I was torn between the Neotec 2 and the HJC RPHA 90S, until I read a crash report from SHARP where the chin bar on the Neotec 2 only stayed closed in crashes 70% of the time, while the HJC RPHA 90S stayed closed 100% of the time. It made it a no-brainer for me to go with the HJC RPHA 90S.
@Championhelmets3 жыл бұрын
Safety is a helmet's primary purpose, so the HJC is definitely a top choice, particularly due to its predecessors' SHARP results. As an added bonus, it also performs very well out on the road coming in even quieter than the Neotec 2. Thanks for the comment! What are your thoughts on the HJC helmet's performance?
@Sunesen3 жыл бұрын
@@Championhelmets I am really liking the HJC. Good snug fit. Easy to see out of. Dampens sounds well, and with a good pair of earplugs sound becomes a distant roar. Almost can't hear my motorcycle engine. And I really love the sun visor. My old helmet would make everything look dark. The HJC uses really good materials for the sun visor that blocks the suns sharp glare, but still allows me to see clearly. It costs over twice as much as my old helmet, but I find the comfort, features and the safety to be worth it.

I bought the HJC RPHA 90S Carbon, specifically because of the noise level. But sadly, I find it way louder than my previous Schubert C3 Pro. Maybe it's because of the wind shield of touring bikes vs my naked Triumph Speed Twin. The 90S is way more comfortable for me though in comparison to the odd shape of the C3, so the added need for more ear protection is tolerable. Still interesting to see that both the RPHA 70 & 90 get regular stellar noise reviews, but then once in a while, people do not see the same results for them, like myself.
@Championhelmets3 жыл бұрын
Noise is always a difficult aspect of a helmet since it can be affect by numerous factors including fitment, riding position, bike fairings, and more. This is why we do our best to control as many variables as possible by using the same bike through all our tests. Thanks for the comment! Besides noise and comfort, how have you found the HJC helmet out on the road?

Great review, gives a good picture of what is out there and details to look for. One other parameter I would like to see is how the visor works at speed. I am on my second Neotec, the feature that made this my helmet of choice it that the visor will stay open at speed, I like to ride with the visor up, visor down is claustrophobic for me and ruins the experience, maybe it is the lack of fresh air because riding with the tinted visor down is not a problem. My first modular was a Shuberth C3, the visor came down almost as soon as you started riding, contacted Shuberth and they said it was designed to close at something like 30 kph, could not live with it. @Championhelmets3 жыл бұрын
Some riders have found the C4 can run somewhat small and that it has a slightly more rounded head shape than most other modulars. The best option would be to see if you can break in the helmet any further by wearing it around the house. If the helmet is still too tight, a larger helmet may be required since the interior liners cannot be swapped to other sizes. Thanks for the question!

@Championhelmets3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, we appreciate it! Two alternatives to the Shoei that may be worth looking at would be the AGV Sportmodular and the HJC RPHA 90S Carbon, as some riders have found those to fit more long oval. Got the Shoei Neotec II. I spend a lot of time in the shop walking round with it before buying. All seemed good but pressure points start to build after about 40min of riding. The pain builds up and distracts me from riding properly at some point as it is the only thing you can think of. Eventually the pain turns so unbearable that I have to stop. Last time didn’t make it even to a gas station anymore. I simply MUST stop and get this vice from my head. It sounds so stupid but all the enjoyment of riding is gone. You just want to stop, stop and stop. Get that darn torture device from your head. I’ve done the ‘Shoei custom fit’ twice in two different shops. All measurements match. Got all kinds of pads in it now and whatnot to make it fit. My ears do not align with the ear cutouts in the helmet any longer so earplugs hurt now too. And I can ‘kiss’ the chinbar as its very close now, which is weird. After all adjustments, my usage went up from 40 min to about an hour. Then I have to have a break and ride back. The second stint i cannot go as long. The third stint I only resist about 20min. I refuse to ride any long distances now with my mates. Went on a motorcycle holiday in Spain and it was a pure torture. So just short rides for a coffee these days. Nothing more. Such a shame, cause the helmet is great. Great airflow, silent, stable, easy flipup operation, no fogging up. I really wanted it to work and gave it a fair chance I think by having used it now for about 2 years. But I cannot take it any longer. So a great helmet, just not for my head. I’ll replace it soon with an AVG I think cause that brand always fitted like a glove for me. hi, i get that you are testing helmets on the same bike with same rider but i would question using them on a bike with a screen (even in the low position). screens can create dirty air and can cause more noise than they take away and combined with different helmet shapes may give questionable results? i would have tested them on a bike without a fairing or screen but i get that testing hardware location may be an issue? i assume they were tested on same strip of road travelling in the same direction? i've just ordered the agv which i hope will be ok. at present i have a bmw system 6 which gets heavy on long runs so i hope the agv will suit my needs

By using the same bike, we do our best to ensure that our results are as controlled as possible. As such, we always test our helmets at 130 km/h on long stretches of highway where we take averages throughout. The AGV Sportmodular is among one of the lightest modular helmets that we've come across, so, hopefully, it will do the trick. Thanks for the comment! What are your thoughts on how the helmet performed?

