Without question (early game) the worst opponent is the boat builder in Oreton. He has tons of hero cards and also seemed to save a scorch card until the end.

YES!!!! I remember my first play-through took 5 times to beat him because I was stubborn and didn’t want to build/change my deck in any way, so I kept playing him with what I had and eventually my luck was sufficient… I’ve learned better strategies since 🤣
@rolling-roadkill Жыл бұрын
I often play all my spy cards in the first round. The opponent tend to pass when it reaches some kind of score threshold. Then if I have any special cards I use them to score a win in the first round. To see if the opponent has scorch I often play out two of the 5 point archer cards with tight bond. The opponent almost always cast scorch on them so I can play my ballistas+horn for 64 points. Using decoy with Villentretenmerth can be so satisfying if you've waited a bit while your opponent has used muster-cards to fill the melee-row. 😁
@DeviantDreamers Жыл бұрын
I always play my spies first at well- it’s just nice to know what kind of resources you have at your full disposal in the beginning of the game, too 😂 I see a fellow NR enthusiast! It’s by far the strongest faction in W3 Gwent, and no one can even attempt to convince me otherwise… 🤣 Yes!!! Villentretenmerth + Decoy can be SO satisfying, especially against MO muster, tight bonds, and/or a ton of similar point value cards affected by a Commander’s Horn… there’s no better feeling! 😭
@Faifainei7 ай бұрын
Spy cards and decoys are insane because they create card advantage. Even if you only use decoy on a normal card without special effects, it will force a decision from your opponent to commit another card on the round or pass the turn. Playing from behind, with as much information as possible, has enourmous value in gwent.
@DeviantDreamers7 ай бұрын

When I have a lot of spies, I will usually place all of them in the first round. The enemy will keep wasting cards while I place spies. They might even steal one of those spies and place them back to me, and if I can, I will use feint and place them right back. Eventually, the opponent will catch on and pass, so you can either keep placing your spies and lose the round on purpose, or place a weather card to weaken the spies and then win the round without having to use so many cards. Either way, you'll either win the first round, or lose it purposefully but have way more cards than the opponent

Scorch cards are really dangerous, try to play around them for as long as possible, for example if your opponent has played a 10, don't play above that to save yourself. Alternatively you can try to bait that scorch out. Say you're playing northern realms and have two catapults (the 8s that double when placed together) and a few 6s. Play those first. Three 6s is a very tempting target for a scorch. Then you hit them with double 16s. Remember hero cards are not effected by scorches. If you're playing a monster deck , which in great part focuses front row and you have a biting frost and a scorch that's an unholy combo. Freeze the front row, making them all the same strength, then scorch (provided you don't have any non hero unit cards on your own side) can be a game winning move. Also spies are overpowered, keep as many as possible and use every opportunity to play them

I play all of my spy cards at once and throw the first round. Usually works out cause a lot of opponents will start off with high level and hero cards
@DeviantDreamers Жыл бұрын
That’s typically an approach that tends to work well! The only tricky scenario is when you play against another NR or NG opponent who also has a ton of spies and decoys (perhaps more than you do at the time), and you have to make some tough decisions regarding point advantages versus card advantages in r1… that’s the worst 😓
@KillerTofuDrums Жыл бұрын
@DeviantDreamers you have to have a bit of luck on your side cause yeah, if they overload your side with tons of spies then the game plan has to be more flexible. I never keep more than 22 unit cards to try to maximize potency. Im still trying to get more "muster" units. "Tight bonds" are great but you gotta luck out to get them in a hand. Once im done with the main B&W quest line, I wanna focus on bolstering my decks.

