Main thing you have to watch out for on older sensors non bsi sensors is they have slower readout speeds. So rolling shutter on the Z5 is worse compared to the Z6 and even the Z50. At $1000 I’d seriously consider the Fuji XS10. Fast readout speed + ibis + fully articulating screen makes a compelling video package.

I got a s5 and I’ve taken some amazing photos with it. And to be honest the autofocus hasn’t been bad especially in photos. It’s had its moments but there hasn’t been anything I wasn’t able to work around. When I bought it I got it brand new for 1500 got 2 for 3k. And I’d definitely put it up against the a7iv the r6. Lens lineup needs some work but beside that I’d say it’s the best bang for the buck

For some low budget video - the smartphone you already have + smartphone gimbal like OM 4, OM 5 or similar. Learn how to use it, learn some about light, learn a bit how to edit - you are good to go. And if the budget is not low - lucky you. There are A MILLION options...

I picked up the NIkon D780 which has the Z6 sensor inside and 2 focusing systems for photo and video. I like it a lot and I don't need to buy Z lenses. Fits my budget. Although a bit big for a walkaround camera, I use it mostly for Pro work which it excels with its BSI sensor 24MP and my collection of FX lenses. I may get a Z5 used at a later date and a Z 24-70mm F4 once I save up some funds, or sells off one of my Canon apsc cameras and some lenses. "One CAN have too many cameras!" (although should not.) Need to sell off some of the older ones I have.

It's not that it doesn't take great photos, but I do think there are better options if you want to shoot photos primarily which is why I mostly talk video. Small sensors have advantages for cost, faster frame rates, lens options, and low rolling shutter for example but for the most part, there aren't many advantages on the photo side

Bought an Olympus EMD1 Mii for $400 with a 2nd Olympus battery. Already have some M43 lenses. M43 bodies weren’t mentioned and should have. Panasonic G9 still their photography flagship with 4K video plus the GH 5or 6 are good options. Love Fuji. XT4 has IBIS as well as the XT5, XH2 &S, plus the XS10. Very good hybrid bodies. How can you recommend so many cameras with many of them having a 15-30min time record limit for video and photo? Had the S5II been out when I made this it definitely would have made the list but in my opinion people shopping for hybrid cameras are better off with amazing autofocus than 30+ minutes of recording without stopping and I had issues with the autofocus in the original S5. The S5II largely solved that though

I still recommended the S5, as I do plenty of cameras with some obvious weaknesses, but not as much "generally" in videos like this and more in specific situation where I know the advantages out way the disadvantages. Trust me, I get 10x the emails from "hybrid" users, especially with cameras under $2k, about dependable AF performance than I do about 6k, open gate, or pixel shift. But I do think Panasonic has the potential to do big things now that they are starting to fix autofocus and get more native lenses so they are close to being back on my favorite camera list. For video exclusively, I still highly recommend them when AF is less important

I really like the idea of the durability/weather sealing the R3 would offer, as the 1dx series were straight up tanks and could survive anything. But more than anything I want a camera that does both video and photo really well (I do mostly video) and can be my workhorse for years to come.

Definitely hope to have them in for a real test but it seems like Sony will win the capabilities game even though the R3 will be newer and the R3 will offer better weather sealing and battery life if you don't mind the larger body. I'm glad that the R3 does manage to trim weight considerably but why Canon chose to only deliver 24mp is beyond me when obviously people would compare it to the A1 that shoots the same speed with 2x the MP and still offers 4k120 and 8k video. But I fully expect the R3 to have better hardware, screen, IBIS, faster mechanical shutter, and basically anything else that's a physical piece of hardware

I hate not having a viewfinder, the ergonomics are awful, an Switching between video and photo modes is not very easy. every time I have to go and turn off slog3 and turn off view assist to take the photos, then remember to switch it back before filming again and it’s just a big process. Not to mention I’ve got this nagging that I’m just not inspired to pick up the camera and go out and shoot like I used to be with canon. I’m excited at the prospect of getting an R3 and returning to the land of canon 😂

R5?? Really? Overheating? How are you going to use 8k video? For me A7S3 is the best camera for under $4K. If you say about croping or printing, how often do you print like 1x2 meters or crop very heavy? I saw a lot of videos were A7S3 had very good photos and prints of them. R5 is a good photo camera OK, but not a hybrid that is for sure.

So it doesn't overheat nearly as much now as it used to in most modes thanks to many firmware updates and has no overheating issues in the crop mode or in 4k with oversampling turned off. In 8k it will overheat for long recordings but the A7SIII can't even record 8k so not sure why that matters. Also doing anything from skin retouching to masking is more difficult on low resolution cameras without needing to crop and print and while 45mp is probably overkill for most people, you can shoot small/medium raw on the R5 and 12MP on the SIII can be a little low. Even if it does print decently, that's not a resolution high enough for me to send to clients in most cases. They usually want more. I definitely think the R5 is a better hybrid camera. I don't think I would ever recommend the SIII (and I personally own 2 of them) for hybrid or photo work. Obviously I use my SIII when I have nothing else for an IG photo or thumbnail but I think 12mp is too low for most things in any semi professional environment

Sure, most things I shoot are probably fine with that but spending 3 grand on a camera that will suffer with large prints, crops, or potentially be unusable for certain client work is not ideal. I own two cameras, the Panasonic G85 and the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II. They're both good for video, but neither is amazing If you're going to mention the Z5, it's important to understand the 1.7X crop in 4K. That makes it essentially just a 1080p camera. Based on the 1080 footage I've seen, it's pretty good at that, but the 4K is all but useless. If it were 1.5X, at least that would make it work well with DX lenses, but 1.7X means even those lenses will be cropped significantly.

