Great info 👍, here in Colorado ( Ridgway) 7,300 ft & going to plant 4-5 different varieties of bare root apple trees this week . Liberty , Goldrush, Enterprise, looking for a Frostbite also that you mentioned in another video !🍎🙂. These are all very hardy & disease resistant varieties. @Orchardpeople have you done a podcast about grafting apple scions onto the Pacific "Swamp" Crabapple tree (malus fusca)? I just started grafting this year and have 5 or 6 swamp crabs and grafted probably 30-40 scions onto the swamp Crabapple and some of them have grown around 3ft, maybe 3.5ft. They were grafted between mid march to mid April 2024. I'm amazed at how well they are doing and I'm surprised it's so difficult to find much information about others grafting onto the swamp Crabapple trees. What is very nice is that swamp crabs thrive where most apple rootstocks would drown or not thrive.

@@rob4263 Oh my gosh, that is very interesting! So you have a wet site? I'm going to look into this. I know that researchers are trying to develop rootstocks that are drought resistant, but this will solve the problem for growers on soggy sites. Thanks for sharing!

@Orchardpeople yes, about 3 acres of a wet field, especially wet in winter months. There's a number of swamp Crabapple trees that do thrive in the wet area. Like I mentioned I'm shocked that more people don't seem to know about this. I'll be very interested to hear your podcast if you do one regarding what can people do who want apple trees but their area is too wet for most apple trees. Malus Fusca is a great answer in my humble opinion. There are some nurseries who sell malus fusca rootstock but likely listed as Pacific Crabapple rootstock. Thanks for all you do!!!
