That makes me think, though. Would a person without any arms be better or worse at running? They are lighter so they can go faster and/or longer, but it would be harder to balance

As i said before. The idea behind persistent hunting is to see who can go the farthest, not to see who can get there that fastest.

This is one of the reasons that horses didn't replace oxen as work animals until we invented the iron horseshoe around the end of the viking period. Horses just couldn't work in wet soil for long enough with just bare hooves.

This is something that happened in real life, it was in the Olympic races I think I can't exactly remember but the one who was in first place ripped the muscle and fell over and the one who was in second place stopped and carried him across the finish line

Now that I think of it, the tortoise and hare story could have been created to teach young children of hunters and gatherers the persistence hunting strategy. I'm pretty sure I'm wrong but do we know when that story was made? And when you put it into the context of persistence hunting it really does add up.

what? just a single Marathon? people out here be doing 100Km races: slightly over a double Marathon at a jogging speed of 5Km/h it's about 20 hours so completely feasible, but most psychopaths that do this race are much faster. and people out there trying for longest distance are over 300Km over a 24 hour period(Aleksandr Sorokin 2022) and way over 500Km in a single run(Dean Karnazes 2005, over an 80 hour and 44 minute period of constant running around 560Km) which are absolutely bonkers insane.

I remember a story like this that I can’t find about an alien being forced to write a horrible tragic story as a cover up to humanity as a way for first contact What he writes disgusts him but the contents of the book is basically an accidental tragedy about a few people comically falling off a skyscraper Then the alien bureaucrats come in and sit with him, and show him the unfathomable horrors of humanity that seem like Lovecraftian horrors to them while we accept them as tragedies Genocide, war, rape, incest, torture, sadism, terrorism are inconceivable to them He hands in his book as it is and gives up, stating that the entire galactic community would be bulldozed by these monsters when they learn the truth Leaving it to some other poor alien to write It’s hard to sift through and find this gem

Well Tf you were doing running on bare hooves? There are hooved animals on earth too you know, no insult meant, they were used to carry burdens over broken terrain for millennia! We had to do something to protect our hooved partners from injury, so we invented metal hoof covers. They are shaped like the bottom part of the hoof, nailed in place(it does not hurt i swear, though it might take some getting used to) to protect the hoof. Really dude, you're competing against so many species, you'd think one of them would have some tricks you don't know about. BTW That was a foul deed, whoever committed it, should be ashamed of themselves! Injuring the obvious winner like that! Please! If you are of my species, i am ashamed for you. Clumsy obvious, crude! There are better ways , ways that wont get you arrested.
