I remember in my youth, many years ago, I went into one of my local game stores and was browsing. After skimming the selection for a bit I picked up a copy of Devil May Cry 2, and thought to myself that I really enjoyed the first one, so I'm sure that a sequel would be a fun game to play. Well I walked up to the counter and was ready to buy it, and the clerk looked at the game, looked at me and just told me to put it back on the shelf and get something else. Confused, I did as he said and grabbed a random JRPG out of the pre-owned section. I still remember that great man who saved me from Devil May Cry 2 and caused my to randomly grab a copy of Persona 3. Bless that man wherever he may be.

Pat, I'm not sure how much you guys have already recorded, but take it from someone who only used Trickster and Swordmaster until DmC was revealed and made me discover the hidden depths to this game. Gunslinger is not a means to emphasize your ranged over your melee, but rather to make them even by making ranged viable. It is a means of completing your offense regardless of enemy proximity, ensuring there's always damage you could be doing. E&I charge shots are your god, and that god is generous. Jump cancelled Helm Breaker into Rain Storm is the sickest shit. Happy hunting.

I've always been a fan of guns in general so when I first got DMC3 I exclusively used the style. I found out exactly the same you did, now I'm not saying it's the most perfect style to use but I feel it is unfairly looked down upon when in actuality it has great use for keeping combo's going and general crowd control at all ranges and angles. Surfing on enemies is actually extremely useful since it helps create space between you and the other enemies, something that's essential on harder difficulties. Getting ganged up by enemies on DMD can be fatal so using the surf move to get out of danger is a very valid and good tactic that keeps your style gauge up.

3:22 AND PAT IS WRONG Lucia has a shorter game, and her game goes on a different path than dante, she gets the shitty underwater levels in this one (and a unique DT dedicated to underwater stuff... that sucks) Dante never goes underwater. they also do some levels in different order and take different paths through them. seriously, you can see that from the start of level 1 EDIT to keep my DMC 2 related posts in one place: 6:52 WRONG AGAIN, it is actually WHEN you move the analog stick; having it neutral will do the regular combo, moving it in ANY direction after a move from the main combo will alter the moves that come afterwards, you actually got (technically) a different combo for every single move of the main one, except the finisher, each combo also changing into a different one during devil trigger.
