On voit vraiment du beau newaza chez les féminines. Et la séquence entre Valadier-Picard et Sardalashvili est juste incroyable. Si seulement on en voyait plus souvent des séquences comme celle-ci.

The two bouts at the Tokyo Olympics where Abeshi finished Amandine Buchard with Funakubo Gatame and Chizuru Arai finished Madina Taimazova with Okurierijime These two bouts should absolutely not be ignored when talking about Newaza of 2021 So, it's really harsh not to be able to use the Olympic footage By the way, Taimazova became the most striking Judo player during the Olympics It seemed that many people were surprised by her unusual toughness
@GrapplerKingdom

Yeah, that is unfortunate, Abe's pin on Buchard was one of the my favorite as well. And yeah, Taimazova might not be the best technician, but you can't deny her heart, I'm a fan.

The reason for that is in Judo you're not allowed to attack the leg so everything you do is against upper body only, hence why they could easily give up their back

Also a good number of these are attacking a turtled up opponent (on their elbows and knees). The judo ruleset leads to a lot of turtling after failed throw attempts, because if they can stall on the ground for a few seconds they get stood back up. In MMA the fighters don't have the same incentive to turtle and stall.

The transition is the key. It overwhelms your defense, when done well. In judo ground work is fast pace. Since the rule , only allow limited time on the mat. It’s a different approach to ground work. Then other combat sports, due to the rules. You train to win, on what rules you compete in. Not worse or better , then other combat sports. Just your focus is different to win.
