A knife is completely unnecessary, no call exist that you would use a knife in self defense as a cop. Cops are not stabbing people. Knives are another weapon you wear and introduce to fights. Absolutely useless equipment to wear on yourself vs in the car.

Clearly someone untrained in law enforcement. If you had been to police academy you would know there are times when you are taken down on the ground and your firearm holster is compromised but you can get to your belt line or another area that you might have a knife mounted. When lethal force is necessary it’s better to have more options than just the firearm.
