I use lettuce grow lights in my tent. They cover a wide area and are great for Nepenthes as they will allow for vertical space that I will eventually need for vining. The only thing I will say is dimmable is always the best for the high powered panel lights it allows fine tuning the amount of light plants need!

If you are buying plants as gifts, but you aren't a plant person, at least ask what type of plants is their favorite to collect (cactus, Philodendron, Hoya or whatever) ... then buy one of that type. If you are out to spend tons, ask them what their "Unicorn " plant is (dream plant). *ask casually in text so it's easier to remember the crazy Latin names 😂* Incase anyone I know sees this... Cactus and Euphorbias (plants or seeds😂) metal bakers shelves , and a 4ft pack or 2 of full white Barrina T8 growlights 😅 Heck, another 8×4 grow tent too😂

I get this, but there's definitely "types" of plants that people can have lots of favourites and then some that are even hated. A lot of people like the philodendrons, specially the climbing ones, but most people I know HATE philodendron 'Birkin.' So be careful with that too.

Wearable Magnifying Glass with LED lights-- like the ones model makers use. These are insanely helpful for me when checking for pests or even cleaning roots when repotting. You can spot pests right at the infancy before getting a full blown infestation.

Now this is a great list. I'm behind it 100%. A couple of things I'd like to add though would be SafeTSorb, which is a high fired montmorillonite clay or Calcined clay that can be used like LECA but looks more natural so it can be used in potting soil to give it better drainage. It's also much cheaper than LECA and easier to find than Turface MVP. Edit: do not give clay cat litter as it may look and act the same, it is not high fired and will break down over time and make a sloppy mess in the bottom of your containers and pots. Now that your soil smells like a brand new cat box, I'd recommend Scat Mats will help keep kitty out of your plants. You can get ones that can be cut to size and placed in your large plant pots. Anyone who has indoors cats will be happy when they have to bring in plants for the winter. Another thing would be activated charcoal. You can't go wrong with that as it can keep soil from spoiling if it gets too wet for too long. Third would be a used terrarium. An all glass enclosure could be used for propagation but it could also keep some high humidity plants very happy especially if you have a under the tank heater attached to it. It's also nice enough looking that you could have it in your living space. On that line, you could also give some really nice handmade pottery or unique glass bottles. I love weird containers of all kinds. Last would be catalogs, magazines, and books. You can never get enough information. The Internet is great but a lot of times books will take me down a rabbit hole I never new existed.

I have an argument for the "cheap" sphagnum moss. I do terrariums and bioactive enclosures. Having the loose bits like roots, twigs, and bark chunks helps to add texture and variety for soil. It helps make it look more natural. If using it in prop bins I find I have no issues with it either. I buy the cheapest I can find and it comes full of chunks and I would continue using it again. If the person you know would use it for more of an aesthetic look or maybe they're mounting epiphytes I could understand the argument then.
