Spring bear used to be my favorite hunt because it got my hunting season started. Hunted Idaho last year but no luck. My go to rifle has been a browning 300 wsm.

Why do you think you were unsuccessful?
@johnecrouch26718 ай бұрын
@@MuleyFreak Mostly it was question of timing. We actually used an outfitter that I’ve hunted with before. It’s a combination baiting and spot and stalk. But, we went earlier than we have before and spring was late coming to that part of Idaho. Snow made some places unreachable and green up was slow too. So bears weren’t very active yet and my time was limited.

The state black bear record, and perhaps the world record, was broken in November, 1998, when Coy Parton killed an 880-pound bear near Vanceboro in Craven County. The bear exceeded the old state record by 160 pounds. The PA record weight for a black bear in Outdoor Life is 732 lbs. There's been larger ones too but there was something about it having been fed or something, i cant remember. We have 800 lb black bears in PA's woods I'm sure of it. 😮 They get big, but that's not at all an average sized bear. A guy i grew up in the same small town with shot one years ago that was 660 lbs. And thats not even in the top 20.

What's your preferred rear shooting bag for taking the long backcountry shots with optimized stabilization? I run a Long Range Only bag often but never for a serious backpack hunt as it is just too heavy to carry. I would love to find a similar bag that is ultralight if such a bag exists. Thanks.

Way to go guys. Hunt them so they don't hunt us😊 question: does the bear die from sheer terror/alarm of being shot and suffered heart attack or is it purely round power and placement; or does it just bleed out? Just hard to believe something as tenacious as a bear 🐻 dying from single shot.
@metalmamasue36802 ай бұрын
Bears are tough, they can take a fatal shot and run a bit or mess you up and ruin your day before they go down. Idk but I don't think it's terror or fear.

Folks choose to hate on things they don't agree with and don't understand entirely. I'm not saying you're that guy, but if most folks knew how difficult a precision shot like that was they would have a heckuva lot more respect for it. I understand , but it's not the 1800s anymore . For people living far into the wilderness I can understand harvesting some of the bounty you refer to , but wildlife habitat is being quickly depleted around the world and killing animals for fun and pretending it's for food is baloney . Or so you can stick a trophy on the wall to try and impress people . Let's leave what is left of the wilderness to what lives in that ecosystem and keep it pristine and flourishing .
