I think the council's next move might be a message to the humans, something along the lines of "we know what the Xalaxians did is bad, we've been trying to get evidence for years, but could you maybe not wipe them out?"

On one hand karma finally bit these squidlips in the ass. But on the other hand, even taking their warcrimes into account this is xenocide. Honestly I feel bad for the Xalaxians... or at least this one.

By the sounds of it.. The humans of this story *are* at least focusing on taking the homeworld, leaving any that are not on the path untouched. This means that is certainly a genocide.. But it isn't "to the last soul", it's "to the end of the empire". That implies there's an ending where when the last slave is freed from it's shackles, so too are the surviving members of the race also freed from theirs. Maybe I've read too much 40k if that seems like an acceptable cost in a scifi setting..

Yes genocide is bad. But considering this; This was first contact for those humans. Slavery is alive in the universe. Got to make them feel like: you touch a human, you die. They were warned and ignored it. Geneva became a checklist.

One second qualifies as a moment. Sixty seconds in a minute, sixty minutes in an hour, and 24 hours in a day multiplies out to 86,400 "moments" per day. Consider the bare minimum for hundreds is 150 (rounded up). This multiplies out to 12,960,000 per day. Considering the time involved between attacks, yeah this sounds about right for a low estimate of an average value.

It's too early to say if this story will wind up being a one-shot, but the author _will_ need to do some serious back-filling (and scale adjustment) to make this a good series. I'd like to see more than the typical 'humans MAD, humans smash' (even if it's HFY) story...but that's up to the author to sell it.

Hi there, im actually the author for No Kill Like Overkill. I dont plan on adding more to this story at the moment as it plays out pretty well as a short story, however that may change if i start feeling a strong passion to continue it. However, i am currently working on a much larger story in the HFY setting, as well as a few more short stories that i have ideas for.

Sends a message, warning them "we will collect our people from the ashes of your empire" doesnt send a clear enough message unless you follow it up with proof of intent. If it was simply a smash and grab the aliens would still underestimate human capacity for Violence and would not be sufficiently cowed. Now after the first couple planets i would ask if they are willing to listen now though.

Do we know if the author ever did a part 2, as this one is screaming for it. This is the end result of so many scifi first contacts, though most prominently Mass Effect, that we never get to see from the Human's winning POV. It is effectively the opposite of the Mimbari War of Babylon 5, with the humans dominating, and they DID make that one request. Mind, it does beg the question, do they HAVE anymore human slaves, if so, then they're idiots. If not, then I'd surrender, and humanity DOES sometimes have mercy in these situations, though given they're continuing onward, it sounds like you still have something they want.
