Great explanation. I will be trying this out tomorrow to deal with the coming Southern California rainy season.

On your recommendation I bought a tube of Parr clear. First time I applied to aluminum gutter seam leaking I had a bad outcome. I didn't thoroughly clean off the old caulk and I didn't let the Parr cure long enough. I tried again, sanding and using isopropyl alcohol for a clean surface. I applied the Parr, which goes on easily, and let it cure for a week. No more leak! It's essential to have a spotless surface.

How do I clean and apply this on a 2nd story gutter. Is there a way without getting on a ladder??? I have a deck. Then a small 1st floor roof…and then a 2nd floor more inwards If that makes sense…so I’d have to put a ladder from the first roof, walk on that one, and then put a second ladder on the 1st floor roof to reach the 2nd. Any way I can do this from the floor??? Any tips or advice will be appreciated!!!! Thanks!!

Sorry, I only have bad news, I need to get my hands in the gutter and wipe the crap out of the crack first before installing the Parrbond on the inside where the source of water is. Anything else is going to be a Band-Aid and won’t last as long.

How about another Parr product, Parlastic Aluminum?
@jonathanfischi93914 жыл бұрын
Perhaps for new work? I meticulously removed old sealant, cleaned, dried, applied Parbond and all of the repaired seals broke during the first winter.

Too bad there isn't an easy way to clean the slime that builds up between the metal surfaces. Sorry to hear your failure, could a putty knife wraped in cotton rag with alcohol on it slide between the surfaces? Possibly from the outside?

I used this product (Parr Parabond Clear) on leaks in three separate places on my gutter. (The leaks were on the joints). I followed instructions, and prepped the joints until they were clean down to the bare metal. Then I applied the sealer as Mr. Hardware instructed, and waited a little over 24 hours. Then I ran a hose in the gutter to test whether it worked. It completely sealed the leaks in two of the joints. However in the third joint, just a tiny bit of moisture is collecting on the bottom of the gutter. My question is this: Can I add another bead over the beads I have already laid on that section of gutter? I assume the sealer would find its way into any remaining cracks. But I'm not sure. Any thoughts anyone? Thanks in advance!
@MrHardware14 жыл бұрын
Yes you can add more Parabond over the old. Was the gap bigger between the metal in the leaker?

Thank you for this information. You are right. Parbond is the best. It saved me from 15 year long gutter trouble. Thank you again.

through the roof is co-polymer rubber and LEXEL is pure rubber, you should try it out see if you like it.
@augustwestusa2 жыл бұрын
I wonder what you would recommend if the water is leaking because no drip edge (plastic porch roof). I don't think it's possible to install a drip edge on this plastic porch roof. I need some way of keeping the water from back flowing onto the wood frame that holds up the plastic roof. Would parbond work in that case, between wood and metal? Or would a product like Through the roof be better? Thanks for your video!
@MrHardware12 жыл бұрын
I can’t see the pitch or structure you have, but sometimes a bead of caulk, Parrbond is too expensive for this job, like Through the roof, or Lexel on the bottom edge of the plastic can make the water drip there instead of flowing back towards the wood.
@augustwestusa2 жыл бұрын
@@MrHardware1 Thank you so much! We ended up using through the roof. We love that product. Oh and I found out we have a drip edge but the gutter was hanging too close to it and the gutter was bolted to the wood without rubber gasket seal thing (can't remember what that's called!). Really appreciate your help! Great video and advice!
@1janiesuper7 жыл бұрын
I like that you only had to use a small amount, rather than coat the bottom of the gutter. I would rather not coat the gutter because it impedes the water flow. I like that it sinks into the joint.

QUESTION: Do you know if I can paint over the sealant? If so, how long do I need to wait after application to do so. (My house sits about 15 feet below street level and you can see down into the front gutters from the street and the driveway.) Thanks
@MrHardware12 жыл бұрын
I’m pretty sure it can be painted, however an easier solution is to use the clear version.

My gutters are 20 yrs old and leaking at a couple of seams. Will the parabond work on "dirty" seams or do you have to get very clean?
@MrHardware13 жыл бұрын
They need to be clean enough so the adhesive has good contact w the metal

The Parbond looks great for small joints/gaps, but my gutter is leaking from a few small holes (about dime size). Is there a product you can recommend for this? I've read that Flex Seal and other heavy/thick products often fail in time. Thanks!
@MrHardware15 жыл бұрын
I would make small alum patches and then parbond or flex seal the patches to the clean gutter.

Any possibility that Parbond can be used on vinyl gutters?
@MrHardware17 жыл бұрын
I checked and there is no info regarding vinyl. It does stick very well to everything I used it on. We use Quad sealants for vinyl siding to alum trim.

How can I seal between the eve traft and my eve
@MrHardware12 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I don’t understand ’eve traft’. The gutter needs to be behind the drip edge and not caulked there. Sort of a floating flashing.

Of course, it sticks to all metal I've used it on. Galvanized metal needs to wear or etch (or treated with vinegar) to break the slippery surface. Blair

If you can get the surface of the butyl halfway clean I recommend the spray sealer. RUST-OLEUM LeakSeal 267972 Flexible Sealer, 12 oz Aerosol Can

Easy application is nice, but it's literally the least important aspect of the product. How tough is it? Does it flex/stretch? Paintable? UV resistance? How long will it last? etc.

Oh s*** I know this video is old but I know this must drive a lot of professionals crazy. Almost everything he has said so far has made me cringe. I live in Ontario South Western Ontario. It could be 30 below and then two days later 60°. This s*** would never work here. But anyway today's tremco gutter seal is the best product on the market. Availability easy to work with and not expensive. My only complaint is that they only seem to have clear or white.
