Humans don't sense movement so much as changes in velocity, we don't sense a difference in sitting down on the ground and sitting on a plane going 600 mph, we just sense the changes from 0 to 600, and then back to 0

Scientists are legit researching the "gut feeling". There's some legitimate reasoning to that and the weird vibes you get from certain people. Basically, it involves a special way the brain process information subconsciously, and also mirror neurons that are able to detect subtle changes in facial expressions and other behavioral hints. Not as supernatural as a precognitive seventh sense, but very interesting anyway. Also, humanity wins again by knowing how to lead a target

Pretty cool and thanks for sharing and fueling my curiousity. There's definitely something to walking away from a problem for a bit or sleeping on it then approaching it afresh. I approach it a different way - putting the problem on the back burner and letting it perculate, so to speak. Our subconscious (or whatever the appropriate term is in this case) is an (a semi?) autonomous system that regulates breathing, brain function, etc, so why not actively try to harness it by making it search the latent ifo we have filed away in some dusty seldom accessed area of our brains? Could be I'm just talking out of my rear end but there seems to be something to it in my experience. Cheers

Nothing to laugh about. It's a proven phenomenon. Sensing real danger without quantifiable and readily identifiable indicators is a real and documented thing that has been studied for a long time. Not everyone is good at it, and it can be trained, but The unconscious mind can instantly pick up on clues and patterns the conscious mind would take days to pick out and describe. It's weird, and most science that claims to be able to quantify and manipulate the ability is pseudoscience. 🤷

@@noppornwongrassamee8941 I increasingly suspect that many actually have "anti precog" - a complete inability to see the utterly fucking obvious results to their stupid or short term thinking. As a History Nerd, I accept it has always been a thing, but OMG the numbers nowadays! Time to take all the safety labels off things, cancel all lawsuits for moronic injuries, and thin the herd.😹
@donanthebarbarian517711 ай бұрын
In a fight between 2 forces with precognition abilities it's only useful if one side has significantly stronger precognition than the other as 2 equals will cancel each other out either by both checking the same spot in spacetime and trying to nudge the outcome in opposite directions or by each kicking onto 2 equally important battles and bringing about victory for their side. Whereas if there's a significant difference in precognition ability one side sees how it goes without interference and judges that in their favor while the other side sees how it goes with the first sides planned interference and can nudge things in their favor.

So wait... They're responsible for "crippling" our adorable little psycho brats and crotch goblins?? THANK YOU!! Not only did you give us time to pass on what we learn, but we get a good couple of decades of bonding time as we tend to the helpless little poop factories. It's also the time that we develop the imagination and pattern recognition you call precognition - which it is, technically. It does explain teenagers. 🤔 Considering that, without being "crippled", they would be as independent as they think they should be. The slower development of the prefrontal lobe allows understanding of what they learn in that time to sink deeper, in my opinion... Provided they listen, to both the teachers and the lesson.😅 So, yeah. Thanks. 😊

great job NN, though the story was lackluster, my have 2 main problems one of which is that place is not a a sense, or at least not a main sense, and in the story it is quasi-linked with movement, which again is not a sense... place and movement has more to do with memory than anything else (maybe memory should be made into a sense?) which brings me to the 2nd problem, the example of precognition less psychic future telling and more of recognizing patterns; an example of precognition would be of someone knocking on the door and someone precognizant opens withen 2 seconds, or you need ask some important question and they suddenly show up

the idea is that within the setting its not something so common to other beings that it may as well be precognition. with enough understanding and information you can make predictions. the concepts is basically similar to the idea of comparing technology to magic.
@ETOILEPHANTOME7 ай бұрын
@@zefellowbud5970 not really, precognition is predictions without prior knowledge of what you’re predicting, just like magic is sort of the bending of reality. @@ETOILEPHANTOME im not saying they are the same thing. im saying that within the story they are comparable. the aliens within this story seems incapable of prediction, subconscious guess, and pattern recognition based prediction. that to them we basically have precognition. if it were in any other story that explores other concepts you would have robots called golems guns referred to as staves or staffs head phones as long distance telepathy chemistry referred to as alchemy drone cameras as far sight vehicles referred to as metal beasts. just like as you say pattern recognition is not precogntion, a car is no metalic animal. but thats the description that would often come about in these sorts of stories. never said they were equal only that they are comparable, and these sorts of stories especially within HFY often have that as a writing trope. heck even dune does this prescience [knowing an event before it has occured without prior knowledge] which it replaces what within the setting computers would have done for their interstellar travel. so its assumable that the story is implying that prescience is probably mathematical. even if the definition of the word itself is not mathematical. word use in stories are not as rigid as it is in dictionaries especially not in stories like these. if something is comparable it will be compared. like metaphors and analogies. water certainly ain't money but i sure do often hear them compared. excuse me if this response was rather long. either had alot of thoughts on the topic. or its just adhd.

I think they mean your place in space in relation to the rest of your body, which is a sense. It's hard to explain, but I had the flu once, and it completely messed with my senses. If I didn't have my eyes open, I felt like I was spaghettifying. That's not very pleasant. Your sense of space keeps you from feeling that. Try putting your arm behind your back but don't touch your back. You still know it's there. That's your sense of space.
