Though countries around the globe have their own special verities of doner/shawarma, but anywhere, I prefer the Indian/Pakistani corner shop/food truck ones, because I am a spicy guy.. 🌶🤯😅 But alas there is still nowhere yet to beat the "Iskandar kabab" of (Iskandar-Iskandar-oglu's restaurant) of Borsa Turkey, which contrary on popular beliefs where this plate was invented & this restaurant even have a museum to proof it.. 🤔 By luck, I found their branch in Kadikoy-Istanbul, because Borsa is quite a far journey to consider from Istanbul.. 🙄

I worked in Berlin for six months a few years ago, incredible doner and easily the best around. One mistake though, it wasn't bought over by Turkish immigrants, it was actually invented by them in the early 70s in Berlin. If you're still in the city and want to try a great burger then try Mega Burger; fantastic place with great burgers and curly fries and always busy for a reason.

As a German i compare The German-Turkish Kebab Style to Chicago Pizza. With the slight difference no Italian ever wanted to claim the "Chicago Pizza" (heresy) as Italian 😅 😂 🤣. It´s real cultural invention bringing both cultural worlds together to create something new they can share together.

@@kloraq 🤣We found him! The most relaxed Turk. jokes aside. I have seen some toxic comments. But i guess most is due to a misunderstanding. Because often they assume Germany would claim the origins, but its the total opposite. Everybody knows Turkish migrants imported Döner Kebap. Yet its about the specific style to fit the needs of the German market. For me the best Western Kebab Version in Western Europe. I have seen some horrible none-Turkish in Western Europe, even micro waved🤪🤮. And because we are Germans, we even have introduced Döner kebab laws. It shows the amount of respect we give the Döner Kebap . Peace

This is making me nostalgic for Berlin! Imren is in the area of Berlin I lived in for a bit and actually very close on the same street to where David Bowie and Iggy Pop shared an apartment. The good thing about some of the better Berlin döner is that they seem to be able to slice the meat very thinly, so it is a bit crispier, plus the toasted sesame bread is delicious, unlike the industrial pitta we get in the UK that disintegrates. Some of the places I remember going to baked their own breads and durum in house or were bakeries during the daytime. I haven't been since 2015, so I need to get back at some point. Have you tried Döner Haus in Manchester? I've been to the Glasgow branch. It's a bit pricey, but the closest thing to the German version. I need to get to Bursa in Turkey for the real thing though!

I went to Berlin in February and just loved the food, what helps make Germany cheaper is yhe 7 percent vat as apposed to our 20 percent, I will definitely be going back to Berlin, awesome place.😊

You visited my hometown Rochdale recently. I’d recommend probably the best kebab I’ve had so far from K2 spice hut. Which they do the challenger kebab with red donner meat stir fried with chicken tikka, mushrooms, peppers and carimalised onions. About £6

The background of the döner is not quite correct, kebab (which means grilled meat, usually on a skewer) came here through the Turks, but the döner kebab, i.e. the meat in flatbread, was only invented here in Germany by a Turkish restaurant owner, who thought about how to make kebab meat quickly without having to sit down in the restaurant and serve the food on a plate, Kadir Nurman (died 2013) invented the Döner kebab in 1972 and became a Turkish-German national hero, whose name will probably appear in history books!