They are really very close. Both have dual cards, high enough resolution, amazing AF, and are rugged enough. The R5 has more MP in case you need it, a better looking screen, and is a bit more rugged but otherwise they are both absolutely effective for wedding photography and I'd absolutely recommend both (and have used both for that personally haha)

So the thing with gimbals is that the actual stabilization ability has been solid with about everything released in the last few years. What has changed is reliability and features. Personally I'd recommend the RS3 Pro: bhpho.to/3SYniGM if you use heavy lenses or the standard RS3 if you use lighter lenses.

Definitely the T7 and image quality is not the big reason. The reason is the T7 is closer to mirrorless cameras in that it has a fully functioning live view system where as the D3500 is more of a pure DSLR so the live view AF is not great and thus you should only use the viewfinder and never the screen. Ive shot both sony a7s3 and r6 extensively and can say, while canon is overall very smooth out of the box, it has some really hefty jerks/jumps (im only talking video!). Sony, especially with „active“ stab in video is smoother, has less wobble and a more natural feel. But for Photo theres no contest i believe, there canon is straight better. But dont read me as a fanboy: the a7m4 is bound to up the r6, it will be almost a year newer so it simply should.

My initial post seems to hurt the canon fans. I didnt intent to. I use both. Canon r6 is amazing. BUT: i would love it if sony squeezed a little extra out of the a7m4…mostly a 6k24p option is what i dream of, but i believe they will just match the r6 with 10bit 4k60, but then still have no overheating, the better dynamic range in SLOG3 and so on. BUT: Sony really needs to improve their screens, we want retina-screens on these Cameras Sony! (And Canon, but theirs are already quite good)

I think very few people should consider olympus. They aren't bad cameras but there are very few benefits right now. The only real benefit is sports/wildlife where you want long focal lengths AND you can't carry larger lenses. Right now that's the only advantage to Olympus

I also had issues with my Z50 with the autofocus when it was bright and the subject was in the shadows. The Z5 could be better than the Z50 as it is full frame, but I would think the S5 is on par with the Z5 in terms of AF, but more capable in video features.

There is a sale for 1400 EU only for the body (a7iii) but i am not sure if its the right choice to buy it. I do drone videography and i want to buy a camera that can make some cinematic scenes with my drone videos however i want also to have the option to take photos. Any suggestions? Also i am a beginner in the camera industry and my budget is around 2000

If you were to buy the A7III, I'd try and find it used. No point in paying new camera prices for a 3+ year old camera. Another new option that is better with video (and still great with photos) than the Sony A7III is the new Canon R8. Not sure the EU price but it's $1500 in the states

Canon r8 was also one of my options however third party lenses are not available which is a bit of a dealbreaker for me and also there isn’t any availability in my current country (Cyprus). I like the fact that Sony has third party lenses that are great and at a better price. I agree A7III may not be my best option thus my other option is A7C and in relate with video capabilities i think it works better and also better colour functions. Nikon z6 ii seems also a great camera

@@johnvisuals_ Got you. So the Z6II is a better camera but Sony is probably a better investment these days especially since Nikon also has limited lens options. The problem is Sony hasn't updated their cameras under $2000 in years and all the big video improvements have happened in the last 2 years so Sony is way behind for video under $2000. The A7III is definitely the better camera for stills and the quality will be the same as the A7c. The A7c got a couple new features that help for video but unless you are getting a super good price on it, I would skip that camera. I would also look at the Sony FX30 which is amazing for video and can still shoot photos if you need to. Otherwise there are some massive improvements in the A7IV for video if you can save up

So canon's M series is in an awkward place right now. My issue is that if you start buying lenses for it, you can never use those lenses on any other cameras and there is a possibility that Canon starts developing a RF series of APSC cameras. So I tend not to recommend them even though they are not bad cameras at all. I just feel like Canon needs a better roadmap strategy for the M series

Currently in the market looking at compact mirrorless cameras, ideally looking for the lower end of price £400-700 camera body (GBP) , liking the look of the Sony A6000 , Olympud OM-D series and the Fujifilm XT (can't find XT200 anywhere instock?) I am not interested at all in taking video with the cameras just hobbiest level stuff using roughly 18-55mm lens and then maybe a bit more zoom at mountain bike races/ holidays and the odd smaller lens for artsy shots. Most photography I do is landscape or urban exploring etc. Could anyone possibly suggest some stuff? It would be greatly appreciated

@Alexandru C. Popescu honestly I gave up bothering looking , the prices are very inflated for not very good specs or very weird camera designs/ features that didn't appeal. I did however get an Insta360 One RS with the 4k boost and 360 lens.

@@learningcameras well a collegue has it and i used it and i owned an S5....i still dont think nikon is in the game .... in my opinion i would go with any sony or canon, if i cant have that then Panny or fuji ... nikon in 2021 ...nah... even olympus is better just they are probably closing , have you used the em1 mii or miii...thats an autofocus mate, still its your list but it seems strange to me since i watch your videos and you seem logical, i guess you are in love with nikon :)

I wouldn't recommend it for hybrid shooting. The BMPCC takes some extra work/time to make it work well and definitely has limitations like no usable autofocus or IBIS, the advantage to the BMPCC is the end result image quality and color which is about as close as you can get to an Alexa under $5000. But if you want to shoot photos as well or run & gun style shooting, I'd get one of the others I mentioned

I really like the SL2 but ultimately it's basically a Panasonic S1R with a Leica logo, and few upgrades here and there at 3x the cost so usually not worth it if you factor in price. But if budget it so issue, I'm a fan although the AF system isn't up to what Sony & Canon are doing just yet.

As a hybrid camera, it doesn't compete with the new stuff. That camera is quite a few years old and video features have been changing like crazy. For photos only, it's still great but if you want to also shoot video, there are other options
