The director of Shot Caller actually got himself employed at a prison for I think a year. It's a great movie. So underrated.

After 22 yrs and counting working in state corrections, Shot Caller is the most accurate and close to reality example I've seen from the movie industry. I agree with you totally on this one!

I saw Eastern Promises some years ago and was very impressed but like you said this is the kind of movie where people leaving a theater would have been pretty quiet. I need to see it again and check out the two you mentioned.

I recently watched Unhinged with Russell Crowe. I thought it did a good job at juxtaposing both the violence done by a person who is willing to cross the line and the blindness of a victim who thinks that no one would cross that line.

And one time you mentioned COLLATERAL by Tom Cruise thats good one also.

When you started to talk about movies with a lot of "real" violence, Vigo Mortensen's movies came to my mind...

Great movie Bad Day at Black Rock with Spencer Tracy. Thiers a short fight Scene with Spencer Tracy and Ernest Borgnie where Spencer Tracy is being needle by Ernest Borgnie, Tracy plays a WW2 vet who lost an arm in the war and is trying to find the Father a American Japanese WW2 vet and Borgnie threatened Tracy with Bodily harm , Tracy mop up the floor with him using old school WW2 Combatives. It's one my favorite 🎬 scene . I'm not sure if have ever seen the movie but i would like to hear your opinion on that fight Scene. 😉

Check out A Prophet with Tahar Rahim. Its a French film that is increadible. One of the best mob movies ever and quite possibly the greatest prison movie ever made. Nothing but realism. Excellent film.

I remember when Braveheart came out it was a decent representation of,close quarters violence. Crushing someone's back with a hammer...slitting a throat...horrible.

Eastern Promises is indeed hard to watch at times, esp the shower scene.

Good choice, I actually have seen and own all 3, and they are indeed rare works of film as far as violence goes.

I will always go back to the original Rambo movie, First Blood and the scene where he escapes from the jail. Used very down and dirty fighting and focused on vulnerable targets....ino the best realistic fight scene in a movie, not that these others were not great.

For ugly, uncomfortable viewing, watch Once Were Warriors. No kung fu. Just people who are nasty when drunk, and nastier when vengeful.

Forget Hollywood. Look at Bollywood. Watch Mirzapur on Amazon Prime. Truly Brutal realistic violence.
