@@oatsfavorite No, the only 86 without an IG. Only aesthetics since then. Rattle can gloss black on the winter wheels that came out remarkably well for the cost. Smoke black wrap on headlights and tail lights, came out sloppy but acceptable from afar. Considering lightweight summer setup. Thats about it. Maybe short shift kit in the future.
@oatsfavorite3 жыл бұрын
@@robschaefer4305 Ahh, I'm barely finishing up my aesthetics! I wanted to black out my housing, but that was a tedious route. I heard wrapping headlights wouldn't be good for those that drive for a long distances, since the lights heat up the wrap and it shrivels it. Awesome video man, I've had my q300 for a couple of months now and everything else is stock. I've been trying to decide between the Tomei and the JDL UEL headers for a while and this has made me definitely more on the side of Tomei. But the video was really well made and the comparisons were great so a big thank you!
@gzeus63323 жыл бұрын
Looking at getting the new GR 86, and came to the right place for an exhaust video, I know it will sound a bit different, but this is a great starting place. I always avoided Invidia and Tomei tbh, because I always associate them with drone and being overbearing loud, but that UEL and Exhaust combo sounds fantastic and not to loud! Perfect video my guy!
@robschaefer43053 жыл бұрын
Glad this helped! You're right, Tomei goes hard and when paired with something like the N1 it's numbingly loud. But Invidia really did a great job with the Q300 to deliver the tone without the oppressive volume. Cold start's are little louder than I'd prefer. Waking up early to head out on a hike from a campground, I genuinely feel bad... I keep my toe on the throttle from the jump to bring the revs out of the deep resonant warble. Other than that though, all good. Highway cruising is equal if not more tolerable than stock. Same volume at a less naggy pitch.
@vmfan964 жыл бұрын
Nice vid. That’s the way to drive a BRZ/FRS/86. I’m still on the fence about the q300. Currently have headers tune and light wheels (17” RPF1) . Huge differences from stock. Light wheels made the biggest the difference. I may go for a final drive instead or just just swap in a rear diff from 2017+ .

I know I am very late but I have been eyeing this combo for a bit and just have one main question. How loud is the cold start? is it waking up neighbors type loud? also with normal driving how loud is it, are you able to drive it relatively quiet? also is there any rasp? its hard to hear in the video.
@robschaefer43057 ай бұрын
Admittedly, the cold start/idle is a little louder than I’d prefer. I used to live in a condo development with a communal parking lot, about 50 ft from any dwellings and it was fine. I live in a city now and parallel parked, right next to someone’s bedroom window, I feel bad and try to get moving quickly. If you get on the gas immediately it helps. 2k is significantly less disruptive then the like 1.7k idle which just seems to hit a perfect resonant frequency. So if you’re REALLY close to neighbors, yeah they’re gonna hear it. Normal driving is perfect and undisruptive unless you’re doing like 80mph +, then you can hear it, but still not particularly loud. No rasp.

It'll fix it if you didnt damage the o2 sensors when you installed the headers. If the PCODE keeps coming back after you reset it and tune it, then one of the sensors got damage and youll need to replace it.

Don't know if anyone will reply but to anyone running this: I currently have an unknown cat back with a uel, it has a great subie rumble. Will putting on my q300 get rid of/quiet it?
@robschaefer43053 жыл бұрын
Well it'll sound just like this.... so depends if you count that as quieter. Either way the "warble" will stay, thats generated from the UEL.

Thanks for the video, exactly what I'm looking for. Any noticeable drone with this setup?
@robschaefer43053 жыл бұрын
Virtually none. If you're highway cruising at anything less than 70mph it's barely audible. Above 70mph it's there but no louder than the ever present NVH. I actually prefer this over stock for normal highway duty. Same volume, lower pitched, less naggy tone that fades into the background.

Does it remove the torque dip?
@robschaefer43054 жыл бұрын
jamienharv With header/exhaust/ tune there’s without a doubt a noticeable improvement in the torque dip. Feels flat. It doesn’t make a slow car fast, but it never feels like you’re waiting for the power to show up. I don’t have a dyno to confirm results but there’s certainly spec sheets out there that do.

How much does this setup run total?
@timhayward68333 жыл бұрын
Great vid, I'm looking at very similar setup but with PSR (same as Tomei) UEL and over pipe and Invidia catted high flow front pipe + Q300. Any thoughts on whether this will change the sound much from what you have here, which is very nice BTW? Any reason you didn't do front pipe and over pipe?
@robschaefer43053 жыл бұрын
Thanks and glad to hear. I imagine it would sound largely the same if you’re going with a catted front pipe. Maybe a bit more aggressive assuming Invidia FP has a higher flow? Have to imagine their parts sync nicely together and sound great. Header gives you most the gains and since I wasn’t running a full catless system, left those stock to save some change. Might have left a few HP on the table with that decision but I’m happy with with it. Good luck brother 👌🏽

Hi I have this exact exhaust setup. What tune did you chose for the OFT?
@robschaefer43053 жыл бұрын
I went with the built in "off the shelf" Stage 2+ 93 oct. Additionally, I believe you can write in to OFT and request a custom tune optimized to your exact setup 👍🏽
@marcz94823 жыл бұрын
I don't know man, it kinda sticks out too far. I like the flush look. Sounds annoying enough, I like the brz stock sound you can drive hard without attracting attention. You really don't gain that much HP
@robschaefer43053 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you should prob stick with the stock set up then. You won’t gain much in the way of sheer HP or speed, but the header and tune help eliminate the torque dip. The character of the driving improves significantly in the mid RPM range.
@justinguerrero63573 жыл бұрын
Currently own the q300 and rest stock. I installed it , then removed. I can’t seem to get over the stock sound. It sounds perfect I just wish it was slightly louder. But I’m undecided if I wanna put back on the q300. I do agree stock is best for pushing the car hard for our slow speed.

Whats that rattle you have after you rev? Some plastic vibrating or the exhaust?
@robschaefer43054 жыл бұрын
The parked one from outside the car, I believe is the exhaust itself. At low RPMs it has really deep bassy rumble that I think hits the resonant frequency and just shakes the hell out of the thing. Can’t hear from inside though and doesn’t occur unless lugging the engine from low down. The rattle inside during the pulls is the reverse lockout on the shifter.
@slonkijippie4 жыл бұрын
@@robschaefer4305 Ah ok! Sounds amazing either way, im waiting to get my UEL header shipped, in the meanwhile im trying to figure out what exhaust to go with it. I think i narrowed it down to the Q300 or the Perrin Resonated, seem to be at the volume level and sound i want. Did you ever consider any other exhaust?
@robschaefer43054 жыл бұрын
Also considered the Invidia R400 which is between the Q300 and N1 (sounds better than the Q300 but not as stealth), the Borla, and the Perrin. Corsa nice too. All genuinely sound nice in my opinion, just kinda the vibe you’re going for.
