I don't like seeing a cougar die. I usually skip forward that part. I know it's legal & their numbers need to be under control. I'm also aware that they're dangerous & have been known to take down pets & even humans but a part of me thinks such magnificent creatures need to be left alone.

@Pusydragon_.22 күн бұрын
Somewhat but it’s harder to hit an why would you wanna risk hittin the smaller target an the animal runnin away then getting it in a good spot that jus drops it lot easier to hit
@FarmerFpv18 күн бұрын
If it's an easy shot and you don't care about the rack then take a headshot. When shooting long distances you want to go for mass. The same reason police officers shoot center mass rather than taking headshots unless it is a hostage situation. When you have buck fever the easiest shot can become a nightmare, especially for those with not many hunters under their belts.

Hey yall! I am new to big game hunting. Wanted to ask everyone what their shot preference is for bucks: Heart, Lungs Only, High Shoulder, Neck, Head? Also curious as to what your confidence is when taking that certain shot. Thanks yall
@MuleyFreak22 күн бұрын
Aiming for the lungs/heart gives you more area to hit, that being said the heart is tasty so it's nice to not shoot it, but if you do it puts the animal out faster. If you can hit high shoulder/top of lung you can drop the animal in it's tracks but risk taking out back strap or just spining the animal and not killing it. Head is a smaller area that constantly moves so that's a risky shot and if you care about the skull or antlers you risk damaging them For us a well placed lung/heart shot is always best from any distance, you get a little room for error but best way to harvest the animal. Thanks for the comment!

@@bsalley76 None of them are questionable shots. You are not seeing them from the correct perspective. Most of the ones that look like gut shots are quartering shots. Not unless you feel sorry for the animals you displaced where you built your house, the roads you drive on, the office you work at, the shopping center you shop at, the restaurants you eat at, the airports you travel with, the fields your food comes from…. Since you do all of these things hunters harvest the extra animals that are now crowded into a smaller area. Plus they enjoy getting their own food, natural protein. Everyone hunts including you, you use a dollar bill and have others to it for you. Without proper management there wouldn’t be the wildlife that exist today. Hunters do more for conservation, saving wild areas and the animals big and small than any other group. To answer your question, no they don’t. They understand life and don’t feel bad. They are are feeding their families with the meat while helping manage all the wildlife.

I hope I can be constructive with my criticism because I'm a hunter and hunters need to be united. With that being said, these videos make it look like it's all about the kill. It seems like the entertainment value is only held in ending something's life. Hunting is about conservation, time outdoors and with family. These clips don't depict any of that. I feel like showing the process as a whole represents the community well. These kill clips send the message to folks outside our circle that folks who hunt just like to kill stuff. It potentially sends a message that we don't respect the animals but disregard their lives. Have a nice weekend.

Why kill apex predators like Mountain Lions?! They control the deer!
@christopherdavila4339Ай бұрын
The reason why predator hunting / control is important in wildlife conservation is precisely because they affect prey species numbers. In a natural system free of all man-made influences, life doesn't sit perfectly balanced like people tend to believe. It seasaws back and forth in cycles of boom and bust. Prey species grow in population and eventually overpopulation happens and they end up exhausting food sources and have mass die offs due to starvation and diseases spreading due to area over population and declined health due to stress and inadequate nutrition. While this happens the predator population grows due to the abundance of prey and when the prey supply suddenly declines in an area they either move on or suffer die offs themselves depending on species. The lack of predation means the prey species can rebound and start the cycle again. However once you throw human agriculture and development into the mix both fragmenting suitable habitat and adding additional prey choices like livestock, pets and in some cases humans themselves the cycle goes crazy. Exploding predator populations find themselves with a lack of suitable territory and start having negative impacts on prey populations as well as starting conflicts with people as they start turning to the relatively easy to hunt and kill livestock and pets when their natural prey starts becoming hard to find. A great example of this type of mismanagement is Mountain lions in California. They outlawed hunting of them and now they are overpopulated in the state and there are many many cases every year of livestock losses ( which not only hurts the ranchers and farmers bottom line but makes it more difficult for wildlife agencies to get them to work with them on conservation projects) and of pets being attacked and killed as well as several severe and a few fatal attacks on humans. There are also dozens of lions killed by ADC agents and L.E officers each time costing taxpayer dollars and when this happens the animals are then destroyed... completely wasted. Predators like Mt lions and Bear in states where they are managed as big game animals cause fewer issues and bring in much needed money in the form of license and tag fees which goes straight into wildlife conservation. They are also edible and actually make very good table fare believe it or not so one killed by a licensed hunter is not going to waste like one shot by a ADC agent.
