lining on them. It just didn’t make sense to me because if they were meant to be for Eliza, they were at least six sizes too big. And if Ailie really WAS making a move on me, they were again around six sizes too big - also, why would she choose such disgusting pants to try and “seduce” me? It weirded me out so much I rang up Ailie, asking why I had soap and grubby knickers in our condolences hamper. She kept making dry remarks to her husband about there being a strange noise on the other end of the phone. I didn’t get anywhere with her and insisted that Ewan should talk to me instead because getting anywhere with her was like pulling teeth at this rate. After some disgruntled remarks, she passed the phone over. Ewan asked what was up and I explained the whole situation. He was momentarily surprised when I described the hamper as looking like the luggage of a janitor that lived under a bridge. He said that it was a small package, but there should have been several luxury gifts that weren’t simply sanitary items. Apparently there was a bottle of Chardonnay, a bottle of Shiraz, one box of Rose chocolates, a Lindt bar, a selection of crackers and some assorted cheeses. Somehow that got replaced with leftover soaps bought in bulk and his Y-fronts that Ailie found ever so hilarious and apparently found ever so hilarious to send to my wife. He was hugely apologetic and embarrassed, stating that he’d pay us the cost towards the lost items. I was raging at this point but I tried to be collected and said “right, let me talk to Ailie again please” and he got her on the line. I told her that she had the chance to make it right and she blew it, and she groaned and told me that Eliza’s jealousy has crippled our friendship and she was sick of having to flatter her insecurities. I said no, you ARE Eliza’s insecurities and we rowed for a bit. Eventually it ended with me saying that this had been building up for a while and that her attitude had been giving Eliza grief for years. Ailie said “none of this would be happening if Eliza knew how to take a joke” and I just told her that a joke isn’t ruining her wedding dress and then sending her your husband’s stinky Y-fronts. She said I sold out my principles for a girl who’s threatened by other women. After the phone call Eliza was not so much hurt as she was confused at first, because she was wondering if there was a mix-up until I explained to her the “joke”. She seemed pretty much resigned to the idea that Ailie would always be a shit, and I told her the likelihood of that happening was very slim considering she’s cut me off for standing up for her. I think the counselling has made us stronger and in a weird way I’m glad this happened. Because if your friendship falls apart the moment you try to protect your loved ones, then they probably weren’t that strong friendships at all. Shame I won’t be speaking to Ewan from now on, he’s a top lad.

