30 years ago I wore Arai, mostly because they fit me best out of the big three at the time,(Arai, Bell, and Shoei.) The Defiant is at the top of my list, as I get back into riding after to long away. Can't find a Shoei or Bell that I'm comfortable with. the HJC models I've tried that fit well, have drop downs, (that fail according to riders I've talked to.) Icon Airframe fits well, but it's just missing something I can't put finger on. So more than likely it'll be an Arai Defiant Pro Cruise in Hi-Viz Yellow I buy as daily wear. My advice to anyone looking for a new lid. Try several, find the one you're most comfortable in. If it's not comfortable, you'll find it distracting, which makes you less safe as a rider. If your helmet is uncomfortable, you won't want to wear it, which means you won't ride as much. We all lose then, (as that usually means less attention to issues affecting riders.)

Added the Arai Siqnet Q Pro to my Shoei Rf1200 w/ photochromic shield., and Shoei Air. Siqnet Q is the quietest. Very super comfie. Visor has grown on me. Shoei is the lightest and has a better chin curtain. Used more in cold weather. Shoei Air has a drop down visor. Used more in hot weather with just the shade down at low speeds. All have pinlock. Shoeis keep my glasses in place better. Arai has better speaker ports since they are integrated into the ear liner. My 2 cents after 10 months. About the same price paid $379-$390. Thanks Doug

Everyone says order a size larger with the RPHA11. I’m a medium 57cm in both the IS17 and the RPHA11. Yeah the RPHA is slightly more snug but that snug reduces wind noise and frankly feels better and more safe. My RPHA11 is by no means an uncomfortable squeeze in the same size. Glad I didn’t order a size larger. Definitely go try them on.

HJC RPHA 11 Pro user here - Trust me on this one guys, just put this lid on and you'll feel the difference. It's snug, light and the peripherals are amazing. I'm a tall dude and I've had issues with some helmets in tuck position but this one... holy shit it's like driving one of those cars with a transparent roof. Give it a try, it's amazing. Wind noise doesn't bother me, I have ear plugs + music

I couldn't agree more with your review, especially of the Bell Race Star. I had the first gen Star, and although it was a great helmet, the fit wasn't great and it was pretty loud. Flash forward to Gen2 and WOW, they have addressed those issues and more. The new models fit like a glove and they're quiet and pretty light. Ventilation is good too. I compare the Bell Race Star to my Shoei RF1200, but to be honest, the Bell fits better, has better visibility and ventilation. It also costs a bit less. I think I'm sticking with Bell for a while

Have you ever thought about doing a video for the best spots on a helmet to mount different cameras and/or best helmets for camera mounting?
@FortNine8 жыл бұрын
I haven't, really! In my opinion the nicest shot comes from mounting the camera right to the center of the chin bar. That way the camera hangs low, giving a nice view through the dash of the motorcycle. It can be tricky to stick a camera there, though, since a lot of helmets have big vents at the centre of the chin bar. ~RyanF9
@Rookzer8 жыл бұрын
Thanks. My biggest concern about the chin bar mount is blocking the vent. I agree with the angle and POV that is achieved from that position but I also have the Drift Ghost so that is an unattainable pipe dream. lol Thanks for the reply.

Every retailer out there is saying to order a size bigger on the RPHA 11, but don't. I wanted a proper fit on my helmet once I decided to buy a serious helmet, so I went against all suggestions and got a small that fit HJC size chart for my head size. Yes it was tight the first day but less than a week later it was soooo comfortable to wear and is very quiet, I think this is why there are complaints for how loud it is. After a year of riding (roughly 12k miles) I almost wish I would have ordered an XS to see if I could fit my head in it because the padding wore in and there is a slight amount of room around my head now. Always buy the smallest size you can fit your head into. CON: the Riberte graphics fade after a while. I got the black/hiviz and the yellow/green is almost white on top, which pisses me off. Helmet is freaking awesome other than that though.

Have you had a chance to compare the Bell Race Star Speed Café and RSD designs? I'm set on the race star but I am torn between the 2 graphics. Your vid is the first I've actually been able to see the Ace Café graphic and I'm curious what that brushed aluminum looking portion of the RSD will look like in real life.
@FortNine7 жыл бұрын
I don't have a video with the RSD Chief, but I've seen it! Your dilemma is understandable as they're both very nice. The brushed aluminum looks cool... wouldn't fool anyone into thinking it were real aluminum, but that's not really the point haha. ~RyanF9

Can't wait for the 2017 ADV lid video. I'm shopping for a lid for bike touring in India (partly off-road, and even the on-road isn't your first-world tarmac). Any recommendations in the meantime?
@FortNine8 жыл бұрын
India eh? Sounds awesome. And also hot. The new Klim Krios is stupid-light and really well ventilated (fortnine.ca/en/klim-krios-karbon-adventure-helmet). It's usually the ADV helmet I grab when I'm going for a more demanding ride. Only downside is it's really loud and expensive. Might be worth looking into the AGV AX-8 Dual EVO as well (fortnine.ca/en/agv-ax-8-dual-evo-solid-helmet). It's one of the safest ADV helmets out there, plus it's decently quiet. The other cool thing is that you can remove the front vent cover, leaving just the foamie to cover a massive hole in the chin bar. Basically it breathes as well as an MX helmet like that, and I reckon the extra ventilation could come in handy for you. Hope that helps, and enjoy your trip! ~RyanF9

I like the sound of the AGV - I'll look into that. Thanks for the super quick reply :) have a great day!

I'm in India right now actually - planning next year's trip. Bike gear here is scarce and largely not safety tested (also a lot of fakes) so next time I will bring everything with me. Here I count as exceptionally safety conscious because I always wear 'a thing' on my head (I won't dignify it with the term helmet) and I have shoes that cover my toes - not flipflops....

@FortNine8 жыл бұрын
That Bell Race Star is quite a different helmet. Bigger, heavier, but extremely safe, very aerodynamic and with a huge field of view. Essentially, it's a great race helmet. The HJC RPHA 11 would be a closer alternative to your NXR. It's cheaper, lighter, more ventilated and comes with a second shield. All in all, a better helmet. The RF-1200 only wins in terms of soundproofing, and in that it has a Snell sticker. Ya wol. ~RF9

It's a good helmet - actually features in my 2017 modular video. Basically rips off the Schuberth E1 for a fraction of the price. Main downside is that it's heavy (1780g for a medium). Also if you ride a lot of trails, I find that the chin vent doesn't breathe well enough and the eye port is too small for a lot of goggles. ~RyanF9
