I’ve had my Audio Technica ATH-M50x’s for 5 years now. I’ve taken care of them, and they’ve lasted for so long. I recently replaced the ear cups, and they sound brand new. For the headband, I had to buy a sleeve because the leather started flaking pretty bad. So for $175 for the headphones, and $30 for maintenance in 5 years, they’ve been amazing. Used for producing, DJing, and casual listening when I’m relaxing. Definitely one of the top 5 best investments I’ve made for myself. That said, no matter what headphones you settle on, the only thing to remember is you need to learn what they sound like so that you know what to listen for while producing.

The M50X's are tanks. Not the most comfy but it does help in allowing you to take breaks from producing to let your ears "reset". Sonically, I love the slight V shaped tuning they have as it makes casual listening a bit more enjoyable than something completely flat, and because of this, it leads to me having a much better understanding of its sound signature and better translate that into my mixes. Also, they don't take much to power them thus being a pretty good option to take on the go, or you could even get the proprietary Bluetooth adapter if you feel like it.
@mttlsa6862 жыл бұрын
yes they're pretty good for the price but they have a big annoying problem for me...the drivers are too much close to the ear and after a while they really hurt my ears because the drivers are actually, physically in contact with the ear.

🎧 Audio Technica ATH m50x's here 🎧 - someone who predominately creates hip-hop lo-fi music , I found these the best as I jumped from consumer to studio headphones. They're comfortable, and at first I didn't understand that studio headphones were meant to be 'flat' but now I can't unhear the clarity and quality in these headphones. Defo recommend to new producers and people who enjoy clarity within music. (Plus that ickle bit of bass makes them nice to study different genres of music)

How are they working for you...ive been into making beats lately for uploadeing etc.. been looking at the audeze lcdx and tested them out yesterday, very nice with as much low end as you can throw at them... how are those Audio Technica ATH m50x' for low end translation to other speakers, headphones etc.... thanks
@RDevMusic2 жыл бұрын
@@steve5662 Hey Steve, I'd say that once you understand the sound profile of the m50x's (or any headphone for that matter) the translation is quite effortless. These headphones allow you to hear what the producer/composer intended you to hear. Looking at the price of the Audeze lcdxs and not having conducted the research, I feel comfortable enough to say, I don't know if a £900+ different in price will show that much of a difference from the m50x's (but I'm not an expert so I wouldn't know). And another thing I keep noticing is when I watch composing or producing videos, I notice the m50x's everywhere. In orchestral recordings for soundbanks, producers using them to record vocals and as their main driver, so I feel that the reputation of audio technica is already there. Even the fact that people have had the headphones for 10+ years and just change the cushions on them shows the quality of product that it is. Let me know what you decide to go for.

@@RDevMusic I have been soo neurotically going through all the headphones and calibration software... I just trid my sony xm4 with sonarworks and it did make them flat... BUT if I mix something on the flat "curve" I know it will sound way too bassey without the software enabled.. and how can I hear the bass iF the software basically takes away all the bass... the lcdx sounded great alone, I did have ear fatigue after half hour of checking bass heavy hip hop tracks but the phones sounded great and to mix with that sound would be wonderful... just cant figure out if I mix something on flat and boost it to sound great, wont it sound way too much on normal speakers phones?... making me crazy :)

@@steve5662 Hahah it's a learning curve! Even using the monitors I have, it took me a few months to adjust and slowly understand their profile. Now when I export a song after mixing them using my monitors, I can find that sweet spot a lot easier than when I first got them. I think the main things should be 1) Comfort. 2) sound quality that makes you want to create. Sometimes a too flat sound isn't the best thing, even though 'theoretically' it sounds the best. I've heard people mix on various headphones/monitors and their mixes sounded crisp. So trust what you feel. It was like my first set of monitors were KRK, which let through quite a bit of bass, so when mixing you keep that in mind, vs my Adam Audio monitors which are a little bit flatter, so I take that into consideration when mixing. I'm slowly getting back into polishing up tracks and releasing stuff, so will give you some more updates regarding use of m50x's. p.s. I just got a pair of the XM4's, some of the best consumer headphones i've ever used!

I use Steven Slate VSX headphones for mixing and mastering.. I have no space for acoustic treatment in my apartment. My headphones can emulate other headphones and studios in a bunch of plugins and I can switch my headphones to like 10 different studio headphones like the M50 or 770's. These saved my life to be able to put out great quality music without using any studio monitors.

MDR-7506 are under 200$. With SonarWorks it balances the harsh high frequencies. I would always have muffled mixes lacking brightness because of the high-frequency boost in the MDRs. With the SonarWorks calibration I instantly got mixes to translate better

@TjMoon913 жыл бұрын
I recommended doing a direct comparison with the 990 pros. Maybe money isn’t really an issue for you but I found the difference not to be worth the price. The 990s sound great. And I imagine the gap gets even smaller once they’re both running through sonarworks

Been using the HD600s for some years. Great midrange, good highs, nice and flat, but low bass is a bit lacking. Most importantly, the longer I’ve used them, the better my mixes are when I use them. Takes a couple of years to really “know” a headphone, I think, at least for me. I can usually nail that bass pretty decently on them now, since I know how their bass responds . 🎧

I'm rocking the Massdrop X Sennheiser HD 6XX. It's a community design partnership Massdrop did with Sennheiser as a revision of the HD 650's, but in a different color and the nameplates swapped. German created, manufactured in Ireland. The sound signature and driver structure hasn't changed and is still the same as the HD 650's. The best part is they cost $220 instead of the $400 the original HD 650's go for. Seemed like a good deal to me, I'm happy with them.

I am no pro like Decap but a multi use pair of headphones you can use for work, exercise , making tunes or whatever is the Sonymx4000 ($300). While advertised as bluetooth, noise cancelling in fact they are also great unpowered hardwired headphones for making beats. You get a general pair of good cans that also happen to be world class noise cancelling and blue tooth when doing other things. Good audio range as well. ~$300 for a pair of headphones that will last you for years for just about anything, they also have a decent mic so you can use em for work Zoom calls in our covid world. oh they also have an ambient sound mode with turns them to enhanced open :) which is cute. p.s. buy an extension male to male cable ($5) if you re using them as hardwired, they come with an insulting 4" cable :) Great vid thank you!
