I think Beretta APX, CZ P10 or M&P 2.0 would be my recs for the average joe not because they are substantially better or different from Glocks but because they are similar enough for regularly less than 2/3rds the price on sale. That's a more range trips for the same money.

The P10 impressed me. I bought one for a loaner gun because getting a blue label Glock in my hick town isn’t easy and isn’t cheap. A P10 optics ready from grabagun with three mags shipped was cheaper than a blue label G19(non mos). The P10 fits my concealed and duty holster. It’s had three hiccups with 90lb females, but you know what that’s from.

I gotta be honest, I bought a P30L because I needed a 9mm and the LEM trigger gives me 1 trigger pull like a striker fire, but has an exposed hammer to make reholstering safer. I don't expect anyone to care about that last part, but it is a selling point of hammer fired firearms for concealed carry.
@Jesse-sz6fpАй бұрын
I’m with you on that. I put the Striker Control Device on all my Glocks so I can “thumb the striker” while reholstering. If the SCD didn’t exist, I wouldn’t carry Glocks

@Jesse-sz6fp if I were to carry a Glock, I'd do exactly the same. I'll be honest, if HK could make an optics ready p30 and get the cost to the same as a Glock 19 MOS, I'd never suggest a Glock to anyone again. But HK hates us.

I'm also a fan of DA/SA guns. I'm playing with a PX4 G-SD from Langdon Tactical and even in competition, I don't notice the long heavy trigger pull. The short trigger reset is worth it to go faster when you need to, but that first shot tells you to slow down and get everything right before you squeeze that first shot.

The whole debate about this (especially in light of people saying they’re boring compared to other options) reminds me of a saying I heard when I was living in Australia - “if you want to go out into the bush, take a Land Rover. If you want to come back, take a Land Cruiser.” Glocks may be “boring”, but they get the job done without any fuss. And there’s always Gucci Glocks for the people who care more about looking cool than actually training & using their shit.
@user-te3qq1rb7uАй бұрын
Yeah it’s like saying a Honda Civic isn’t as exciting as a Ferrari. Like yeah no shit. The Civic is a means of reliable transportation. The Glock is a reliable means of self defense. I don’t want either to be high performance and exotic at the cost of reliability.

One of the reason for the popularity of Glock is it’s acceptance by Law Enforcement. One of the reasons LE gravitates towards Glock is the simplicity of maintenance and repair. An armorer can be trained in eight hours or less. This is especially important when dealing with large numbers of guns to detail strip and maintain yearly as is the case in many agencies.

I actually know of gen 4 glocks breaking the front of the slide where it interfaces with the recoil spring assembly, usually in .40, and probably beyond the recommended service life for that part. This is literally the first I've ever heard of 1st gen M&Ps "leaving a bad taste" with people. @hansjurgen are these issues stemming just from early production runs in the first year or two? If I had, I wouldn't have bought it lol. (This was right around when the original Shield was first introduced) There was nothing but praise for the M&P line from everything that I was hearing and reading during the time that I was looking into it... and since. Maybe they worked those issues out by the time I started looking at them? I dunno, like I keep saying, I'm genuinely surprised to hear of any issues with the M&P.

Re: Glock Service Life A lot of the impressions about frames cracking after 100,000 rounds on rental guns does not account for whether or not those rental guns had their springs, especially the recoil spring, replaced on any sort of a meaningful schedule. When recoil springs and parts are replaced at the end of their intended service life, those frames and guns will go forever - this is true of pretty much every accepted service pistol.

The only reason it exists is because people tried to game the carry optics and production system which it failed at. It is legal in limited, but then you have a gun that costs as much as open gun, isnt as reliable as other 2011's, with a worse trigger and aftermarket support. My fully cajunized CZ shadow was a third of an alien. It's carry optic, limited, and production legal depending on how i want to run it. The alien is OBJECTIVELY a worse value than most other guns. Not an opinion, its an objective fact. It's a gun that isnt legal in anything but open and limited, is as expensive as an atlas, but shoots worse than one. It was a hype piece that people who couldnt shoot used at the shot show range day and people ate that shit up. You can buy an open gun for 4500 bucks that runs circles around an alien.

