I had a similar experience in 7th grade, I got really close to a girl in theatre class. She was spontaneous, funny, beautiful, and had an amazing sense of humor. I had the biggest crush on her for a year, but different to this KZbin video I never confessed my feelings because I didn’t think she felt the same.. 7th grade comes close to being over and I get the news that my family is moving away. I tell all my friends, and eventually tell the girl I had grown close with. The last day of me being at school before I moved I’m walking back to my locker with my good friend/crush as we had done a million times before. She stops and turns to me and says: “Why didn’t you ever ask me out? I was waiting that whole time.” Damn, hit me like a bag of bricks. I had no idea that she reciprocated those feelings for me and always thought she just saw me as a friend. My lack of being transparent about my feelings left me with a sense of regret for a long time afterwards. Moral of the story, even if you fear being rejected, always say what’s on your heart and mind. Because if you don’t take those chances in life then you’ll be left with a feeling of regret and you’ll never know how they feel in return. 👍

4:11 this is a great point. Anyone in a true friendzone would appreciate the friendship. See the value in it. It might still be hard to stay friends after confessing, sure you might fantasize about getting more intimate. But I'd like to believe in most cases you can stay friends after letting the person know.

We can. A guy told me he liked me, we'd been friends for 3 years, and I just never liked him like that. We're still good friends, still talk every day. I knew for a while before he said it that he liked me, and I'm glad he told me, because it was difficult knowing without knowing. I think him telling me took a weight off of both of us.

Meanwhile when it was a 2 month friendship, I took the rejection in stride and we still good friends. Imo it's best to ask them out early before feelings get fully blown and develop. @@BooksForLife_ idk... There are no good answers here. I just woke up now and it still hurts. Every night I dream my feelings are reciprocated and I wake up to the reality. I've booked an appointment with a therapist. My case doesn't seem like yours. She did like me at one point if only for casual sex. So since she had desired me, I find it hard to give up. Maybe she will desire me again? We did date for a few days because she wanted to give it a shot and see if it might work. anyway... coming to your issue. I highly recommend you explicitly reject him as early as possible. Like I said, that's my main takeaway. If I want to stay friends with a girl I need to crush any hope that something more can happen. So I stop even entertaining the idea of it becoming romantic. The girls who I'm friends with, either I rejected them, or I don't find them attractive or they made it very clear that they don't think of me that way. Once that is clear then it's harder to misunderstand their platonic affection as romantic interest. I think most guys struggle with that, it gets even harder when you love her. Optimism bias comes into play and you want to believe that she likes you. I'm biased but my stance on these topics are clear. A person in love is mentally compromised. He deserves some level of sympathy and understanding. If you genuinely feel you will never date him, that he is not going out there and finding someone who can actually love and desire him. You aren't being a good friend of his. Being led on is a consequence that doesn't require you to explicitly do anything. It's not your fault but it can still happen. A girl can smile at some guys too often and he will think she likes him 😂, not her fault but he does think he has a chance and that will affect his behaviour. Think about all the stakeholders involved. Like you said, you have a conflict of interest here. Both of you are enjoying the friendship but at the end, eventually his feelings will likely grow deeper and it will end with a painful heartbreak for him or many lost years where he could can cultivated a more fulfilling relationship. Again it's not my place to decide. Hell if it's me... I'd rather stay friends than not talk to my crush let along someone I know for so long and love. The only reason I managed to give up on this friendship is because she was finally kind enough to explicitly tell me she doesn't have anything but platonic affection towards me. I needed to hear that explicitly. It was hard for her. I was her best friend and she doesn't have many friends. I have many friends and they helped me a lot. It sucks that I can't be there for her. But in hindsight maybe I'll be grateful for her maturity and honesty. Who knows... At this point I am still struggling to give up hope 😂 I really don't understand how love works. What makes someone attractive in a romantic sense... Isn't it friendship plus something extra? What do I lack? Try to ensure you frame it as incompatibility. Rejection is always hard to take and give but there are always worse ways to do it. I hope things work out for you.

I think I may have gotten it a bit worse. I had this HUGE crush on this girl I was best friends with. We talked all the time, we hung out, and we still do, mind you. So I put my feelings out in the open, and I got rejected. Not the "I like you as a friend", or "I don't like you in that way." No, I got the worst one. The final level of the friend zone. "I love you. As a brother" I was like "Ok, that's up to you. But can we still be friends?" We're best friends to this day, but here's the kicker, that part that truly gutted me. My other best friend, he got together with her, AFTER I told him about how I felt about her and how it went down. I'm still recovering, I mean, she was the love of my life, and she got with my best friend after putting me in the Brother Zone, or as I call it, The Brozone. ._. At first i was like, wow this is a really good animation. The characters, the script, the voice over, everything was good. But near the end i realize how the story relate on me so much. I feel like this is something i need to put in my mind about all the friendship i had during my school days. Just came over this video and I can relate somehow. Except for the part of having a crush on the other person as all my best friends are of the same gender. I used to have the best friendships ever back to secondary school and high school but due to some reasons like different classes and schools, we gradually drifted apart and it was so sad whenever I suddenly bumped into them and had some awkwardly boring convo. We dont talk much now like we used to before. I dont know if they feel the same towards me but I just want them to know they’ll forever be remembered and I will cherish the memories we had together for a life time.

Your story hit home to me. It reminded me of my first crush when I was in grade school. I had this crush on this guy who I thought I was out of his league and couldn't ask him because I faced rejection from time to time. Because I was so obsessed with him, I didn't realize other people were interested in me till they told me or what my friends said to me in the end. He and I were never friends, more like acquaintances, but I wanted to be friends with him. Then, I met my best friend who helped me overcome that obsession with that guy, which I sorta developed feelings for my best friend, but I wasn't sure if he liked me back. Later, I told him I liked him for a while (knowing him for 4+ years), but he didn't like me back at that time. We continued as friends, both knowing what I felt for him, but things are getting back to where I left off. He's a fantastic guy who will find a good girl, which I will be happy for him, no matter how much it will hurt me.
