Thank you so much for this video. It’s rare to find someone who considers that a lot of people are on a budget and don’t have the option to buy the newest, most powerful laptop. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the m1 and m2 airs but most people seem to just recommend them for casual use

The difference is probably that I make a living as a designer not from youtube links, and yes, do use old computers, they work perfectly fine for professional use. If I would have to choose now being on a budget, I would get a 2015 16inch model.

@@designthescenes I actually have a couple of old computers, including a 2010 MacBook Pro back in Australia, that I still want to keep. I think they have more potential value for me to keep, and it’s hard to let them go. @@themilesinkorea repairing laptops is really easy with the tutorials from ifixit, for that 2010 I would replace the hdd for an ssd, place a new battery and see what it does. Also clean the fan, maybe get a new one. One important note: make sure you dont install MACos Catalina, go one OS before that one, high Sierra would do just perfect. Catalina ruined most laptops and makes the fan spin consistently. When I went to high sierra on my 2012, absolute silence and smooth computer.

As a visual designer in training I'll be only handling Ps, Ai, Id, Figma & rarely Ae. My question is will the 8GB RAM & 16GB RAM make a lot of difference? PS: I am on a tight budget and I am opting for a 512GB SSD. Also I don't expect to use it for a decade, probably for the next 3-5 years.

Great video, I currently have a budget of $400-500 and need a laptop for freecad/autodesk/blender for a 3d printer. Would these be fine or am i just too broke?
@designthescenes
@designthescenes 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! For 500 you can find a second hand 2016-2017 macbookpro 13 inches, probably the best computer you can get for that price. For graphic design that would be a great computer. You can run blender and use other software, the only issue might be if you want to render, that might be a bit slow, but it will do the work. I do use cinema 4d and blender sometimes and for small things works fine. Make sure it has 16gb ram and at least 500gb of ssd...then that's a great computer for that price. These laptops are getting cheaper by the day because Apple is launching all these powerful machines with the Apple Silicon Chips (m1)

Thanks for sharing your view. I had a similar (great ) experience with my beloved mbp pro 15” 2013 - tough machine. Now, that’s time to buy a new one I think I’d follow you with the air but let me ask you something about the monitors... which do you think it’s an affordable and good 24”? - I prefer some inches left for better quality. What do you think about? Thanks
@designthescenes
@designthescenes 3 жыл бұрын
I have a video about monitors planned soon. I literally bought 4 monitors and had to return them. Ended buying the thunderbolt display from Apple because it is the best built and design of them all, only downside is that it is 2k, but I am used to it. For 24 and on a budget, I would look at Apple Cinema Display 24...I know its old, but you great color calibration, nice camera, speakers etc. But if I were you, I would either get the thunderbolt 27. But all in all, I would wait, Apple is releasing new monitors I think soon. If you get an Apple monitor, you won't regret it. The LG 5k is a great monitor, but a bit expensive and not as a nicely design as the display or thunderbolt. And even more, if you don't really need a laptop, instead of getting the Air, you would do much better by getting the new imac, it has a great 4.5k display and the performance of both computers are the same. it comes with speakers, mic, and a great camera, great for remote working. : )

The problem is the Air only supports 1 external SSD. My Uni said a MacBook with M1 is good. They say it would be nice to get 32GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD. Can someone share their experience with the M1 Pro or M1 Max. Which Prozessor do i get? How much RAM do i get and also how much SSD? I will be editing 4k Videos next to graphics design as i got a new sidehustle. Ah and not to forget what size do i take? 14“ or 16“. I was in Store and the 14“ is so portable and nice, but the 16“ has such a nice touchpad (i usally only work with touchpad if i work on the Laptop, i will also get a magic trackpad for my home setup) and the bigger form factor just makes the fans turn on less often and even if they turn on they are nearly quiete, as i heard that the 14“ it is impossible to use the M1 Max as it thermal throttles so hard… and also with the M1 Pro the Fans turn on quite often… I hate Fan noise… Smbdy out there that could help me out?

So I would suggest to take a look at Ipad Pro since it's very powerful. If you need a laptop I do recommend the Air over the Pro. If you don't mind having a desktop computer, then the best buy is the new Imac, because it has the best screen there is in the market with a great computer built in it, and camera, audio, mic etc. I am a designer and never used an ipad, so I can't tell much in that regard, but I heard from friends the ipad pro is amazing.

Hi, I was wondering how to replace my working laptop Lenovo Y700-17 (I use it for graphics - I don't play games) with a new model. But I don't know what to look at, I have already a 27 inch Dell UP2720Q monitor and a separate system unit with Rizen 9. I need a laptop with only 17 screens, I took 15.6 top-end Apple Pro (it heats up and makes noise, which is just horrible), sold it! I'm looking at Dell G7 17 (7700) on Intel Core i9 NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER. For me, the power to work with video work and graphics is important and 100% SRGB, and close ADOBE RGB 100% Budget 3000 $

@@sergiykravchuk The only info I have is that there are new macbooks pros coming up with a stronger chip than the m1. The m1 is fantastic and beats every other intel mac. I can imagine the new macbook pros will be for creators with a crazy good performance. I am a graphic designer and I only use apple products, so from apple, which is the only brand I know well, I would recommend you now the mac mini with m1 chip, if you need more power, then better wait until tjhe next release, that I believe is due end of this year. A great all round computer is new Imac, but I guess you have a monitor already.

@@tayloredcreative4679 if you can't upgrade from High Sierra then your laptop must be really old? I was using all programs until very recently with my macbook2012, latest OS was Catalina. Big sur is still upgradeable with a 2013MBP. The laptops I recommended are from 2015/16... which still upgrade to Monterey.. so they should work just fine for another 5-10 years easily and have no issues with Adobe. If you are having issues with your computer, my guess is that it's either you computer being too old, or you need to upgrade to another OS. Good luck anyway and hope you can fix it soon

But I am not the only one saying this, every tech reviewer says this is the best value laptop there is... so yeah your friend decided to save on a very important metric. Best in case of doubt is 8gb ram, 512ssd. That's the minimum. For performance though, the macpro 14 inches is better, of course.
