Good luck. Consistency is key
@MauiBigBlue5 жыл бұрын
Consistency and continuity seem to be the popular terms in reef keeping instruction these day. While I don't disagree, I am always fascinated by the contrast that is exposed between real reefs in the ocean and our husbandry efforts. I've seen massive amounts of acropora and other stoney corals exposed to direct sun high and dry during extreme tide conditions. Have also seen corals that seem to flourish after some of the harshest storms on the planet and during months of cloud cover. Just wild how in their natural habitat, reef organisms are fairly resilient and durable. Change temperature by 2° f and they melt. 🤔

I know this video is old now. But I want to ask a question that is actually not related to the video. I have been following a blog for some time now and basically this marine biologist has been looking at coral and how it survives. He discovered that the soft corals filter nitrates from the water so he set up 10 new tank with soft coral in as soon solidity was correct and temperature was also correct. The tank was never cycled. This to me sounded bad has I have always been told I must cycle the tank first. But the coral didn't die in fact it thrived. The tanks he setup are all a rowed 3 years old now and have massive amount of soft coral only. He said the reason this works is because the soft corals use up the nitrate before any algae can take hold and the tank produces very little ammonia but enough to maintain a solid base for bacteria. He did put in fish in one tank in week 2 and all is doing well. So do you think this is something we has hobbyists could do. ? Or would you try it. ?

So I bought the PLS50 Elite for my IM 30 long and after a month I can tell you that it is the BEST skimmer I’ve used. I’m glad I decided to try one, makes my Tunze look like a joke.

I just got my first coral for my 5 week old tank(GSP). It opened when I first out it in and then a day later closed. I increased the flow and it then opens up beautifully again only to start closing the next day. Do you think it’s just my tank being very new? Will GSP close up at night and open during the day, or stay open even at night? 🙏 Thanks!

great video, your definitely are on target, way to many of us are adjusting our lighting way to often to correct things. I did the same thing and got 3 AI Hydra 23 to cover my 48" tank to increase spread. I'm not a big fan of the single point of light to achieve total tank coverage.

@corsair3714 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you, but: when we talk about a system with LEDs lightning only, that creates a lot of questions. In the past I had a 75 gallons system with T5s and complemented with led blue. Bars, from there everything was gain. I had a tremendous growth in my sps ( montis , seriatopora, turbinaria, stylopora,acropora) but when you switch to leds only is difficult to adjust, still playing and watching.

🙋 I'm 1 of those constantly changing the lighting intensity and p1ss3d off my corals in doing so. I'm working it back to where it was most happy and growing well. I only adjusted it down as I thought my frogspawn was getting too much light as had slightly bleached but should have put them lower down in the tank and not adjusted the light. 😑 you live and learn. Amazing tank by the way.

Great vid! Doesn’t tank size come into play when deciding what intensity to run the lights? I have a Fusion 20 and a Fluval 13.5. I would think my blues at 100% intensity would be too much for these small tanks. What would you suggest? Thanks!
@P4P54 жыл бұрын
I have recently put LED Everglow lights to replace my T5s. Corals are now half opened and one coral bleached. I have now reduced schedule from 10h to 5h and reduced intensity. Hopefully all will turn out good in the end. I have tested parameters and nothing changed from before i added the LED

Thanks for the video. I have 2 radion xr30 g5 pro for a 100 gallons tank 60 cm deep. The lights are at 2% intensity only and 3% seems already very bright. I wonder how you can be at 75% overall intensity. My lights are 8 inches from the water level (following brs recommendation). It is an LPS tank only. Any advice here would be simply terrific to figure out if I should increase the overall intensity or keep as low as 2%.

can you control the individual intensity of each color? I dont quite understand this graph. on my current that I want to upgrade you can set individual intensity and that is how you set the intensity. At least I think so. Its broken now and using a biocube one, and I cant control but overall intensity. i can either put blues on or off and so on. I am considering these and ai prime. This gets much more color pop right? Obliviously you have tons but I think you have the special lenses as well so hard to tell. My lfs has them and they are mad color pop! Would you know if I can control overall intensity of ai primes or is it like this? also. I notice you said 75 percent and the graph says so but when you click on one part of the grap it says 45 %. Whats up with that? Your tank is my dream tank so I really value your opion!
