I picked up a Sig Romeo 8H about a yr ago & have been blown away. @@225degrees due to the nature of how the optic functions it couldn't be totally eliminated, but as I understand it from doing my research they reduced it. But even then, you have to experience temperature shift more extreme than most of us will ever see. Also, most electronic optics suffer thermal drift to some degree so it's not like eotech is the only one. They just screwed up by not listing it accurately and got the spotlight put on them. As a side note, eotech has the least amount of parallax shift compared to other brands like Aimpoint, which arguably is going to impact your shooting way more than what the optic does when you go from a super cold environment to a super hot environment on the same day. Eotech is still an excellent optic but so many people just ran with the issue like it was the end of the world. I heard that MARSOC didn't trash their existing eotechs either so it can't have been that bad.
@225degrees4 жыл бұрын
@@jeffr5552 Big gov selecting or keeping a piece of kit does not indicate quality gear. The thermal drift occurs at ALL TEMPS and the EOtech optic does not return to zero. They also have inconsistent click values, have a pathetic submersion rating, are heavy, their battery life is a joke by comparison, and they suffer parasitic drain on the battery. www.bluesheepdog.com/2015/12/07/eotech-in-trouble/ Read the whole story, and look for the legal disposition. There were many issues, the so called thermal drift was but one of them. Unfortunately, most people would rather parrot what they read online or hear from others, than do their own research. Corrected issues or not, Eotech/L3( EOTech is now owned by Koucar management company) knew for nearly 10 years that they were selling soliders, LEO's and citizens defective pieces of shit. Why anyone would be willing to purchase products from a dishonest company with zero morals is beyond me. I couldn't care less if the management has changed either. FUCK EOTECH.

I have both the Sig Romeo and Aimpoint Comp5s. What happened to the Aimpoint doesn't surprise me. Of the entire optic, the red dot intensity adjustment knob really disappointed me right out of the box. Adjustments were not accompanied by solid, "clicks," but rather a mushy/vague rotation. It just felt cheap. My T2 doesn't seem to have this problem, even though itsa, "cheaper," optic. One of the downsides of the Sig red dot is (of course) its bulk. This translates into a bit of a blind spot for the offhand eye when using, "both eyes open," sighting (a red dot staple). It is also heavier than my Leupold LCO (which I like quite a bit). For me, the final vote was for the Sig Romeo (on a B&T APC 300). Durability, extended battery life, and the, "shake awake," tech gave it the edge. Good optic, in my opinion...

Damn straight I'm going to criticize the thermal stress testing. While there is some value behind the exposures rendered, a freezer and oven could be a much more thorough exposure if given enough time to acclimate. Granted, most household appliances available don't have precise incremental temp settings but a thermometer can be used in conjunction to gather that data or make adjustments. Humidity exposure is important as well, this is can be tested a few ways. The easiest would be to put the optics outdoors immediately after removing from the freezer, assuming your test location has decent relative humidity. I'd like to see the immersion test again, after a modified thermal exposure test. Wouldn't hurt to perform several cycles to see if the extremes degrade waterproofing. Magnetic exposure and maybe even chemical exposures would be interesting as well, common household shit... bleach, ammonia, gasoline, diesel, oils, solvents. All before subjecting to blunt force trauma, of course, as already exercised. If you really wanna step it up, invest in some real lab equipment, but you might have to wait until you hit the 1M subscriber mark
