Best Handling Practices - Bamfield Science Fishing!

Following up on last year, Brendan heads to the UBC Marine Research center in Bamfield, BC. He participates in a new study looking to discover the effects of sport fishing on caught and released salmon. Brendan goes through all of the details and process of the study which measures oxygen levels of salmon during angling events and compares it to their resting oxygen intake. This unique study could help with establishing best practices for releasing fish in the future.

Can you gaff release when you have a double hook on? How do you release if you are using either live herring or a herring plug? Thanks

Why do people still use a flasher? Kone Zone aka daisy chain flasher so much better. Clean fight with no flasher in main line. Way more fun and land more fish.

I'm just a poor slob but I get to fish all the time on the South Island for Salmon, Hali and Steelhead. I gillnet with my brother in Barkley, every season mostly so I can get a season's worth of Sockeye heads for Hali bait. You get to do some pretty awesome stuff. Have you been to Chile yet?
