As an electrician I gotta say I went through two of the Milwaukee locking bit holder and they didn’t last long. I switched to dewalt and I’m very happy with it. It’s slim and durable.

The dewalt is my favorite. They do or at least used to have a higher failure rate than the standard build locking holder. They might have fixed the problem. The black collar is or was a piece of aluminum bonded to a steel underlayment. That would seperate. Still usable with some difficulty. My favorite of the standard builds is made by bosch and has a blue locking collar.

My favorite bit holder is the Milwaukee Locking bit holder 73 mm. It's sold separate, or in these handy bit sets, like the Shockwave CD Set 32pc for just €16 on Amzn The big advantage of this bit holder is the one-handed operation. Pull the ''ring'' back and the bit clicks lose, and is easily pulled out. The new bit pushes in easily, and is locked securely! Super easy!
@projectpinehillsАй бұрын
Yeah that’s a good point, it is one handed operation. Thanks for posting. 👍

I like this bit holder from DeWalt. It's thin, you can get into hard-to-reach places. But over time, due to impact loads, the black button for releasing the bit falls off, and that's bad. So the Milwaukee bit holder is for every day, and the DeWalt is for tight spaces.
@projectpinehillsАй бұрын
That’s a good point. Yeah I think that’s where the DeWalt can fail. I’ve heard some people who have had no problems and others who have gone through a few. Always good to have a backup. Thanks for posting! 👍

I've been using the Dewalt for over 3 years, personally i think is the best, also, I have no complaints about its quality, I use them constantly and they last for a long time. FYI, it is sold at Lowe's but not at homedepot, and the price is about the same than most bit extension

From my experience the dewalt is my favorite because it’s slimmer and locking at the same time. The milwaukees locking ring ones are ok, definitely better than the cheap ones but my issue with them is the Milwaukee’s tend to almost lock he bit in the ring and you have to get your pliers to pull it back out
@projectpinehillsАй бұрын
Yeah it’s really hard to get the bits out of the Milwaukee locking ring bit holders. Thanks for posting! 👍

Defently one of the better ones. Wiha makes a even slimmer one (slimfix) but lacks the longer lengths. It always leaving us wanting something slimmer. These dewalts have a tendency to fail around the collar from time to time. There available locally and cheapish to replace at least.
@projectpinehillsАй бұрын
I mentioned the Wiha. Bummer they don’t have longer lengths.

Dewalt has the same locking bit holder as the Milwaukee one you showed, dewalt has both types of holders and both are good for different applications and the Milwaukee is just as good as the same one from dewalt

Are these new? As of today here in Hawaii, I was at Home Depot and didn’t see these locking Dewalt ones. My current one (non-locking) is a 6” Makita and some other really large unknown brand to it way too bulky. This Dewalt looks perfect and doesn’t appear to be much thicker than my Makita holder. My favorite locking mechanism is the Wera Rapidaptor family, but they are also a bit bulky. Most of my drivers are Dewalt and I find the built in 1/4” hex collet to be one of the best.

@projectpinehillsАй бұрын
Good question, like the Klein 7-in-1 flip socket?
@bogdanmarkovicАй бұрын
I just think you found a bad use case to justify how one is better than the other while its obviously not advertised to deal with that particular use case. I have those self pulling spade bits from Bosch and in set you get an extension with two grub screws to secure it. I believe Bosch made that extension to have grub screws intentionally. Imagine how much a spade bit in a long bit extension would wobble, especially if extension is in impact driver rather than in drill. Anyways, I don't say Milwaukee is better than DeWalt. Im just sayin the comparison method is wrong. As a side comment, I see some people liking DeWalt cuz its slimmer, I personally like Milwaukee one as its NOT slim and I can grab that unlocking bit with gloves for example.
@projectpinehillsАй бұрын
If drilling a hole, I'd use a drill and not an impact. The impact was just handy for illustration. That was just one observation, the smaller bit holder helps when putting in pocket screws or any screw at an angle. The Milwaukee does lend itself well to one handed operation. They are both great bit holders. Thanks for posting!
@madjackgamingandfitness498Ай бұрын
I feel like it’s an odd comparison when dewalt makes a locking magnet too. I have both mil and dewalt lock hokders and both work just about the same, prefer dewalts, milwaukee is a bit more annoying on the release.