Would the cz shadow 2 compact replace a g19 it seems better in every category
@mynameisjeff6988Ай бұрын
Depends on the shooter. Is a full sized shadow 2 a better gun in your mind than a glock 34? There are pro's and cons to both. I like berettas, but most people cannot handle a non competition oriented double action pull. Are you good at a DA pull? Would you rather have consistency in your trigger pull like a glock? Its all up to you. I would carry a shadow if they had drop safeties and better manual safeties, but there are people who carry them regardless.

CZ P10c is very G19 gen 5 like but you have a better trigger, and the grip sits lower in your hand. It was also sub four hundred, so buying mags and ammo for practice is affordable. I carry a G19 gen 5 for work and the only gripe I have is the grip is slightly shorter than I would like, otherwise it is the gold standard.

The grip but not the slide. I still like it though.

ZEV is the only gun you need; it has modern technology advantages and lots of 1911 features; it’s well balanced, flat shooting, and accurate….. everything you need in a do it all handgun. Grip choices another big plus
@rockman0902227 күн бұрын
For anyone that trains for performance/comp would regularly spend at minimum $200 a month on ammo and supplies; the price of the gun even the modifications don't even come close to making a difference. Just pick a platform that you can mount a solid grip on without hurting and practice the hell out of it

With all the experts on youtube I'll give you average dude perspective, likes to shoot steel targets or whatever, have a good time up in the mountains or the sand dunes, all that. I'm not coming from the perspective of a guy who times his splits, is video worthy, I'm just a guy who grew up in a mid sized city in the Snake River/Tetons area and guns were everywhere. Growing up we'd go shooting, never thought about trigger pull, barrel twist rate, blah blah blah. Was meant to have fun and that's still the way I look at it. Here's my priority list that I look for in a pistol: 1. Looks pretty cool 2. Won't jam 3. Easy to maintain 4. Accurate enough not to be embarrassing 5. Under $1000 (I have expensive pistols like the Staccato and CZ Shadow and while they're f'in great, feel like I got ripped off a little because at my slightly above average skill level they're not so much greater for double or triple the price of other nice pistols) 6. Doesn't make me look like a wannabe douche. Interesting about the M&P. I've been buying quite a few pistols past 3 years, various brands, never really considered M&P. Wasn't really on purpose just with the seemingly hundreds of good options, M&P just never really stood out to me until literally a week or so ago. I stop in at gun shops if I see one just to browse because it's fun. Retired cop I know who runs the D&B Supply gun section is fun to talk to so we were chatting. Knowing me a bit, he said I should check out this 4" steel M&P 2.0 because he knows I also like pistol/PCC combo and M&P has that relatively new foldable PCC. I've toted around a Glock 17 with the Ruger 10122 PCC for a long time when I'm in mountians or back country and don't want to have different mags and ammo. Have to say, 2.0 Metal seems really cool. Weight is good, size is good, grip felt fantastic but what surprised me the most was the trigger. I like the PDP series a lot so I wasn't prepared to be impressed but it felt clean like the Walther trigger. Hard to find youtube reviews on the 2.0 Metal. Anyone have some insight?

Who the hell is acting like Walther is just now coming on the scene? Fun fact, Walther was founded in 1886. Glock was founded in 1963. Walther has been around almost a century longer than Glock. Walther offering a RDO cut and more boxy look made the PDP and ultimately more popular. The Walther PPQ and predecessors have been amazing platforms.

I really like the grip angle of the Milwaukee 16 ga trim nailer. It’s about 25 percent less reliable than the Dewalt in my evaluation. I’ll keep the Milwaukee because I just like to hold it and convince others to buy something less reliable and feel my pain. How much sense does that make?
@HWG-wm8ldАй бұрын
I thought Milwaukee was a good brand and dewalt was a notch above black and decker. I have Mikita tools from a sponsor deal, I’m in no way into using them professionally.
@DaveJackalopeАй бұрын
@@HWG-wm8ld I really did compare the two. I was also just kidding about the grip angle, I didn’t even care about that but the dewalt did work more reliably. Both are the battery powered ones. There’s other types of battery powered carpentry tools where Milwaukee is better in my opinion such as the circular saw.

Glocks don't work for me because I want a thumb safety so I can lighten the trigger more than I could a Glock and still stay safe. Also, the grip angle on Glocks aren't for me. I predict one or more Glocks will have an optional thumb safety in the future. Maybe a model(s) with a different grip angle.
