Can it live in freshwater at all? I have it on a Molly that was in a saltwater tank, I’ve put her in a freshwater tank and I’m assuming it will die off, correct?

I have 160 gallon cylinder tank with a 20 x 20 x 18 sump. It has a ridiculously small space for the skimmer. The only protein skimmers that fit in the sump were too small for the load by far. Looking forward to trying this one out. Thanks to your video I was able to see that it will not only fit my sump, but I don’t have to worry about the overflow problem when I inevitably forget to turn it off during feeding for maintenance. I was also concerned about it not having adjustments, but I see that’s not necessary. Returning my OCTO skimmer to the store unopened.

Been having problems with the skimmer unfortunately and it's brand new.. yes, I know how they work and how to set them up. Decided just to go back and buy the same brand as my old one which had no problems at all and actually worked more efficiently, which was the IceCap K3 100 HOB Protein Skimmer

I agree with you on the special Grade sand!! It is the only sand going in my tanks! I tried a different variety for my most recent build and it lasted all of three weeks before I siphoned it out and replaced it with special grade. You aquascape is amazing!!!

Thanks for the short recap; If we need to cycle with higher temp and lower salinity how do we transition back towards reef parameters temp and salinity wise before we introduce livestock to the tank?

Generally speaking it’s an easy to keep coral if your parameters are good and consistent

How do you keep that level of fish stocked. Seems a lot to me. I'm novice though.

Just bought this from my lfs. Guy who sold it to me told me not to use the syringe for the salt water sample. As with everything, I do my own research and it led me here. I already have the KH, NO3 and PO4 Hanna checkers. The big thing for me is to not only clean the vial with RO after every test, but I also clean the syringes with RO. I normally fill the vial with sample water and empty it 2/3 times whilst shaking out as much water as possible. I’ve had a few cases where dust/ particles have thrown off the C2 test. I think cleaning is arguably the most annoying part of the Hanna testers. I hate that the vials are so narrow too. You need a fairly steady hand when using the liquid reagents. I think the key to any testing regardless of which test you use, is to perform the test exactly the same and at the same time of the day to the previous test. Ultimately you can be doing the test wrong every time, but if you are consistent in how you perform the test, it will at least allow you to keep things stable which is the real goal here. ICP tests every 3 months to make sure your testers are calibrated.

How do you change water without exposing corals to the air? I am wanting to put some corals up high on my tonga branches that so far been placing vertically but I wont be able to do water changes without air hitting them! You and you alone was my inspiration 4 years ago to get in this hobby!

When I bought my first Kessils probably 8 years ago I was so stunned that since that day I consider kessil as the best light ever. Back then it was bigger, now it is really small. It powers most of my tanks. It brings life with the amazing shimmer and colours. My new build will have kessils because there is nothing better. I was here to see how other lights can play as a potential new light but no shimmer???:) thank you radion I stay with Kessil :)

My daughter and I both went to the same store and purchased the exact same colony, split down the middle at the store 3 heads each of a particular torch, she drip acclimated then dipped then tank, I dipped and then tank, mine opened right up within 30 mins and hers opened up the next day, before you all go on about xyz her tank is identical to mine, skimmers filters, etc, and I supply the saltwater for both when I say exact same even chemistry is almost 100% identical, I’ve always done it that way she has always drip acclimated before dipping. We both ensure temperature is the same as the tank so I guess I’m probably the best example to use in this process as two methods in identical systems one works quicker and I believe less stressful to the corals, my daughter still argues the point. I look at it this way if it was open swaying at the store and 30 mins after introducing it into your tank it’s like it was in the store then isn’t the coral happy? Heck we even use the identical lighting schedule and levels. Look it’s your hobby your money your setup, do what you want, all I’m trying to say is this process works for me 100% of the time.