@@Championhelmets hi, thanks for the response. i haven't received the agv yet but i'm hoping it will be as quiet as the bmw system 6 i have at present. the reason for change is 1700g on a long ride is starting to give me neck ache. as i stll want a modular the agv seemed like a good choice. the bonus is i got a new helmet for £280 due to a cosmetic defect. i'll reply back if the fit is good enough to keep and ride with it. i've also moved from an urban London environment where i wore a shoei j cruise most of the time. now i live in the Norfolk countryside near the coast. it's very flat and near the coast there is wind from all directions. i shied away from the schuberth due to price and the look. i had a c3 a while ago and i just didn't get on with the fit.

@@simplysounds @nigel sims Though we haven't had a chance to test out the BMW helmet, we'll keep our fingers crossed. The Schuberth can be a tricky fit for some riders. Though the C3 and C4 are slightly different in interior form, they do tend to run somewhat small and they vary between intermediate oval and round. Thanks for the reply! If you find you have any questions, we're always happy to help

Do a review on a working man's modular helmet. I'm not spending those types of prices in your top 5

We already did that review, it is called the best entry level helmets and wil be live soon on this channel, stay tuned.

The best helmet for 2021, 2022 and so on is still the Schuberth C4 Pro (non-Carbon) 🙌🏻 It's cheaper than the Carbon (which really does NOTHING except raise the price) and also has better Comm System range, which is something that you completely omitted...
@Rex_Payne3 жыл бұрын
Lolwut? I don't care about your fantasies, but in reality Schuberth C4 Pro is a heavy pig that weights almost 1.9 kg, which is ridiculously heavy for a modern expensive high-end helmet. C4 Pro Carbon, on the other hand, is whole 200 grams lighter than it's cheaper fat sibling. And that is significant difference between otherwise similar helmets. Which makes C4 Pro Carbon much better than the C4 Pro.
@mx57013 жыл бұрын
@@Rex_Payne "heavy pig" said the guy who rides around on his Bavarian midlife crisis bike. 🤣 Okay, boomer. Go tell yourself that that markup for a C4 C is worth it 🤡

@@mx5701, OMG that is hilarious! You didn't had the money for a proper helmet - so bought a cheaper heavy version instead. And now you are trying to compensate for this by saying nonsense online. Please proceed: that is amusing =) BTW, I'm barely over 30, poor, and ride an old Japanese bike in a 9-year old Caberg Duke. But, if I had the money for a new helmet, I would definitely NOT buy a Schuberth C4 Pro because I don't want to wear a kettlebell on my head.

Best long oval shape?
@Championhelmets3 жыл бұрын
For a long oval fitment, the most positively mentioned helmet would be the LS2 Strobe, though we have not been able to test it out yet. The X-Lite X-1005 Ultra Carbon has also been mentioned as being more accommodating for LO head shapes, and it does include an adjustable liner as well. Though the best option would be to try these helmets on in a local store (if possible) to make sure that they fit correctly. Thanks for the question! What are your thoughts on the helmets we tested out?

I have a schuberth. Ventilation is terrible. It's the hottest helmet I've owned in my 30 years and half a million miles of riding.
@macvos2 жыл бұрын
Have you opened the inner ventilation holes? They can be covered by the liner for extra isolation during winter. My C3 has very good ventilation compared to my previous two HCJ helmets (by now very old ones, admittedly)
@lonniecross46982 жыл бұрын
@@macvos Yes, didn't really help. The C3 was destroyed in a crash in September. It kept me alive, so it did its #1 job.

@Champion Helmets whats the real weight for hjc rpha 90s carbon in large size? Some websites states its about 1350gm whereas you've stated it to be about 1520gm.

Please do the noise tests on naked bikes. Behind a screen what you measure is THE SCREEN (and how THIS screen works with a certain helmet). Thanks.

@Champion Helmets I don't like to have to be "that guy" but it's been 4 days since last I've heard from you, I feel like I have no choice but to keep following up with you until you deliver the items I ordered and paid for. On Friday, 3/26, I spent $600 at your online store on items that were shown to be in stock, and also paid for 2-4 day expedited shipping on order #2000005901, only to get an e-mail three days later indicating that the items were actually not in stock, and estimating up to two weeks before they are in stock, and not being able to estimate a delivery date. Can you kindly please go through your supplier channels to source the proper helmet and bluetooth system I ordered, and expedite immediate delivery to me ASAP. Thanks in advance. Please contact me by phone directly (off of KZbin) for any further questions.