When my enemy uses monster cards, I tend to put more icy-weather-cards in my deck and remove other weather cards, so there's a better chance I'll draw icy weather. I also remove many of my own melee cards apart from heroes. Monster cards are very very melee-heavy and tend to summon absolute truckloads of melee cards every time they're placed. I then wait until the end before placing icy weather, so the opponent wastes clear-weather-cards. Icy weather can shred monster decks good.
@kamranismayilzade3789 Жыл бұрын
The problem is, I wish I could know in advance what is the deck most of my opponents using, so that I could adjust my strategy and play decks accordingly. Sometimes with quest characters, they give you hints in dialogues, but it is a very rare case, especially with other NPCs.
@DeviantDreamers Жыл бұрын
That’s why I tend to try and keep my decks as “balanced” as possible to ensure that I have at least one or two good counters for each potential faction. Worst case scenario, though, if you end up losing against your opponent the first time, you can easily adapt your deck afterwards once you know what faction they will be playing, at least!
@Johnnythefirst Жыл бұрын
I always play with northern realms, and I always use all of my spy cards in the first round, to then pass. Then it's just a matter of crushing them in the two next rounds, mostly with units like the blue stripes that strenghten each other. Once your deck is decent, you'll never lose.
@DeviantDreamers Жыл бұрын
NR is such a solid choice in TW3. I do wish that the other factions were a bit more powerful- while they can certainly be used to win, they do require more deliberate deck planning and thoughtful strategy than just dropping spy cards and decoys constantly. I think my second favorite is Skellige because of a similar premise to what you said (plenty of Tight Bond and Muster units) as well!

@@Johnnythefirst Oh no!! Fair enough, though ^^ I really like Skellige because I can play a deck that seems weak at first glance, but comes in clutch towards the end haha 👏 Maybe I’ll see if I can make a more faction-specific “tips” video in the near future to see if that might help out! Although, I am currently working on another project at the moment… I’ll add it to my list 😂

It show you never played against strong Nilfgardian deck ;) Remember - if you give your spies all at once some may be 'stolen' by decoy, other resurected by medic and so on... I also like NR most, while skellige... ehh, just hate it - it's fraction that depend on luck too much - to use it properly you need to put a lot of cards on hand... and later only luck decide - do you get hand with power ~300 for round, or end with miserable sh*t... I completly agree with dwarves from Toussaint in this matter... hands away from gwent! :'D

i always play scoia tael with biting frost perk versus monster decks. doesn't matter if they have the commander's horn perk or the medic one, the monsters are mostly close ranged units so biting frost is always handy with scoia tael because you can just load up on ranged cards and a commander's horn. Also, the Novigrad cards are bugged in the gwent book because Thaler counts as two cards for some reason

imho wheather cards are useless in any given way. Foltest with that clear wheather ability is the goat in case some dummy nps will draw some. To prove the point, weather cards have been played quite a bit less moving to an endgame
@DeviantDreamers Жыл бұрын
I 100% agree that the clear weather Foltest card is SUPER strong! But, of course, that’s if you’re playing NE. If you play another faction, I still think keeping one or two in your deck might be wise, personally (especially clear weather) for desperate measures. That being said, clear weather cards in particular are often kept for endgame usage among the NPCs as well… so, it can be a tough decision to make if you “waste” a weather card too early for sure!
@GHRTaco Жыл бұрын
I love Gwent, still learning though. I have found that I play best when I just throw the first round, I mean pass immediately.
@DeviantDreamers Жыл бұрын
I would assume that this holds true for you because you have a “card advantage” going into round two since you’re passing right away. I definitely wouldn’t suggest that in the future (especially if you’re facing an opponent with a ton of spy cards) because it can be incredibly risky and is usually low reward, but if you apply this strategy when used with spy cards of your own, it can work well! If you play your spy cards right away, you can gain the card advantage immediately at the start of the game and should be able to win from there, regardless of whatever points you put down in round 1. If you “thin” the rest of your deck first by playing the other cards in your hand and saving spy cards for round 2, you can still get your opponent to play a decent amount of cards at the start of the game, and then pick up a card advantage in later rounds. That being said, this could be more risky since you won’t know what you’re working with, exactly, until later on. Hopefully, this strategy might work for you in the future- keep me posted! Thanks again for watching, and I’m glad you’re enjoying Gwent!! 😊