I live in an engineering brick semi detached house with concrete floors, so built to withstand a bomb blast, but every day I heard what I can only describe as someone loudly lugging a wardrobe around and dropping it. The family next door were violent, we had been assaulted by them before because we put fairy lights on our house, so I couldn't ask but eventually worked it out that they were yanking an anti slip mat with suckers out of the bath on the adjoining wall, then slapping over the bath to stick, rather than easing it up carefully like I'd do. He complained about me switching on the switch for my bedroom lamp, saying it was "slamming plugs in". He complained about us taking a shower after or before work as he felt our hours were an "unsuitable time" yet i had to be woken up by his wardrobe moving sounding bath mat. We werent allowed to clean the house or mow the lawn but his family having friends over for a barbecue with raucous laughter, a large group of screaming kids and loud music which was still going on at 1AM, right under our bedroom window, on a warm night where you needed the window ajar, was "enjoying life", even though I was working the next day and my father was end of life hospice care at the time, so I needed to get some sleep. He didnt work for most of the time next door, so didn't have the same time constraints as we did and so was inconsiderate of others who did. They screamed at the kids all the time, loudly enough that I could hear every word over at the opposite end of the landing, and the person on the phone with my partner asked who was in the house yelling. We were banned from doing anything after 7pm despite it being legal to do most things after work and were often prevented from leaving the street - its a cul de sac with him on the was the entrance/exit side of the road - allowing the kids to put their ride on toys in the road and play on them then leave them there, but would thrw a wobbly with threats if we were to want to or try to move them. He gave the lead of his lurcher to the youngest child once then kicked the untrained dog hard in the ribs when it took off and pulled the child over. The dogs have badly injured more than one animal in the village before he moved. We were told we could not do anything and were not to defend ourselves if assaulted, as he was "disabled" (he wasn't - he was fitter than I am and my late husband was an amputee.) and we would be the ones in trouble even though he was the instigator. My point is, strange things that sound quiet in your home can often be amplified & be loud when they travel through the walls and if you couple that with an unreasonable person like we had, its miserable. This guy in the story probably IS hearing stuff that is loud at his side but are actually incongruous on OPs side. If he's not feeling well or stressed, it likely makes him more irritable than usual and generally angry at life, which OP could be the unwitting target of. He may not have wanted to move but had to. Any number of reasons, that aren't OPs fault but are contributing to him being bad tempered. Thankfully in my case, the guy moved and the entire atmosphere of the road changed. Everyone gets on with and helps everyone else now, my new neighbours are lovely, I never hear them apart from a window banging around 5am when their cat goes out, which I've taught myself to sleep through, and they don't hear me either. Then again neither of us are looking for anything to complain about either. The one tine I did need to do something noisy they instantly messaged me, but not to complain, they wanted to check I was alright and wasn't knocking for help. One thing I would say to this op though, is there have been cases where people have snapped and killed a neighbour over noise or being bothered by them, so you have to factor in any threat level the person may be to you, even if you feel you're in the right abd they're being unreasonable. People can do irreversible, irrational things when they're angry. I winder if it's worth op truing to befriend the guy a bit, even though she can't stand him, maybe offering to fetch groceries if he's under the weather from his treatment to cook an extra portion of food when she's making for herself. Such things can go a long way in unruffling feathers. It didn't work in our case, even though I saved his child from being badly cut from playing with broken glass, he just carried on as before, but it might work in this case.

I don’t get why people complain and make everybody else’s lives miserable because they hate living in an apartment. If you don’t want to hear overhead noise, then either don’t live in an apartment or move to the top floor! Noise is part of apartment living. The only time I would get upset is if the neighbors were having an extremely loud party late at night. I had an older lady move into the apartment above us when my boys were younger. She started complaining because she said my kids were jumping off their bunk bed and making loud sounds, all whilst she sat in her car (during late afternoon hours) and watched my kids through the bedroom window. Never had a complaint until she moved in, so maybe the problem was her. My husband even helped the UPS guy carry a “treadmill” up the stairs to put outside her door (before the complaints started) and wished he hadn’t helped after all, just let the driver leave it at the bottom of the stairs and let her figure out how to get it up to her apartment! Want to buy a machine to pound away on, but have the audacity to complain about my kids playing in their room…during the day.🤦🏼♀️ Some people just can’t be pleased and have no business living around others!

Story 2, i wonder if neighbor is having auditory hallucinations? When I get them they're usually loud bang like sounds and its really hard to tell what direction they're coming from (duh because they're not actually coming from anywhere lol)

S1: are people really that clueless? If even ONE interaction caused my fiancee to cry, friend would be sat down and read the riot act. OP should not have gotten married, or even dated, until he sorted out his feelings for Ailie. Or get together with her again. You can make sarcastic remarks to one another, all day. After comments: oh, he'd be "really hurt" if Eliza was deliberately tormenting Ailie. Aww, poor thing. He just "doesn't get" so much.

Story 2, especially if you’re in the UK: RE talking to the police officer, he doesn’t want to do paperwork. They do not want to have to show up. They are telling you things indirectly to make you not push the burden onto them to come out and write reports. Do not, ever, make it easy for them not to do their job.

Story 2 OP should get one of those sleep recording apps and record the noise in her apartment that he's complaining about.

Story 1: She did it on purpose. Hubs (Ewan) is a good guy for trying to smooth it over, but I think Aillie was being a see you next Tuesday.

Story 1: Who needs enemies when you have a SO like OP...

Rule of thumb.....Guys... if you have a female best friend and "true" BFF they would not behave this way. There will never be instances of your significant feeling this way EVER IF your BFF is REALLY your friend. Your SO if your priority. Period...and your so-called BFF will understand it, accept it AND promote it.
