Best Invidia Q300 vs R400 comparison Toyota86 & BRZ

Hi everyone,
When shopping for these exhausts I could not find a good video comparison using high quality microphones. I then decided to make my own using my Rode Mic's that provided a standardised approach to audio comparisons.
My car is a 2013 Toyota 86. The entire exhaust is stock except for the cat-backs. If you have aftermarket exhaust and you live in Sydney, I would love to record your exhaust to make the ultimate comparison video. Thank you for doing this. There are no other comparisons like this that compare the q300 and r400 on the same car. I like the look of the r400 best but my STI is my daily, I leave for work at 6am and I have a 4 year old daughter. I want more rumble, but I want to be able to have a normal conversation inside the car and something that’s not going to wake everyone up when I leave. So I think I need to go for the q300. @@genli9526 No drone bro. When I installed it to the hangers the tips lined up perfectly and theyre adjustable anyway so it won't be an issue.

@@Krojix i was able to pull down on my passenger side exhaust tip before tightening the bolts at which point it stayed in a level position and hasn't moved yet, 9 months later. I happened across this video when contemplating switching the r400 for a q300. but after hearing this I'm deciding to stay with the r400 for sure. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for the video. Currently have the R400 fitted but will try the Q300 after a couple of weeks and then decide which one I like best. I really like the fact that even with the R400, I can still hear the supercharger spin up! So really loving it! :)

@@DJHeroMasta I have a video taken from inside the car by a mate with window down that sounds awesome with the R400 and Sprintex supercharger (well.... I think so! 😎). The thing is, I have no idea how or where I'd post it! The thing about the R400 is that it is a pretty deep sound and if you're chugging along at low revs and don't bother to downshift (which is something you can get away with due to extra torque of SC), you get some pretty serious deep vibrations happening. Which then makes you downshift. Might not happen with the Q300. Don't know... Anyways.... Personally though I wouldn't change just because of that! I park at work in a basement car park and the sound in there is epic. Often the reason I go the work even though I could easily work from home! Ha ha. Fact! 😎

Great comparison video. Still miss having the R400 on my 86 last year for a very brief time before selling it off for fear of being pulled over by an unmarked cop while driving spiritedly (heaps in Melbourne, one stalked me for a brief distance thinking I hadn't noticed his dash panel equipment in my rear vision). Looking forward to pairing either the Q300 or Perrin 2.5" with a catted EL header in future.

Hey Im from Sydney and Im wanting to buy the R400 however you state that it attracted police; just wondering is the R400 really that loud (doesn't seem that loud in video) as there are plenty of cops in Sydney city I wouldn't want to buy something thats going to attract fines :)

Thought the same after seeing the R400 in a video, and it sounded plenty loud in person when I actually got it. It's one of those catbacks like Corsa which are loud on their own, and getting aftermarket headers/front pipe is guaranteed to grab attention. It did die down a little after a few days' settling in, though. I'm currently looking at the Empire Exhaust engine-back package after considering the Perrin and the Q300, which I know to be definitely around the 80db/4000rpm mark for legality. If you really want the R400 though, would be best to just keep your stock parts stored away. As long as you don't floor it going past police cars or unmarked police cars (really just the Commodores and Falcons with extra antennas, although I saw a dude pulled over by an unmarked Camry once), you should be fine.

Have the invidia q300 and I still feel like stock sounds the best in cabin. Q300 sounds kind of hollow bassy but drone free in cabin. Stock you hear the motor really well in cabin

Definitely go with the R or Q if you want to do headers. N1/N2 is obnoxiously loud with headers.

Finally, someone who made a very good video of differences haha. Anyone know how much the r400 weighs? Also I read somewhere that is a common issue about the alignment on the tips that you won't ever get it even, just passable. I have q300 myself and possibly looking for something a bit louder with lighter weight

There are adjustable hangers (4 for $40 I think) that would fix the issue

Yeah, most likely just during installation the hangers were a little bit askew on the car, they’re these rubber things that can rotate so just wiggle it around and centre everything before bolting everything down rly tight and you’ll be good

Hi, I live in Sydney and have a 2021 SUBARU BRZ tS. I am trying to decide between the Q300 and R400 to put on my BRZ. Are they both legal? I do not want constant trouble with the cops. I'm not talking about revving hard all the time and driving like a hoon.... Just normal safe every day driving, following speed limits etc.... Will either of these exhausts cause the cops to constantly pull you over and give you a notice to go get the car tested?

No. They are cat-back exhaust systems which mean they are installed after the catalytic converter, therefore not effecting emissions.

You will not notice the Q300 when you are the driver, but if you are a bystander you can definitely notice it. My issue was that I could never hear it, hence why I bought the R400. Hope that helps.

Is there much sound difference between the n1 and r400? I want something deep with a nice tone and I’m deciding between the 2. It’s hard to tell on KZbin because the camera doesn’t always pick up the sound properly. Except for this video which is awesome thank you.

R400 is ur choice i used all of invidia line and r400 is the best for me sound deep better than n1 and no drone with full catless of invidia + invidia el header

Hi, I'm in Sydney. If you don't mind me asking, where did you buy the exhaust from? I've been looking online through australian websites. But there isn't many options online? Do you know if we have to get modification licence/certificate for the exhaust? Is your car manual or automatic? Sorry i'm new to this. I plan on buying the TS model BRZ. but to change the exhaust. I plan on asking if my dealership can change the exhaust for me, as I really don't want to void the warranty. Thank you.

Hi Lyn, My car is a manual. From what I have gathered, if a modification does not increase performance greater than 20% it does not need a certificate. I bought the exhaust from Yakuza Motorsports, they have a garage in Abbotsbury. I am not sure about the warranty, you would have to check with your local dealer. Cheers

Invidia N1 is also good. Very loud however compared to R400 and Q300. It’s livable if you’re only changing the catback. But if you ever plan on changing headers as well, it becomes obnoxiously loud (imo).

Having N2 on my car recently. Good sound when revving up but has little drone on highway around 3k rpm. A little bit pain for me since most of my drive are freeway so I am selling it and stick to stokc :(

The best set is TOMEI UEL CATLESS HEADER , TOMEI JOINT PIPE (DP), INVIDIA RESONATED FRONT PIPE AND INVIDIA N1 CATBACK. If you want it more louder use INVIDIA CATLESS FRONT PIPE.

No lie with a supercharger. BRZ plus Sprintex 210 SPS plus R400 = simply amazing! :) :)
